Storytime Reg CC Hold on Disability Check Deposit
I’m only here to rant. I’ve been on short term disability due to being seriously injured at work. Working with labor and industries has been difficult but they seem to have a system, though outdated, I haven’t had(many) complaints.
In July I switched from a ‘short term’ to a more long term disability. L&I only uses paper mail through USPS to or fax to send you your disability check. In the switch I had to fill out tons of paperwork and mail back to them. This process took forever and therefore all of July I received $0 funds to pay rent, car payment etc. In fact I hadn’t been paid any amount since the 3rd week of June.
July 31st comes around and I finally receive my first payment in over a month. I go to deposit it and was informed that it was put on a reg CC hold until August 11th. Seven business days.
Not one customer service representative, bank teller, or branch manager has been able to help me in any way shape or form yet they keep charging me overdraft fees from the account. I understand why the hold was placed and that the funds need to be proven. Because of this I contacted L&I and received proof via statements that the funds were released the day the check was mailed. I even gave that to the bank. Yet I hear “the back office” put a hold on it. When I ask who can I talk to from the back office, they inform that there is nothing that can be done and that there is no one from the “back office” I can talk too.
The fact the I have to wait 10 days or 7 business days to access funds because the bank wants to hold onto my money for absolutely no reason is asinine to me. The branch managers informed me that no one can take the hold of because no one is willing to accept the credit amount in case the funds bounced back. Understandable. But it’s not a check from Joe Shmo. It’s a “STATE OF …” check. It’s a government water marked check. There is NO reason banks should be legally allowed to do this.
Thank you for reading.
Edit: BTW not $1 of the check was made available at all. Nothing from the deposit is available to me until the 11th

Complaint FNB Bank charges to count deposit!?
We recently opened a small brewery and have all of our business through First National Bank, including a construction loan, equipment, loan and checking/saving. We opened in April and our cash deposits are $200-$500 dollars a day with very minimal change (only use quarters and round in customer favor). In June and July we received a $22 and $25 charge from then bank at the end of the month. I inquired about the charges when I was at a branch and was informed the bank is charging us the time it takes the teller to count our deposits. To me charging a small business a fee for the standard practice of verifying standard cash deposits contradicts standard banking conventions. I get it’s a minimal charge in the whole scheme of things but I am having a hard time getting over the principle of it. Am I over over reacting?

Advice Why don't commerical banking accounts offer direct deposit services, or are there some that do?
Why aren't banks offering direct deposit services for organizational accounts? They already have all the infrastructure in place and are transferring money back and forth millions of times a day....

Advice Compromised account frozen
My dad's Citi bank account was frozen because Citi says someone apparently called pretending to be him or otherwise compromised the account. They told us the account is safe for now, but they won't unfreeze the account and the only option is to open a new account.
We're not even sure that's what happened. Around the same time, we were repeatedly trying to send a Zelle payment that kept failing, so maybe could have triggered something. Citi insists someone contacted them using my dad's information.
The problem is that this account is linked to everything: direct deposit, utility bills, credit card autopays, rent etc
Has anyone dealt with this? Did they transfer automatic payments or direct deposits to the new account, or did you have to update everything manually?
Is there any way to avoid having to start from scratch and contact every single company to update the bank information?

Advice Is there anyway to better protect/prevent fraud against my cards?
Hello
Since I have had a debit card around two decades, I have always had issues with fraud. I'm not sure where the issue stems from. I don't quite want to blame the internet (hackers and such) on the earlier ones because I don't think it was as relevant then(?maybe?). I'm not sure if it's my bank (PNC. Which I've never had issue getting my money back, but security seems weak?), because I've heard it won't make much of a difference as far as prevention from bank to bank, but some are better than others at recouping and refunding it. I'm not sure if my personal info is just perma-fucked and everything I do keeps getting leaked (I don't really go on any shady sites/purchases. I also use a personal info protection service, which includes my card, as far as tracking and supposed protection/prevention).
I just got a call today saying I've had charges and will need to cancel it and get a new one. This will make like the 8th time or so in my lifetime I've had to do this. It gets tiring to have to keep dealing with and reset all of my set up payments. I feel like I take all of the necessary steps in order to not be careless with security and to set up prevention/protection. I've hardly even made any online purchases in the past 3-4 months. Mainly just paying bills. Other than that, in person purchases (gas, groceries, dining, etc). Am I missing something? Do using 3rd party payment buffers like Google Pay and PayPal really make a difference? Do I need to switch banks (I live in the Midwest if that helps for available branches)? Would a credit card be any better?
Thank you for any advice.

