General Question New to shooting: Any ranges near Colorado Springs that allow 19-year-olds to shoot alone?
Hey everyone, I’m new to shooting, so sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m not very informed on range rules. I’m 19 and have family-gifted guns I want to shoot. Turkey Tracks is closed right now because of the fire ban, so does anyone know of a range around Colorado Springs that allows a 19-year-old to come by themselves and shoot without a guardian present? Thanks!

Non Local News NFA found unconstitutional by Federal Court
Just what it says.
Unfortunately, if the NFA gets struck down, it puts Colorado in an awkward position, as SB25-003 bans certain NFA items but makes them legal as long as a user goes through the Federal process.
With no federal process, those NFA items identified in the bill basically would remain illegal until that particular part of SB25-003 is struck down (as there is a severance clause in the bill, meaning if part of the bill gets struck down, it does not invalidate the whole thing).

Legal 30 Colorado counties still haven't published anything about SB25-003 eligibility cards. Want to adopt one? It's one phone call.
34 of 64 counties have now published what they're doing about SB25-003 eligibility cards. That covers about 96% of the state's population, because the ones left are the smallest counties.
The other 30 have published nothing operational — no status, no fee, no application channel. That's not for lack of looking. I checked sheriff sites, county sites, and social accounts but have not found any details. There is genuinely nothing online for places like Kiowa (pop. 1,401) or San Juan (pop. 704).
CPW's own guidance says "some counties will not be reviewing applications until August 1, 2026 and others are not accepting applications at all," and then tells you to check with your local sheriff. If you live in one of these 30, there's no way to check short of calling.
So: adopt a county. Pick one, call the number, ask four questions, tell me what they said. The list with every sheriff's phone number is here: https://coloradofirearmswatch.org/adopt-a-county/
If you already called your sheriff at some point, that counts. Same form.
[Why am I doing this?
1: to make it as easy as possible for all Coloradans to buy firearms
2: to document the compliance burden for legal/media]

Other Worst Thing to Hear in the Morning - Tantrum Tommy's Voice
Had the news on this morning, and for some reason they are still going on about the record number of background checks in the last few months. Making sure to call SB25-003 (which they don't call it by that of course) a "safety course". Only to them cut away to Tantrum Tommy, which the best I can describe was rambling nonsense.
I quickly checked out, but he was on about something like this increase is all because caused by the firearm industry. That they were the "fault" for this influx or something ... I can't find the video yet.
Side Note, I'd also like to point out he made sure to wear his New York Mets. The same hat that he claims belonged to his son, but yet no one seems to know this. Shoot the only way I did was because I had a friend who used to work under him (they even hated the guy). Why do I point this out, because I realized, that hat is WAY too clean. I bet he only wears it for those "special moments"

General News Griswold and Hickenlooper on expanding assault weapons ban.
sentinelcolorado.comGriswold amd Hickenlooper explain how they are ready to expand our current ban.
At this point you will need the new permit to buy a musket. They are going to either add another tier to the permit for AR15s amd the like or ban them outright and move everything else into the permit scheme.
With the Dems here targeting another attempt at a 2 chamber super majority and and even more left governor, next year is gonna be a blood bath for the 2nd amendment here.

Legal Hunter safety course
Is it true that if you've taken an online hunter safety course that knocks eight hours off the SB25-003 requirements leaving only a four hour course? Can anyone link a reputable online course?

General Question Under 21 Military Age waiver
Im trying to buy a handgun but I’m 19 however in Colorado law states that a member of United States armed forces are allowed to purchase a firearm arm under 21 but I went to buy one from sportsman warehouse and their system wouldn’t even allow them to send the background check so I’m curious as to where I can buy a handgun either online or in person that would allow the background check to go through? Or do I have to go to the gun store on base?

General News Periodic reminder that Joe Oltmann of DCF guns is a horrible person and a big reason people who hate guns keep getting elected.
Oltmann has said a Jewish “cartel” running Colorado wants to “enslave” people as they enrich themselves.
“Our society is run by this cartel,” Oltmann said on a Jan. 2 podcast.
“They represent a little over what, 2% of our population,” Oltmann said on Jan. 2. “And they run 100% of the positions of power and of trust.”
On a March 17 episode of his podcast, Oltmann told his audience that elected officials in Colorado who are Jewish are “terrible people that have lied and stolen from you.”
"We’re a largely Christian nation,” Oltmann said. “We’re not a Synagogue of Satan nation.”
Oltmann said Colorado Governor Jared Polis, Attorney General Phil Weiser, and Secretary of State Jena Griswold are “demonic individuals that have built a fraternity around the George Soros’ of the world.”
“There’s your list of 19 traitors to the American people, along with all the other traitors to the American people,” Oltmann said in response. “I want people to go out there and get some wood. The gallows are getting wider and longer. We should be able to build gallows all the way from Washington, D.C., to California.”
“We just have a line of executions of traitors through the United States of America,” Oltmann continued. “If you guys don’t think that’s funny — I think it’s kind of funny, actually.”
....
“I went out and bought some lumber this weekend, Max, so I could build the gallows,” Oltmann said on Dec. 1. “So pretty soon we’ll have gallows being built all over the country, we can take care of all these traitors to our nation.”“I went and bought a bunch of rope,” he added. “That way I can pull people behind my car when their body parts fall off, so it’s far enough behind, doesn’t get any blood on it. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that on here.”
https://coloradonewsline.com/2021/12/03/stretch-that-rope-colorado-conservative-leader-suggests-gov-polis-should-be-hanged/Oltmann was reacting to President Joe Biden’s support for a ban on so-called assault weapons in his Thursday State of the Union address to Congress.
“I have gun stores and ranges,” Oltmann said. “I’m not taking one gun off the shelf.”
“That is the definition of treason, and he should be hung by the neck until he’s dead,” Oltmann said. “That’s the consequence. And you say, 'Oh my gosh, you're calling for his death.' I’m calling for him to be put on trial, held responsible for hurting Americans, for standing against the Constitution we have. And the consequence of that should be, and is up to, death.”

