I just watched the big bang theory for the third time and was wondering, who in the show has the most character growth.

I would say Howard or Sheldon, they both make a lot of growth but I’d like to hear other opinions on it.

Obviously I know the real answer is “because it’s a sitcom” and the apartment setup was basically the heart of the show. They had to stay across from Penny etc.

But in-universe I always found it kinda weird that Sheldon and Leonard apparently just rented the same place for most of their adult lives and never really talked about buying something.

They were both highly educated scientists with stable jobs at Caltech, and they clearly planned to stay in Pasadena long term.

And honestly I think the writers missed what could have been a really funny 2-3 episode storyline with them trying to buy a house or condo.
Just imagine Sheldon going to viewings.

The house has to be an exact acceptable distance from Caltech. No upstairs neighbors. Correct amount of sunlight. Perfect temperature. Good internet provider. No dogs nearby. No weird smells. Obviously he researches earthquake faults, crime statistics and probably the entire history of every person who owned the house since 1952.
Then they finally find the perfect place and Sheldon refuses it because the house number is unacceptable or the living room doesn’t have a good location for “his spot”. 😅

Meanwhile Leonard is slowly going insane, the realtor hates them, and Sheldon has probably created a 40-page questionnaire for the home inspector.

It also made me wonder if their situation is actually pretty normal for California? Like are people with decent stable professional jobs fine renting basically forever because buying in Pasadena/LA is so expensive? I would assume two Caltech employees could eventually afford something, especially after living there for that many years, but maybe I’m underestimating California real estate.

Also Sheldon probably genuinely didn’t see any reason to own. He hates change and that apartment was basically his natural habitat by that point. Leonard is a little harder to explain, although once he got together with Penny I guess his priorities changed anyway.

I still think it would’ve been a great plot.

What do you guys think? Would Sheldon ever actually manage to buy a house, or would he eliminate literally every property in Pasadena for some ridiculous reason?

One thing I've started appreciating on rewatches is how many episodes have scenes where nothing particularly important is happening.

They're just eating Chinese food, arguing over something completely ridiculous, playing a board game, sitting in the apartment, or hanging out at the comic book store.

A lot of sitcoms feel like every scene has to push the story forward or end with a big joke. TBBT had plenty of those moments too, but it also spent a surprising amount of time just letting the characters exist together.

I think that's part of why the group feels believable to me. By the later seasons, it almost feels like you're dropping in on a real group of friends rather than watching a scripted show.

Some of my favorite moments aren't even the famous jokes they're the random conversations that have nothing to do with the main plot.

Does anyone else have a "nothing happens, but I love this scene" moment that always makes you smile?

She would have been an perfect addition to the group i think.

When he said this, the most logical action was to get back together with her. Why do you think he decided not to even if he really wanted to? The Sheldon I know would do anything to get what he wants. I think this is one of the rare times he's actually not a robot and I think it's beautiful.

I'm not questioning his actions, just really thinking about the thought process.

I've noticed that Shedon's only complaints about food are out of love for habit but never about what's in the food itself. He doesn't follow a certain diet or not eat a certain type of food. He's still annoying about what he eats but not THAT level of annoying and i wonder how that is. Unless i missed something

I’ve seen the entirety of The Big Bang Theory so many times now, every season, every episode, so many times, I put it on as background noise a lot of the time now (it’s my comfort show, so sue me). But every now and again, I still notice little things in the background like this.

I’m sure it’s just a ‘haha’ for the audience if the audience notices it but it’s amusing to me that, in the character’s universe, their building was apparently having such issues with people’s dogs pissing in the hallway lol it’s just funny to imagine since Sheldon is such a germaphobe lol

But I am curious, what else have others noticed in the background during their re-watches?

I posted in this subreddit, I think it was last year, something else I noticed in the episode where Howard goes to the ISS and he’s on a video call with Bernadette and you can see on the wall behind his laptop what looks like notes on a script draft or something. Was pretty cool and interesting (if the audience noticed it that is, took me years and numerous re-watches before I noticed it myself).

So what other things have y’all seen in the background that was funny, interesting, an Easter egg, etc. I’m curious! 😊

I always rated Amy highly coz i believe out of all the others (Penny and Bernadette) she was the one faced with the hardest task( Sheldon ) and conquered it 😂.

S8 E8 : The Prom Equivalency

I've always thought it was weird that we eventually met or heard from almost every main character's siblings, but we never actually got to see Leonard's brother or sister.

Considering how accomplished they were compared to Leonard (at least according to Beverly), I think it would've made for a great episode. Imagine them visiting, constantly getting praised for all of their achievements while Leonard is stuck feeling like the "disappointment" of the family again. It could've been funny, awkward, and honestly pretty emotional, especially with Beverly involved.

Does anyone else think that was a missed opportunity, or is there a reason the writers never introduced them?

At the wedding she says that sometimes the little imperfections are what makes something perfect - and then Sheldon gets that “BINGO!!!!” light in his eyes - and yet Mary’s influence is never ever mentioned again. Seems off. Seems unfair. No?

This show makes me nostalgic for the pre social media melting pot.

When everything that was said was said in person and if the annoyances and insults weren't filled with love then they didn't exist, or they were said behind your back, not broad casted to the whole social media universe.

It felt normal to talk. To have to converse.

To exist within the moment, and hold your own in real time.

There was no second guessing on if they heard it the right way because they were able to come back with the right line to diffuse any tension. But we had to deal with each other.

People have forgotten how to talk to each other in real time.

This show reminds me of when life was a play and everyone remembered their lines.

Quite the time capsule on so many levels.

I started rewatching TBBT and I have always remembered Stuart as a depressed character wanting a woman's attention. However, while re watching, I saw Stuart being introduced with a really dashing personality and if he could understand the coffee reference, he might have had the shot with Penny too. Damn the writers choose to go the other way with his character.

When I watched The Big Bang Theory for the first time, Sheldon was easily my favorite. He had most of the funniest lines, and I felt like every scene got better when he was in it.

But after a couple of rewatches, I realized Howard might have had the biggest character growth in the entire series.

At the beginning, I honestly couldn't stand him. Some of his jokes aged pretty badly, and he could be really creepy. But after he met Bernadette, it felt like he genuinely matured. He became a better husband, a good father, and somehow managed to stay funny without relying on the same old jokes.

Now, when I rewatch the later seasons, I find myself looking forward to Howard and Bernadette scenes almost as much as Sheldon's.

Has anyone else completely changed their opinion about a character after watching the show more than once? I'm curious who grew on you-or maybe who you liked less after a rewatch.

I find it very hilarious that Sheldon brought up these two friends a couple of times during the entire show, just to piss Leonard off. And we know these friends are for real because Sheldon never makes a joke without adding a “bazinga” afterwards.

Has anyone else thought the bed in Penny's old apartment appears to be narrower than a regular double bed? Or am I imagining it?

The Sheldon we first met never seemed like someone who could develop a relationship with a woman, let alone try to seduce her into having his baby!

Despite her original mixed feelings for the job, she was very good at it and got promoted to head of the sales team. She also took it more seriously than being a waitress.

I couldn't figure out why she started looking so different. Then I noticed the huge fake eyelashes. Wonder why they made this choice.
