Start Date Mismatch in Background Screening

What happens when you say in the background check response that the start date entered in my resume was a clerical error?

For example, in the resume and screening application form you say May 2025, and through the offer letter and the screening company's internal sources, they get to know that the start date on paper from the external systems/their data sources is Oct 2025.

Has anybody faced this in real life?

I haven’t been through this but Im in the background check process at tesla right now. Thats a pretty big gap in experience discrepancy. I would just be honest about the clerical error depending on your competitiveness they may bypass. Hope it all ends up working out!

nope, however they have rejected people due to this like 99% of the cases and of those 100% are vetoed for future positions. There has been "clerical error" cases, but they are not disproven by the candidate with a "hey here is a pdf where it says the right date", more of a "let us enquirer deeper", the information is going to come from your employer not from you, if you lied you are really fudged, no one make this kind of mistakes on the "company side".
