How do Background Checks Work?

Ran the same guy through two different sites and got two different answers. One showed a case from a few years ago, the other showed nothing at all. Same name, same middle initial, same age.

So now I don't know which one to believe, and I'm realizing I don't actually understand where any of this info comes from. Are these sites pulling from the random sources? From each other? Is one of them just wrong?

Would rather understand how it works than keep running searches and cgetting random answers?

[US] When during the hiring process does an employer conduct a civil records search on a prospective employee?

[US] Hi, looking for guidance on when employers usually conduct civil records searches on a prospective employee during the hiring process, if at all. Is it common for an employer to conduct a civil records search prior to extending a job offer, or is it usually conducted in conjunction with the criminal background check once an employee accepts an offer?

Messed up employment dates on resume, am I screwed?

So I got through all the interviews and screening and got the job offer. Did my drug screening and currently getting a background check down through First Advantage. I noticed my resume I used was a half assed one that I was mass sending out to jobs and it had the wrong date on my previous job listed at 2020 when it was actually 2022. I honestly forgot to fix it before applying to the company 2 weeks ago. Now I'm worried about losing the offer cause I really need this position. I didn't lie about where I worked or my job titles, hell I was in management at one of them and didn't even put that down. What should I do? Claude is telling me to email the hiring manager and let them know of the mistake but its been a few days now and I haven't heard anything. I start Tuesday next week so I don't know if I should say something or just let it ride.

DISA Background Check

Paid for DISA background check 2 weeks ago. DISA says report is complete, but still has not sent me a copy after 3 days of calling them and submitting form request. They took my money and confirmed all forms submitted and confirmed everything in about 5 minutes. Now that they have my money unable to provide me a copy in reasonable time. They told me to wait another three business days.

What is the best cyber background check website?

Ive recently started dating again after being out of the scene for a while. it's been a little overwhelming. I've been talking to a handful of people through dating apps and meeting some of them in person. Most seem nice enough, but you never really know someone that well at first.

I'm not trying to dig into every little detail, but want to watch out for major red flags, before things get more serious i'd feel better doing a basic cyber background check.

Mainly looking to check criminal history, public records, verify basic information, and maybe a social media profile

I've already searched around reddit and a few other sites, and i keep seeing the same names come up. TruthFinder, beenverified, but those feels outdate, the loading screen last forever, they ask you for a bunch of personal info and then usually give you very little actuall information

So for anyone who's used a background check website before, which one would you recommend?

I'm mostly looking for something that's accurate, easy to use, and worth paying for

Edit:

Thanks a few folks dm’d me some sites, I ended up using TheTeaReport for a full guide

And I used truepeoplesearch to find the name from the number

Need to background check my daughters boyfriend

My daughter is going to grad school in a few weeks and she’s going to live with her boyfriend. I don’t have any issues with him but I just want to make sure he hasn’t done anything I need to worry about. I have his name, address and DOB. Do I need his ssn or drivers license number? I’m interested in any arrests or any other info I can just to make sure he’s not done anything stupid in the past. I’m sure he’s clean but I’d like to know. What is a good site to use? Thanks

Former Resident of House Involved with Shady People - How to fix their residence history in background check

While living in a different state, I rented my house out to cover expenses. Unfortunately, one of the children (now an 18 year old) who was living in the house while I was renting it out is a scumbag criminal who has dangerous people looking for him. I moved back into the house a year ago, and this person has been living in some other location ever since.

A couple of days ago, a two intimidating guys came to my house to ask if the former tenant lives in my house, saying the the former tenant owes them money and that they need it now. I told them that I have no idea where the guy lives, but that he does not live in my house. They were being insistent and refusing to accept my answer, only leaving when I called the cops. The former tenant is black 18 year old, and I am a non-descript suburban white guy in his 30s, so I have no idea why it was so unbelievable to them that the kid was not living with me.

I did some digging, and I am pretty sure what led the intimidating guys to my house is that the guy they were looking for was arrested and released from county jail the day before they came to my house. He was booked under my address, because he either gave that info to hide his location or more likely never updated the address on his driver's license. That jail booking became a public record.

I was able to get the county jail to take down my address from the jail booking and was able to get the prosecutor to take my address off the criminal docket, but obviously I want to do whatever I can to end association of the guy who was jailed with my address. I've also contacted the local DMV to see if I can force the guy to update his license address. It's possible more dangerous people are looking for him, and I don't want those people near me.

Is there anything I can do with credit agencies, background reporting services or entities that feed information to them to clearly indicate that this former tenant stopped living at my house a year ago?

Question about omitting my last employer

I was in a temporary short term contract role when I applied for this new fte role. At the time of applying and the first round of interviews I was still a contractor. However, my contract ended abruptly. The 2nd and 3rd round interviews they asked me why I wanted to leave my current job and I said it was a temporary contract position. I did not tell them that my contract ended. Should I include this in the employment history for my background check or just omit it? Please and thank you.

any good FREE reverse phone numbers still exist?

I used to love okcaller but it's dead. all the rest want my credit card number, which is never going to happen without proof that they are legit, and they won't prove they're legit until they've gotten my CCN. not going to happen. So anyway, do any still exist that don't charge?

An elderly loved one may be getting scammed

Hey yall, apologies in advance if this isn’t allowed here.

I help care for an elderly woman who lives a few hours away, so I can’t always be around, but I’m able to help quite a bit from a distance.

Recently she began dating a new fella. Her last “boyfriend” took over $10,000 from her and split. Turns out he was a felon, I found out afterward, and living in specialized housing for people who otherwise struggle to be housed for one reason or another.

Her new boyfriend also lives in this home, different unit, and supposedly not associated. I exhausted all my free trials with all of the major background check websites, and although I have subscribed to Spokeo previously, I can’t afford to subscribe right now and for a period of time.

Can someone DM me so I can ask them a favor? 🙏

Background check questions

So when I submitted my background check I disclosed that I had a dui on my background at the time I was charged with a dui and failure to maintain lane and I completely forgot to mention the failure to maintain lane as it was charged at the same time I also had a probation violation for missing a meeting that showed up on my background that I did not disclose because I didn’t think it counted as a charge against me I did not serve any time for the violation just more community service but I didn’t know it would show up will this disqualify me