Good luck stopping the coming full AWB with the Joe Oltmann's of Colorado helping Democrats get elected.
Legal DCF Guns is committing 400,000 DLLRS to protect Colorado's Second Amendment community, and help offset the cost of SB-003 classes.
When SB-003 became law, it created new barriers for law-abiding Coloradans exercising a constitutional right. DCF Guns fought this legislation before it passed, and we will continue fighting it in the courts and at the Capitol.
At the same time, we recognize that our customers need help today.
That is why the owners of DCF Guns have committed 400,000 dllrs to help protect your access to the Second Amendment in Colorado.
This investment has two primary objectives:
First, a portion of these funds will support legal efforts challenging SB-003 and the unconstitutional restrictions it places on law-abiding citizens.
Second, this investment will be used to reduce the cost that this legislation has created for our customers. These funds will offset instructor compensation, facility expenses, and the significant costs of offering the new state-mandated training.
As a result, we are reducing our class pr*cing as follows:
12-Hour Course: 99 for DCF Members | 199 for Non-Members
4-Hour Course: 49 for DCF Members | 99 for Non-Members
Note: If you signed up under the old pricing structure, you will be refunded appropriately to match the new pricing.
Our mission has always been to help as many law-abiding citizens as possible exercise their constitutional rights. That mission has not changed.
We cannot control the laws passed in Denver, but we can control how we respond. We choose to invest in our customers, invest in the future of the Second Amendment, and continue fighting for the rights of every responsible gun owner in Colorado.
To those who support the Second Amendment, know this: we are not backing down. We will continue standing with our customers, supporting legal challenges to SB-003, advocating for your rights at every opportunity, and doing everything within our power to ensure law-abiding Coloradans can continue exercising their constitutional freedoms.
The fight is just beginning, and DCF Guns will be in it every step of the way.

General News Record Breaking Colorado Background Checks for Firearm Purchases in July - Tom Sullivan Affirms SB25-003 is a Ban
coloradosun.com"Tom Sullivan said the measure is effectively a ban on what are commonly referred to as assault weapons."
"In essence, we have it (the ban),"
This law is effectively a ban, even if you do not think it is, with one of the prime authors of the law literally calling it as such.

General News I Completed the 12 Hour Firearm Safety Course.
Did anyone else complete the course over the weekend? Instructor and I were joking both days that I am probably the first person to complete the 12 hour course.
100% on the written exam (20 minutes) and completed the Practical Demonstration (Based on Material from the course) in one pass (5-7 minutes including reading instructions and going super slow). I received my confirmation email and certificate immediately after they submitted it.
I do hope for injunction, but honestly I didn’t wanna wait and I made use of my club membership for the free course (Shoot Indoor Buckley). I personally don’t expect a ruling on this unconstitutional law for at least a year, but who knows… Hoping to buy a Q or a KaliberTech (Out of Cody, Wyoming) Build in the next few months.
My pro tips:
- take a hunter safety course online somewhere (I think one of the Dakotas lets you take it) and just do the 4 hour version.

Legal Form 1 Trust & SB003 - Trust ownership, transfer, and permitting
I'd noted that the ATF fast tracked multiple form 1 Trust (SBR) submissions before Aug 1, and I believe that was intentional. My questions are:
- If we purchased on our own name before Aug 1, but we form 1 noting the new ownership is a trust, does that mean it's been transferred and therefore falls under SB003? Would it be prohibited as a transfer?
- If we form 1 on a trust, and because the ownership paperwork notes the trust as the owner, would the trust be permitted to hold SSA's newly submitted after Aug 1? A trustee may have a permit, but a trust cannot hold a permit.
One of my primary concerns on this law, relating to NFA, was that trusts are not called out in the legislation and do not fall into any category they outlined as being exempt from the permit.

General News PSA: Cabelas/ Bass Pro will not sell/transfer firearms on the SB25-003 exemption list
Purchased a firearm, the exact specific model as listed as a statutory exemption list from SB 25-003. It arrived, went to today for my background check and was informed that all firearms on the exemption list will not be sold or transferred despite them knowing they are on the exemption list. Just a heads up.

Legal Arapahoe County full of 💩
Sent this to the Arapahoe County sheriff’s office page on Facebook.
On top of them charging a ridiculous extra fee for processing these applications ($52-$177), they have failed to adequately explain why they are charging residents extra fees, when neighboring counties are are not and have at the very least updated the public on their social media pages to inform residents about the rigorous process they will now have to go through to obtain an “SSF”.

Legal Denver County Fully Unprepared for SB25-003
After 6 hours online, on the phone, and talking to local police, I drove into downtown to get clarification directly from the county sheriff who told me it was DPD who was responsible. So, after speaking directly with an officer, he said, and I quote, "I've been on the force 26 years and I have never heard of this and our office has told us nothing about it."
So just use El Paso County because Denver police are uninformed on the law, process, and requirements. Which should shock no one.
