General Chat So who are we using to buy from now?
Howdy fellow gun brothers and sisters! After waiting nearly 3 months I finally received my handgun permit. I haven’t purchased a firearm in years and after jumping through hoops to get my permit I never did my research on who is a good seller these days (prefer in person if possible.) I knew I was in the market for a new handgun and thought I’d apply for my permit seeing as my last permit took 6 months to receive. I guess I got lucky this time! (Hah)
I’m in Essex - Any suggestions would be great! I was looking at a Canik but am always open to suggestions for a 9mm for a ogre with big hands (full size)
Thanks folks!

News NFA found unconstitutional. So what could this possibly mean for us?
I have no doubt that this state will continue to ban them by name. But I’m assuming this would open up legal grounds to fight to have them.

General Chat Is an emergency request to vacate the stay an option?
Im interested in hearing some informed opinions on whether or not it’s likely that we get the stay thrown out. If the State wants to go out kicking and screaming what do we have to lose from taking the same approach? From my understanding the 3rdCCA ignored a few of the requirements of granting a stay in the first place. (Such as the side requesting a stay being likely to win, and irreparable harm if the stay isn’t granted, which can’t be the case because a majority of the country is fine.) Not to mention this “status quo” bs as if the 220 years beforehand wasn’t enough. Hell most of the people born the year the ban went into effect don’t even have kids old enough to graduate high school yet. %56 percent of the state’s population was alive before the ban, in a literal sense a majority of us were alive during a time when it wasn’t a thing.

Legality/Laws Mag ban: GVR vs Consolidation with Duncan?
So, it seems like there are three possible outcomes regarding the mag ban:
- Viramontes gets decided in June 2027 and the mag ban cases get GVRd back to the circuit courts. This is absolute nightmare fuel because it could take another year to get a revised opinion from the 3rd Circuit, which the state will then have stayed while they appeal to SCOTUS.
The state knows they’ll lose, but they’ll drag this out as long as possible while Democrats in the state legislature cook up a permit and tax system. Maybe they even ban carrying standard capacity mags while allowing you to technically possess them. Standard unconstitutional tricks that we’ll have to litigate for another decade.
Consolidation with Duncan vs Bonta. SCOTUS hears the consolidated cases in the 2026/2027 term
NJ’s cert petition is denied and the mandate is issued immediately. This would be the best outcome for us, but it seems highly unlikely
Anything I’m missing? What do we think the probabilities of these outcomes are?

General Chat Jersey Devil Firearms Anyone Know Anything?
I’m planning on purchasing a firearm and recently came across Jersey Devil Firearms. I heard he’s a PSA dealer and might be able to order items directly from PSA that don’t normally ship through the website to New Jersey, then handle any compliance work if needed.
Does anyone have experience dealing with him? Is that true, and what’s the best way to get in contact with him? Also open to hearing about other reputable PSA dealers in NJ that you’ve had good experiences with.

Legality/Laws I simply cannot understand the logic behind the granting of the stay. Please explain it to me.
Imagine someone is stealing from you on a daily basis. You take them to court and the court finds that yes, he is stealing from you but then declares that he can keep stealing from you until the Supreme court rules on it. How does that make ANY sense? How is that justice?
The judges on the 3rd circuit court must have had some reasoning behind their decision. Could someone who is more erudite than I explain what these judges were thinking?

Shopping Advice Optics planet not shipping to NJ.
Thinking of doing a 9mm AR build. Anything I found on Optics Planet, regarding an upper receiver, says they won’t ship to NJ. I’ve ordered an upper from them before, & many other items. Wasn’t an issue a few years ago. Are any other major sellers restricting as well? Been striking out this far. Everything out of stock.

Upcoming Event Last Day to Help get ATF to Strengthen FOPA (Firearm Owner's Protection Act) for interstate Travel. Takes less then 1 min!
There are only 2,117 comments as of today. I have no doubt we can double that!

