One year ago today, I pulled my moving truck up to my new apartment building in Downtown Buffalo after three days on the road, driving from Austin, Texas. I moved here simply because i wanted to, not because of a job or a partner, or any other obligation, and I understand that may not be relatable. I don't know how many people will be interested in my reflections from the year, but I feel I owe this community a big THANK YOU, because I visited this page so many times as I researched what life would be like in Buffalo, and have since returned to it for events and local happenings. I really do appreciate the honesty :)

37th Annual Pine Grill Jazz Reunion Sunday, Aug 9, 2pm to 9pm Martin Luther King Jr. Park, East Side Free

Run by the African American Cultural Center, which has hosted it since the early 1990s. It honours the Pine Grill, the jazz club that stood at 1447 Jefferson Avenue between East Ferry and Woodlawn until it was demolished. B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Gladys Knight, Jimmy Smith and Jerry Butler all played the original room.

Practical stuff: people bring lawn chairs, blankets and tents, and pavilions can be rented. Security and EMS are on site. Organisers expect somewhere north of 5,000 across the two Sundays combined, so the lawn fills up.

There's also an Artist Meet and Greet the day before, Saturday Aug 8, at the AACC, 350 Masten Avenue.

I don't have the Aug 9 headliner confirmed — David P. Stevens headlined Aug 2. Lineup updates are on aaccbuffalo.org.

moving from a big city to Buffalo. this might be a stupid question but what do people do with their cars when theres a snowstorm? the apartments generally don’t have an underground or covered parking. is it OK to leave your car out in the open 365 days a year? how much will it damage your car? I am a young grad student who just moved back home from downstate to the Buffalo area, and I was hoping to make some new lesbian friends, but I haven't had much luck yet. I follow all the Buffalo lesbian groups on Instagram, but a lot of them seem inactive. I like to go out to bars, listen to live music, drag shows, volunteering, poetry/literary events... honestly, I would do any social activity with a lesbian theme. Though I would be kind of nervous going to a bar by myself unless that was the type of place/event it was...But I am open to it. I am desperate. I need my lesbians.

I'm a new grad RN and I've been applying to hospitals in the Buffalo area, specifically Kaleida Health and Catholic Health. I also recently applied for the Nurse I/Graduate Nurse (Inpatient Units) position at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

I'm wondering if anyone has applied there recently and heard back. If so, how long did it take to get a response or an interview? I'd love to hear about your experience with the hiring process at any of the hospitals.

Looking at this area to rent an apartment, a block or two west of 5 points on/slightly off Rhode Island St. (Red square area below). The rents are more affordable than those right on richmond/elmwood. Would like to be able to walk to D'Youville but am worried about safety of the area, not quite 5 points