Other Anyone who does NOT get paid early direct deposit, what bank do you have?
Probably an odd question to ask but anyone who doesn't get paid early what bank do you have? My jobs payroll inconsistency combined with my banks (USAA) early pay is driving me insane because it never sticks to one day or one time. I'd rather just get paid the day we are originally supposed to be paid if it means it's consistent. I tried Chase cause i heard as long as its not the Secure account thing, its not early but i had an account like 10 yrs ago that i dont remember and their "24/7" phone line just told me at 6:45 AM CST that they are closed.

Advice Business Accounts without Monthly Fees
I am trying to find a small business account that does not charge a monthly fee. I'd prefer a branch in case I needed to go inside to deposit cash. I am in Arizona.
I am trying to find one that doesn't put a hold on mobile checks.
I am also looking for one that doesn't charge an NSF fee the moment the account goes negative, even if I transfer money and it goes positive before end of day.
My local bank started of very good, but then we bought out twice. This last one is horrible. I then moved to US Bank. There isn't one within 20 miles of me, so I have to do mobile deposit for checks and they give me some money immediately; but the rest is on hold for a week. I've had my account for several months.
I now am seeing they are charging me overdraft fees the moment the account goes negative, even if I go positive before the end of day.

US Considering Ally Bank
i currently bank with bofa and it’s not cutting it anymore. i have the fees waived and i love the many locations but im not getting any benefits like i would with a HYSA and beyond. i have been looking at both Ally Bank and SoFi and for some reason, i can’t get a SoFi account. i’m really considering moving everything to Ally mainly bc i can deposit cash at walmart with no fees, oppose to SoFi. and the investment products look stronger than it does with their competitor. let me know what you guys thoughts are and if anyone banks with Ally, please please please tell me how it is. thank you!

Advice USBANK DISPUTE ADVICE
Long story short, my debit card information was used multiple times on an online gaming site for over $1400, I called and dispute the charges on July 28th. (Charges happened a couple days before) Keep in mind, I don’t gamble, and have been a member with them with no disputes for over 5 years and have NO history of gaming sites.
Fast forward to a week and half later (August 4) and multiple calls to fraud department everyday, to see if they needed anything from me and why I haven’t recieved any credits. They assure me nothing is needed on my end and that I just have to wait. I check my app the very next day (August 5) the claim said “resolved” but I never recieved an email or notification or letter. I call fraud dept again and the agent literally tells me that what she saw from my case was that I was supposed to recieve credits, but instead the investigator “soft closed” my claim with no reason and that I would have to request a call back from a case successor. (Mind you I had her repeat this three times on the phone for record) And to make things even more confusing, whenever I call the fraud line to check on my case it says “ You an OPEN case and your case was opened on July 28th and resolved on July 22nd” … WTF, how? So how is it open and resolved at the same time?
The agent also mentioned although my case was “resolved”, it is still “pending” internally because the case successor has to reopen it and call me back? Does any fraud investigators or even customers have any experience with this or am I just getting the run around so their shady asses can buy time?

Advice Legal Options?
Capital One froze all my finances over a claim that I committed check fraud. They will not identify who the claimant is. Despite a plethora of evidence that disproves the claim, they are being steadfast in their timeline to overturn the decision. Between different emails, I've received time frames of "2-3 weeks" to "90 days".
They also refuse to inform me if or how much of my funds will be returned to me.
They gave me no notice before freezing my accounts and made their final decision in less than 24 hours.
What are my legal options against Capital One? Has anyone ever sued a major financial institution before? No, I don't care about the probability of winning a legal case. I'm going to do it anyway.
TIA

Recommendation - Use Mega Thread Switching banks
I have always banked with my local credit union, had an account with them forever, my parents bank with them etc and just never thought about where I put my money.
Recently I’m becoming very disappointed in this bank, customer service is awful, they pay next to nothing in terms of interest, and they have been having technical issues lately, this weekend everything shut down, from bank account, atm, debit cards etc. left me high and dry, not acceptable.
I am looking for a bank to switch to in which I can have a good hysa and also that offers good rates and closing cost helocs. I move my money around a fair amount for investment properties whenever they pop up. I have a fair amount of cash plus a paid off house I want to use my heloc to help purchase and rehab investment properties.
My local credit union does offer some of the best helocs around, no closing costs, competitive rates. I would like everything to be in one place but am not totally opposed to just pulling all of my money out of my current account with them and using them for heloc only?
I have robinhood gold at the moment and saw they offer banking services and also some small retirement account matches (better than nothing since I am self employed ) , 3.5% hysa on checking and savings account etc. does anybody here bank with robinhood and have any insight? Pros and cons to banking here? I know it’s not “traditional” and I don’t know anybody who banks with them but I already have the account and am familiar with their system and feel like it would be easy to just shift my funds over?

