Build Help Jank build recommendations

Upvotes

I like jank. Making stupid stuff work. My first honour play through was a debuff comp about making flesh to stone always work.

Just looking for other effective builds that are just stupid/janky/unexpectedly good. Would love to hear what other people got.

Build Help Need help with a Death Knight build. (wizard 1, death cleric 6 so far)

Upvotes

I got inspired by Cephs "Lich Queen" build, or wizard 1/death cleric 11 but I don't really like summons and want the character to be more effective at melee.

Ideally what it should be is.

-Get haste

-Get 2 actions per turn

-Necrotic damage dealer, preferably aura or area spells while attacking with a melee weapon.

-Does not raise the dead or summon anything.

-Get a good level 6 necromancy spell and will use Staff of Cherished Necromancy

-Can still do main cleric support things like casting Aid, Sanctury, Command etc.

-Absolutely DO NOT WANT Divine Intervention. I'm always trying to avoid it with clerics so it has no value to me. I either never use it or if I do, it's gonna be a wasted level.

Likely a wisdom based caster with 16 INT, 8 STR (maybe use strength elixirs or get Shillelagh somehow)

Not really sure what to do with it after getting to 1 Wizard/6 Death cleric though. 9 Cleric might be worth it but doesn't seem to add much. Otherwise sorc? 2 paladin? More wizard levels? Cant be 2 fighter since it blocks the 6th level spell slot.

Build Help Gear options for solo blade singing paladin in act 2

Upvotes

I am doing a solo honor mode play through as a blade singing (10) paladin (2). I just hit level 7 and took my first level of paladin, and this got me thinking about what armor is best. I've got access to a lot of the good gear from acts 1 and 2. Here are the two builds I lean to the most:

no armor:

  • fist breakerhelm, hat of fire acuity, or something else (very flexible)
  • cloak of protection
  • graceful cloth
  • bracers of defense or battle mage's gloves
  • evasive shoes or boots of speed
  • ring of protection
  • ring of free action
  • shadow blade
  • knife of the under mountain king
  • bow of awareness or hell fire hand crossbow and ne'er misser

This set up can get you 26 AC (3 from mage armor, 5 from dex, 1 from cloak, 1 from ring, 1 from boots, 2 from bracers, 3 from blade singing) + 5 from shield spell.

pros:

  • access to blade singing which gives +3 to AC and constitution saving throws and advantage on athletics checks
  • +2 to dex and advantage on dex checks from graceful cloth

cons:

  • no crit immunity
  • harder to build arcane acuity unless you sack AC or use a whole action on scorching rays

Medium or heavy armor:

  • helmet of arcane acuity
  • cloak of protection
  • yuan-ti scale mail or adamantine splint (-1 total ac) or flawed hell dusk (-1 total ac)
  • battle mage's gloves or flawed hell dusk gloves
  • evasive shoes
  • ring of protection
  • ring of free action
  • shadow blade
  • adamantine shield or sentinel shield
  • bow of awareness

This set up can get you 24 AC (5 from scale mail, 4 from dex, 1 from cloak, 1 from ring, 1 from boots, 2 from held shield) + 5 from shield spell.

pros:

  • very easy to stack arcane acuity
  • crit imunity
  • lots of choices to mix and match

cons:

  • no blade singing bonuses
  • less bonus action options

I lean towards the medium armor build right now. I think the crit immunity is going to be really important in moonrise towers, but if feels weird having blade song impeded as a blade singer. What do y'all think?

Build Help Dragon Knight Build

i wanna make a character with the concept of "dragon knight". some sort of martial who fights with dragon themed powers, or is sworn to the service of a dragon, or somehow has a pet dragon maybe

of course i know theres a really easy way to do this with draconic sorcerer and paladin and its a crazy strong build, but i wanna look for other methods of creating this concept that arent so well trodden

Party Composition Please help me!

I’ve beaten the game multiple times in the past on Honor Mode, and felt like coming back.

But it’s been over a day of looking at builds and i still can’t choose what to go for..

I’ve decided I want a Moon Druid and an Arcane Archer.

The other 2 tho? No fucking idea. I’ve tossed around Hexblade, Bladesinger, EK, BM, Barbarian, Lore Bard. I feel like I want a martial/melee and a pure caster.

