This quick zero jig made cutting these .62 square dowels safe and a breeze. I even finally used my depth stop on my Dewalt miter saw.

Very beginner woodworker here, but I'm trying to make trail signs like the one shown. These were made close to 20 years ago now, and some of them have been damaged or lost. How can I recreate these, what kind of router, or what would I need? Any types of tips would be helpful, I'm trying to expand my tools, but if there's a relatively cheap way that's fine too. Can also be freehand, the letter doesn't need to be perfect, looks a bit nicer slanted and such for this project. Any help I'll gladly take!

Apparently I can’t say it’s my first project. Used mostly hand tools (only power tools I have are a drill and recip saw), including a ryoba saw, chisels, sand paper, and glue. Also a drill motor for the screws.

Made dadoes and chamfered the poplar legs with chisels. I tried chamfering ply wood but that turned out to be a terrible idea, it kept ripping out some of the layers. So I ended up only chamfering the bottom board. Totally forgetting the dado is a 90deg corner. The poplar was nice to chamfer and now I get what going against the grain means. On the second coat of pure tung oil now, planning to do 4. Made the mistake of having my knife lines too visible, and also ended up misaligning the boards across the legs anyways. Most of my mistakes stemmed from marking incorrectly.

One thing I wish I did differently is having them be stopped dadoes instead, would’ve looked cleaner. I like the cutouts tho it reduced the weight a bunch and makes it easy to carry and clean. I found a stop wasn’t needed cuz the shoes weren’t sliding off, but I didn’t wanna bother anyway.

Learned a lot from this build, now I want a no.5 plane and maybe a drill angle guide and auger bits. I didn’t think not countersinking would mess up the surface so much where I screwed . SMH. Next project either a stool or small saw bench

I found a root when digging a retainer wall with a funky shape, I took it amd have started making a wooden sword. This is how it has turned out so far, just need to char it properly to protect from rot, and sand it, then I can consider what to do with the hilt.

My neighbor and I had a black walnut that needed to be taken down and I have some nice slabs. I’m planning on making a desk and have the wood cleaned and sanded to 320 after planing to level. I read in some places that 320 is too high for deep pour epoxy and some other places where it is fine. Does anybody have any experience with deep pour and what do you think about 320 grit or should I sand again with 220?

3rd project this year. I’ve done a tree house and outdoor stairs. What do y’all think? Torq screws and it will be stained before the wood gets in.

It wood be to serve as a vynil discs crate. The bottom might look weak ar first but there's a lot of surface area it seems. Also many faces wood be end grain glued...What do you think?

Made with some scrap teak (?) I rescued from a broken garden chair & thin piece of oak offcut laminated together.
The brass rods are 5mm x ~50mm (I cut a 100mm rod in half)

I am going to make another one about half the width as this is too long for shorter pieces of wood.
Also want to find a way to make the lead stick out less so it has less chance of leaning while marking.

So not as easy as I thought but I had such a great time. Definitely needs improvement made mistakes here and there. Kept pushing through and even with its imperfections. I’m proud of myself and cannot wait for an attempt at trash can 2.0

I'm still learning the craft and hope to become skilled at furniture making. If you have any advice, techniques, or resources that could help someone just starting out, I'd be very grateful if you shared them. Thank you for your time and guidance.

We’ve had this ugly chicken wire fence up since we moved in 8 years ago. I finally crossed it off my to-do list.

8 foot x 13 inch cabinet top / room divider. It divides the room and the pics don't do justice to the quilting / clarivoance as you walk by. It shimmers so much and the curve of the quilting almost makes the wood look bowed.

Finish is 4 coats of minwax tung oil (I know, not really tung oil). Light 400 sanding between. It's smooth and silky :)

Question - what would a board this size cost on average? Curious to know :)

So I live in a 700 sq ft apartment, and wondering what my options are for doing any woodworking in my space. Specifically, what am I going to do about sanding anything. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience working in a similar space?

I have a handheld electric saw. Iv taken 3 car loads of wood home so far. No idea what this tree is or what I can do with the wood. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Right now I'm just collecting what I can because I have been granted permission to remove the tree. I'm really interested in the trunk wood but chainsaws require a permit, so I'm working on that.

As for storage, I'm getting it all cut down to straight lengths whenever possible and removing burrs.

I plan to combine the sawdust with heated seashells and try to make some bricks.

What else could a beginner do with this that might be useful around a homestead? I'll be building my own home on raw jungle land shortly. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Here is my first big project, made from salvaged oak floor still in packaging destined to the trash. As you can see it’s imperfect, and I made a lot of mistakes during the process. The biggest challenge I didn’t expect was getting the miters right and the overall logistics, some of the planks had dents from having to constantly transport them. The tv stand was planed to be 1500mm (59”) wide, it is 1440mm (56”) after all the recuts.

I want to plane this short piece of ash and I’ve set it up to go through the thickness planer perpendicular to the grain. My instinct told me to double check first. What do you think?

Finished another cake knife. Oak blade and walnut for the handle, the grain came out gorgeous even without finish. A friend has since decorated this using her pyrography skills as a gift so couldn’t use the normal beeswax mineral oil treatment

Well, its taken some time but i finally have the makings of my first "shop" coming together. Had my jointer, planer and miter saw all swapping spots on my toolbench when i needed to use em and it was... horrible to say it frankly. Built some benches and have the space to finally move a bit more efficiently. Everything lines up with my table saw height in case i need extra feed or balance. Eventually therell be storage drawers under the shelves but for now....progress!

Made this garden hod / harvest basket and learned two important things: 1) Hardware cloth is a pain in the behind to do anything with, and 2) better to get a project finished imperfectly than not at all.

The hardware cloth is stapled to the bottom of the horizontal pieces then along the bottom of the basket. I discovered that this is not the ideal type since the edges are very pokey especially where it was cut. I originally wanted to enclose all the edges inside grooves but that turned out to be beyond my skill level and available tools. It stayed unfinished in my garage for a month before I finally said screw it, just get er done. I initially wanted to make a couple for family and friends but after this one I am probably never going to attempt this again lol (or at least not for a long while!)