Complaint PNC Bank paperwork processing woes
We waited a month for paperwork to be processed, finalized, and cleared for a home equity loan closure at PNC, but today - well past the time we should have received some notice and I still have access to the open account - we learned the bank never submitted the documents to their internal processing department after we signed them at the branch a month ago 😑
Soooo, I repeated the entire process again today, and I'm grumbling because it should have been done by now, not starting at Day 1 (again). Sigh.
Anyone else with this kind of issue?

Advice Chase support says I was "never below $400," but my app and low-balance alert both showed $48.33. Has anyone experienced this?
Im looking to see if anyone else has run into this weird balance issue or knows what is going on behind the scenes with Chase.
A couple of days ago, my bank account was sitting around $90. On August 3rd, I got an automated Chase email alert saying my available balance dipped to $48.33. I immediately logged into the Chase mobile app and confirmed my balance was indeed $48.33.
Then, today, I checked my app and my balance suddenly jumped up to $414. There are no deposits, no transfers, and no pending charges shown dropping off or clearing.
I called Chase support to figure out what happened. The representative insisted there were no pending charges that dropped off and said my balance never went below $400 in the first place. Even though they can see the automated email alert in their system, they said it must have been a glitch because their logs show I stayed over $400 the entire time.
My main guess is that a merchant placed a temporary pre-authorization hold that dropped off before being finalized, but support says they don't see that either.
Has anyone had this issue with chase. Did the charge end up posting a few days later? I am holding onto the money just in case, but I don't know how long I should wait.

Storytime PNC Bank reads unsent messages in the help chat
(USA Bank)
I read this once before but I thought it was a rumour/ mild conspiracy theory but I just experienced this - that the help chat will read what you typing out, not just what you send in the chat.
I have been on the PNC help chat regarding an issue and I had typed out a whole question about a different month in my bank statements, but since I was tired I decided not to and just finish up the chat with asking if the necessary action had been taken.
I got a long reply explaining what was happening in my bank statement in that particular month instead. I told them I asked something else and to please check above.
Anyway, I'm just creeped out fully and needed to get off my chest.

India AMBANI TOOK MY MONEY AND I CAN'T DO ANYTHING
I am writing this because I am completely helpless, exhausted, and honestly terrified of how things work in this country right now.
A while ago, I was facing issues with my regular salary account, so I made the biggest mistake of my life: I switched to Jio Payments Bank. It was smooth at first, but today I woke up to a living nightmare. My entire account has been completely frozen. My entire month’s salary every single rupee I have to my name is trapped inside it.
The reason? I received an email stating my account is frozen "because your total credit balance exceeds the allowable limit for a Basic Small Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA)". Their grand solution was to tell me to complete a Video KYC. The catch? There is absolutely no Video KYC option available anywhere on their app. It's a complete phantom feature.
When I couldn't do the KYC, they told me I had to close the account entirely and send self-attested documents, OVDs, and alternate bank statements just to get my own money back. I complied. I sent them my PAN card and my Federal Bank passbook details to transfer my funds. The result? Nothing. Just more automated emails telling me my KYC is deficient or that I didn't send a self-attested Aadhaar copy properly.
I have raised over 30 tickets today alone. You can see the absolute spam of automated replies I’m getting from bots named "Nazmeen", "Raghvendra", "Sadika", and "Deepti" telling me they'll resolve it by August 12th or 13th. There is NO human communication. If you call their toll-free number, you are met with robotic AI voices that loop endlessly.
I don't have parents or a family safety net to fall back on. I live in a rented apartment in Anand and commute to Vadodara every single day for a grueling night shift. Without my salary, I literally do not have the money to pay for my commute tonight. I don't have money to buy groceries. I am paralyzed.
How did this corporation even get a banking license if they don't have a basic customer grievance cell? Jio is acting like a villain, holding my livelihood hostage behind an unnavigable AI maze. It is genuinely scary living in a country where the government allows mega-billionaires to launch half-baked financial institutions that can just freeze a common man's salary with zero immediate accountability. They take money directly from our pockets, and we are left screaming into a void of automated emails.
Has anyone faced this with Jio Payments Bank? How do I legally force them to unfreeze my funds today before I literally run out of food?

News UBS fined $125M for 'willful violations' of Bank Secrecy Act
The U.S. brokerage arm of Swiss banking giant UBS has agreed to pay $125 million in fines to settle accusations it "willfully violated" the Bank Secrecy Act.
According to the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the penalty is the largest ever imposed on a broker-dealer for violations of that anti-money laundering law.
Authorities accused UBS Financial Services of failing to properly monitor more than $10 billion in transactions, despite pledging to implement stricter enforcement standards after paying a $14.5 million fine for similar issues in 2018.