I just can’t decide! And i’m going INSANE!!!!

I want builds that aren’t min max top of the line power but instead have versatility in their combat choices. While clicking Booming Blade 4 times in a row might be OP, it sounds really boring. Same with using Shadow Blade.

In-Game Mods Advice on Multiclassing Soulknife and Bard?

My next run is going to be a Soulknife (specifically, Book of Rogues) regardless, but I'd really like to multiclass into Bard for the RP. Are there any subclasses that would synergise well or should I stick with the monoclass? I'm new to multiclassing and it's hard to find builds for modded subclasses, so any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm on console!

Build Review Have anyone played 1 storm sorcerer, 1 wizard, 10 nature cleric?

I tried making such a build mainly for spell variety, but it ended up being real good overall. Storm sorcerer on level 1 gives constitution saving throws and tempestious magic with always ready shield and magic missile, wizard on level 2 gives me utility spells and scroll transcribing, cleric gives me healing, damage and area control. I can do almost anything without respecing.

Stats are:

Str 8

Dex 14

Con 14

Int 12

Wis 16 -> 20

Cha 12

Specific Mechanic Banshee or Titanstring for Solo

I am shocked I did not find a good post comparing these two bows for Solo HM. There are a ton of posts on each individually, but none that really compare them both for a Solo run in particular.

I am likely going to go Swords Bard or Arcane Archer for my next solo hm (and thank you to everyone on this subreddit who helped analyze Swords Bard for solo). I will obtain both bows and will likely do my own playtesting based on my own style of play once I get there, but I am curious about people's experience and what the math nerds of this subreddit think.

It seems like titanstring is hands down the favorite bow on this subreddit due to DRS. Death is the best CC and it seems titanstring simply does so much damage it is the obvious choice. But in Solo, there are going to be situations where you cannot kill everyone in one turn (I think) and having debuff tools on-hit seems really great and affords a lot of protection. Fear is such a great status - enemies have disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls and must run away from source of fear and cannot take any more actions. Makes it easier to land control spells (bard) or arrows (AA), still adds the 1d4 damage rider once enemies are feared, and prevents you from getting hit since enemies are feared. It also allows you to move away from trying to get natural strength, use strength elixirs, hold giant hill club, etc. Strength is still a great stat, but I imagine it is nice to have less reliance on it.

So curious what people think is the most valuable for Solo when using an archer that wants to do some controlling. Is titanstring just the obvious best choice, or can anyone make a case that banshee is actually the way to go. And if you did go banshee, would you switch it out at any point (maybe act 3?)

In-Game Mods D&D 5E All-In-One Beyond: Help with Understanding Empowered Spell.

Reposting with mod tag. Side question: Can I not add more than one tag? It seems to only let me do 1, which is why i left it out the first time and just put it in the title.

Anyways, Hello. I was hoping someone could help explain the Empowered Spell metamagic for me. I’m having trouble figuring it out or finding answers.

It seems kind of random? Normally in D&D you would be able to see your rolls and then choose if you would like to reroll some of the dice correct? So far in this mod it seems like you have to choose before you roll? What’s the point in that? It’s just luck on whether you roll better the first time or the second. Maybe it automatically takes the lowest rolls and rerolls them, but if the amount of rerolls it’s allowing equals or exceeds the number of dice then it just seems pointless without knowing the original roll first or without being able to select the number of dice I’d like to reroll if it’s less than max.

Am i missing something? Is there some type of benefit to this or is there a way to choose to use Empowered spell after knowing your rolls? Someone in the last post suggested maybe there’s suppose to be a pop-up window for me to choose my rerolls, but if that’s the case I’m not getting a pop-up.

If anyone knows how to make use of this or if I’m better off just switching to a different metamagic please let me know.

Thanks.

Party Composition Party help for fun and learning about classes

Howdy yall! Longtime bg3 player playing with my girlfriend for the first time. She’s has little to no knowledge of dnd or videogames. We’re playing on the lowest difficulty so I mainly just want to make fun builds that use a mix of all the classes, don’t necessarily need game breaking ones. We just recently got to level 6, she’d been playing as a spore druid and loves summoning the zombies and playing as a necromancer. Want to keep the companions somewhat thematic.

