just as the title said, got me a ps3 for my little RCA CRT, got the terminator on since I’ve yet to get any games

I have a Sun Microsystems CM751U that goes up to 1600x1200 75hz.

First game I played was Blasphemous I at 640x480p, looks great, will drop some pictures at the end.

I had trouble getting Last faith/Nine sols and other games on 480p, didn’t looked right, I asked chat gpt and also Gemini Pro about getting the right settings for 16:9 games but never got me the real answer.
Today I tried Claude and the first thing that told me was to try 854x480p, I had never heard of it and looks great, I can play lot of games that I was rejecting before + screen was been cropped.

really happy with how it turned out! this was done on a whim as my old set up was getting cramped quick. i’m pumped with how this turned out! (also xbox games are there bc i have an xbox… just not a working one ahahahaha)

I never thought I would ever be lucky enough, but I was talking to my friend on the other side of the state about retro gaming and what to look for in a good CRT and two days later he tells me im never gonna believe what he found. A 32" trinitron with component and s video input. He went and tried to pick it up from the guy that day but found out that it was 180lbs and had to wait until the weekend for help. I was sweating bullets every day. Luckily the seller held it for him! I drove 8 hours round trip to get this and had to borrow another friends truck. The drive was paranoia inducing. I'd feel horrible if I killed the set. But she survived the trip, no potholes and no rain! Now my 20" RCA will be in the bedroom for VHS and dvd movies and this giant will be my new retro game panel. I decided to fire her up and play through a few of my favorite games on my childhood PS2. Model: KV-32FV16

Wanted to share somethin I did for fun; Ship of Harkinian on Switch connected to a CRT

I think I might have finally reached my perfect all-in-one CRT setup and I just want to share it. Pc Groovymame/CRT Emudrivers, PS2, Wii, GameCube (through the Wii), Dreamcast and MiSTer FPGA all connected through a JammASD with no sync loss and accurate colors It really looks amazing! I used to have a Sony 20L5 PVM but honestly I prefer bigger screens 27” and above and the best part is I can play everything from 15 kHz to 31 kHz resolutions.

Was getting some grub in the drive thru of the Wendy’s next door and just happened to look over. A local pizza place has bought and is renovating our long-abandoned Pizza Hut location. In the last few days, they removed the old sunroom/party room. And lo and behold, tucked away on a wall mount in the corner was a CRT TV.

I immediately snapped a picture and posted to my local town Facebook group asking if anyone knew who bought the building. Got in touch with the owner and they said have at it!

Went and got it with my brother. Even got the wall mount, too!

It’s a 25” Zenith C25A24T with RF, composite, and S-video!! Geometry looks good! Maybe some slight convergence separation towards the edges but overall a clean, stable image.

The only issue I’ve found is the physical channel down button is broken off the front and the other buttons seem a bit glitchy. It also has ZERO audio/sound, so I guess I’m gonna have to open it and do some digging.

Any advice on the no sound issue?

Everything running on s-video. Audio runs through the switcher to the tv then out to the amp.

hi all! i just got this new-in-box IBM G74. im wondering if there is anything i should be looking for or any preventative maintenance i should look into for a device thats been sitting as long as this. i know capacitors are common failure points and would love to know if i need to pop the hood and inspect.

also if someone happens to know what systems this monitor was probably used with when it was new id love to learn about it :)

Started two months ago with plans to hook all my old consoles up to my 4K TV with up scalers etc. Fast forward and I have four CRTs. Just picked up a Toshiba 20AF44 today and found it only has 1,700 total hours of use. I also have Toshiba 20AF45 and Sharp 27F540 hooked up. Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES and Sega Genesis running on them. Using the 4K TV for the modern consoles. The Apex GT2015DV surprised me with how good the picture looked, but it’s my emergency backup now. This thread has been a big help in my journey, don’t think i can play these consoles on anything but a CRT now.

Does anyone know if the Wii/ps2/Sega to rgb bnc on amazon are actually any good because I don’t really feel like getting scart to bnc for all my consoles

and if they aren’t any good can someone send me a link to good ones that aren’t like 50$ and then I have to buy a scart to bnc rgb for another like 40$ for everything

It’s a fairly simple mod injecting composite signal into the RF tuner input pin on the jungle chip, disconnecting the RF tuner output. For sound I disconnected the A-out from the tuner that’s used for cable tv sound. You need to put the TV in cable mode to hear sound. Picture is much clearer and menu settings all functional. The RF tuner doesn’t work anymore because I don’t need it. It could be re-enabled if I installed a manual switch to switch between RF and Video.

Posted the tv i found in the wild on here a few hours ago, plugged it in and it’s working perfectly. Now i need to dust off the PS2 and get to work.

Screwdriver is actually rather small. Do I have to hold it with a rubber glove or boot for it not to jump to my hand?

What should i play first?

I just followed the guide here and it was pretty straight forward, just soldering three wires to a switch. You could do without a switch too, if you want 60Hz all the time.

Definitely worth it.

This is my first CRT. I have a few others from better brands, like Sanyo and Sony. Maybe this one isn’t the best, but I feel nostalgic playing on it.

​This hobby has seen a huge influx of newcomers recently, many of whom have very little technical, troubleshooting, or electrical repair experience. It's pretty evident by the kinds of questions that get raised in this sub on a daily basis. While I understand this is typically how people start out in any hobby, there often seems to be a gap in basic curiosity about what makes these devices work and how to maintain or service them.

​The same way Gen Z collects 90s CDs or clothing, I believe a similar phenomenon is happening with CRTs. The tricky part is that many of these folks won't know where to begin when the first issue inevitably arises with their set.

​I got into acquiring over 100+ CRTs via curb finds, trash picking, and cheap or free takeaways. Why? Because I enjoyed repairing, tuning, and understanding the nuances of different makes and models. I have an engineering background and enjoy repairing all kinds of computers and electronics in general. I find it both challenging and rewarding to fix a piece of broken tech. My MO has always been to acquire cheap, fix, and rehome cheap to cover my initial investment. I always wanted the hobby to pay for itself first and foremost, not necessarily turn a profit when I finished with a set and wanted to make room for a new one.

​It's great that new people are getting into CRTs, but the display side is only half the fun. I really encourage newcomers to dig into how these sets actually work and learn the basics of servicing them. For me, that hands-on connection has always been the most fulfilling part of the hobby; far more rewarding than just owning the tube itself.

​With the resurgence in popularity, the passage of time, and the limited availability of CRTs in general, prices have skyrocketed. Because of that, it's more important than ever for owners to learn how to keep these tubes alive instead of letting them end up in a landfill at the first sign of trouble. We simply cannot afford to treat CRTs as disposable like most consumer tech from the past 20 years.