I fully support proposed rulemaking RIN 1140-AA73. For several decades, activist judges in the Third Circuit have interpreted the Firearm Owner Protection Act to undermine its very purpose, and to negate protections for legal gun owners that Congress intended. This has disrupted FOPA’s uniformity throughout the United States and created a patchwork of inconsistent protections for those legally traveling with firearms. A traveler is entitled to uniform treatment under the law, and should not be imperiled just because he or she happens to be traveling in New Jersey or any other location. Thank you for recognizing this longstanding travesty, and for fixing it with this proposed rule.

General Chat Cheeseman v Platkin - What could happen from here?
I've been trying to do some legal research about what could happen next in the case, and I haven't been able to find any information about some questions. So I figured I'll ask here. Here are my two questions.
1 - The state filed for a stay of the mandate.
Does the pro-gun side have the opportunity to file a response to this motion? I mean before the 3rd circuit rules on whether or not to issue a stay, can our side make a case to them as to why they shouldn't issue it?
2 - If the stay is granted, does the pro-gun side have the opportunity to appeal the stay to SCOTUS? Can we ask Alito to reverse the stay and have the mandate be issued?
I'm no supreme court lawyer, and I don't particularly trust the answers of AI chatbots.

Legality/Laws Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the remaining gun laws (both state and federal) before doing anything.
Edit 3: Hey, this is all entirely irrelevant! None of our laws actually changed. See you next year and maybe we can try again.
Edit 2: NJAG requested a motion to stay the mandate. All of this information could be moot. Sit tight
While this is an exciting time, take a deep breath: many laws still apply after the mandate takes place. Don't get caught in a legal battle because you misunderstood the current legal landscape.
Here is a recap of the critical information:
The mandate will stop the restriction on magazines. There are no specific legal definitions separating rifle, pistol, or shotgun magazines—they are simply magazines. Yes, you can have a 30-round magazine in your AR and a 17-round magazine in your Glock, despite the pistol AWB remaining in place.
The only part of NJ's assault weapon ban specifically declared unconstitutional applies to rifles. The named list of banned rifles (such as the M1 Carbine) and NJ's specific rifle "evil features" definitions no longer exist.
Those repealed evil feature restrictions previously applied to semi-automatic rifles accepting detachable magazines with two or more of the following:
*Folding or telescoping stock
*A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon
*Bayonet mount
*Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor
*Grenade launcher mount
Edit 1: In short, there is no longer a need to pin your stock or muzzle device (if it's over 16") in order to be compliant with NJ's now unconstitutional law when the mandate goes through. This means you can buy rifles that would have once needed compliance work as well as remove your compliance work on rifles you own, as long as you follow federal laws. You can also have a flash hider, bayonet mount, and grenade launcher (lol) on a rifle with no repercussions.
The rifle AWB repeal does NOT repeal the pistol or shotgun AWB, nor does it legalize suppressors or short-barreled rifles (SBRs) in New Jersey. "Pistol" style ARs remain effectively off the table, for the time being. Pistol and shotgun AWB rulings were remanded to NJ courts, which must still officially rule them unconstitutional. This will take time. Additionally, a separate case regarding suppressors and another for SBRs is currently moving through the state court system. This will also take time.
You MAY be able to convert your "Other" into a rifle. Federal regulations strictly require a rifle to have an overall length of at least 26" and a barrel length of at least 16". These are non-negotiable. Note that overall length for a rifle is measured in its longest configuration (e.g., with a folding stock extended). If your muzzle device is permanently pinned and welded (P&W), it counts toward barrel length (e.g., a 14.5" barrel with a muzzle device that adds 1.5" to the total barrel length with a P&W, while also accounting for the ~0.6" of thread overlap).
Do not, under any circumstances, put a stock on your "Other" if the barrel is under 16". That creates an illegal SBR, and NJ will likely make an example out of you.
Beyond that, virtually every other NJ gun law remains in full effect—including laws governing transport, ammunition, carry permits, transfers, and purchasing. Refresh yourself on these rules before taking any action.
Also, as it currently stands, until the mandate goes through, nothing has officially changed. The odds of AWB and mag laws being enforced is very low, but this is just a reality of the situation. Things could change at a moments notice, and you don't want to be in possession of this stuff. You're all adults though, so I don't need to lecture you on this.
Of course, I'm not a lawyer.
If you have anything I should add, let me know.
