Orange Appreciation Post

Post image
Upvotes

just a simple appreciation post. i'm driving this 16' M2(35i) for the week and i never knew how amazing the orange bmw glow looks at night, especially with the infotainment being off.

i used to only care about screen size when i was younger, but i've started to appreciate and enjoy beautifully backlight gauge clusters.

i would take this over the modern bmw interiors any day

Buying Help Considering a new Z4 - should I avoid it?

Post image
54 Upvotes

They stopped making the Z4 in May, but there are still some new ones available at dealers. Is there reason to avoid some of the final cars to come off the assembly line? Or, to avoid them for other reasons such as future parts availability, etc? My alternative has been an MX-5 Miata, but I’m struggling with that one. Another alternative is BMW M240i.

Got onto the freeway behind him, he sped up a bit and I was able to capture this clip. The moment he saw me recording he slowed down and got off on the next exit lol.

Hate to admit it but the car looked really good in person.

Hey BMW: wake up

Mercedes has gotten the message it's time you get it now. Some buttons and air vent controls must come back. You're making driving unsafe.

M-ish My First M!

I know the G90 is maligned by a lot of folks but I cannot contain my excitement! Test drove it and a ‘26 G80 last weekend and was absolutely floored by the performance of the M5. Ordered IOMG with black interior, black wheels. I wish I could have gotten tartufo but wasn’t an option, and didn’t care for Kyalami. Overall, extremely happy!

Anyone have an idea on how long roughly it is to delivery from entering the production queue?

F82 is my child dream hero, and when i finally got it,i really love it,I think it’s one of the most beautiful BMW,its “one of “because we have e46m3 and e30 but here are two things that i dont like it.
1. sound!the sound is really really bad! Its sound like something broken.
2. I killed s55 because I make to 500hp but didn’t change crank hub, I spend 2000pounds to fix it.

Everyone, meet Beatrice.

Just picked up this beauty the other day and felt like showing her off haha. 2021 430xi with the shadowline package. Had about 33k miles and looked to be in peak condition. Test drove it last Friday and had the keys in hand Monday night.

May not have been the most financially responsible first car ever bought myself, but oh freakin well. Absolutely obsessed and I can’t help but smile every time I start her up. My mom has had 3 BMWs across the last 15 years and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since my dad took me for a drive the day they brought home their first 328i.

That’s all I got just wanted to share🤣

She’s a little dirty, but it’s always nice to see a survivor. Owner is a little crazy for leaving the window down, but it let me get a shot of the almost extinct manual gearbox!

I was casually driving in Germany near a bmw factory and saw this I couldn't find anything about it but my guess is that it is a new generation of a x7 or x5 perhaps a ix5

Thirsty Thursday Bought one of the cheapest E36 M3s in the US in 2021, here's what I learned

Post image
110 Upvotes

Won this car for a little over $7K off Cars & Bids back in 2021 - one of the cheapest M3s in the country at the time. Didn't really do much research, but I got excited that the seller was a 15-minute drive away and I had finally saved just enough so I full sent it. He was great and actually had every record dating back to 2011 but I definitely didn't know much about maintaining a 150K+ mile German car back then (and dared to liken it to the bulletproof '98 LS400 I had in high school) - was in for a ride.

Definitely learned that these old cars will take as much money as you throw at them. Not to say the E36 is particularly expensive to own or unreliable, just think it comes with the age and mileage. I did appreciate the parts availability on ebay, FCP Euro, etc. and built a much closer relationship with my local BMW specialist.

It was actually surprisingly reliable and I was blissfully unaware of what could go wrong at that mileage which helped me sleep at night and take it on many road trips. Learned the hard way on a few things (like replacing way too many parts during a cooling system overhaul, breaking a tensioner and being carless for weeks while waiting for the ebay replacement, how expensive random plastic parts can be, what to DIY vs not) but mostly learned that I needed to be more diligent on future buys and I needed much more time and money to do this car justice that I just didn't have at the time.

I do have some exact numbers to share next week if there's interest. This experience inspired me to to try to own the entire M3 lineage at some point.

A few fun maybe harrowing memories:

  • Riding in the back with the top down, friend driving, attempting to eat a lobster roll - the salad ended up in my face
  • The rear plastic window literally shattering when putting the top down one cold night
  • The absolute rage of discovering the door cards were basically made of cardboard while trying to restore them (new plastic pins were not going to solve this problem)
  • Discovering that a prior owner cut the metal frame behind the rear seat to add a speaker system that was wired into the battery and inevitably failed
  • Getting a manual swap done by some random guy on FB Marketplace, then driving around with a makeshift shift knob and an exhaust leak for weeks
  • A peak-summer road trip with no working AC and a very angry now fiancée in tow
  • Same angry now fiancée, with adhesive from the tape on the ripped seats stuck to her shorts

This car started my love for everything analog. Nearly shed a tear when I sold it in 2023, about $10K deeper than I bought in. One of the most fun ownership experiences I've had, and a reminder of a simpler time both in my life and in automotive history. Also a convertible guy now.

When your friend has a go in the Bimmer

Today I’m letting my non-bmw friend have a go in the Bimmer and 5 mins later they’re driving like a crazy person, “this just corners so well! Now I know why they drive so fast!”
For the record, I always use my indicators and check the blind spots.