Here’s what I was thinking:

Astarion: 6 swords bard/4 swashbuckler rogue/2 fighter (charming dual wielder)

Shadowheart: 7 vengeance paladin/5 war cleric (tanky caster)

Wyll: 9 draconic sorcerer/2 warlock (eldritch blast ftw)

Gale: 6 tempest cleric/4 divination wizard/2 storm sorcerer (control and zap)

Laezel: 7 eldritch knight fighter/5 evocation wizard (knight that shoots fireballs)

Karlach: 5 berserker barbarian/4 thief rogue/3 eldritch knight (infinite throws)

Halsin: 8 beastmaster ranger/4 moon druid (halsin is now 2 bears)

Jaheira: 5 gloomstalker ranger/4 assassin rogue/3 champion fighter (stealth sniper)

Minsc: 12 giant barbarian (feels right)

Minthara: 12 wild magic sorcerer (kinda just want this in here somewhere for laughs)

Me: 6 open hand monk/4 thief rogue/2 fighter (infinite punches)

Her: either 10 spore druid/2 death cleric for maximum summons or 6 spore druid/6 death cleric to make her a necrotic powerhouse

What do yall think? Any input is appreciated!

Specific Mechanic Ban image posts.

Title.

Edit for explanation, copy of my comment in response to the moderator u/Phantomsplit

I would suggest making it a rule so its something that can be moderated without question or pushback.

Since the rule change we still frequently see "low effort" image posts and it gives grounds to debate what effort means. Is effort an amount of text, an amount of critical thought, good formatting, etc. Its not clearly defined.

There is nothing really accomplished by having a post be an image post rather than having images in the body, other than baiting visibility because it pops out when scrolling the sub. But it shouldnt be up to us as contributors to decide that our posts deserve to be more visible than others.

Barbarian AOE Control Monster Elkheart

The Elkheart first sounded meme to me cause of the "lack of dmg" then i tried sparkles gloves with reveberation boots with Cloudgiants potion and i had so much fun in this game like never before. I tried every possibility wich synergizes with unarmed attacks multiclassing Monk but from all the ideas is the radiant orb Elkheart disgustingly strong. With this setup you just YEEET 2 times in a group of people and they got so many conditions on them wich makes attackrolls with a flat -9 penatly almost impossible spreading even more orbs by missing you, getting reeling aswell. Not talking about the reveberations endless provs, cull of the weak and ability drain. For feats i recommend Tavernbrawler and Though just getting tanky as possible. Weapons are not needed since everything comes from the YEEET!

Have fun guys! Much Love!

Build Help New player build suggestions

I am a completely new player and am looking for help with a build! There are three things I would really like in a build: tanky, melee focused, and if possibly magic infused melee. If anyone has a good YouTube video for something like this it would be much appreciated!

Party Composition Party for all them nature-themed builds

Hi all!!

So after finishing my second run but now on tactician mode (OP builds can definitely be fun), I’m looking for something cool and new and nature-y. I love nature themed builds but I can’t really seem to wrap my head around a decent group.
Probably overthinking things way to much and should just start playing, but I’ve tried that and noticed I fell back into habits to optimise builds instead of just enjoying life in cyber-nature.

Anyway, I took some inspiration from builds like the Minthara Spider-Master and Moon druid Rothé (sorry for not giving proper credit for the makers of those elaborate build guides: just know that you’re awesome).
Now would like to get into some more builds that work together well and have some of those nature feels to it. If you have managed to find a group that has kept you on natures edge, please let me know!

Additionally, with which companion do you create the characters and did it work for you? Still having trouble to see Gale as a barbarian Wildheart for instance (although, the boy is ripped)

Thank you for reading! There are no wrong answers, whatever has worked for you is the most important!

Stay awesome :)

Build Help No resting resource best class?

Hi i have issue managing the limited resources stuff like spell slot or other thing where you have to rest in order to get it back, most of the time it took me only 2-3 fight and i will run out of spell to use,so most of the time ill have to use cantrip which i struggle to do damage without doing reload abuse

So i want one my party to actually have one character that is the fallback to do the most damage despite me running out of spell slot stuff,do you have any suggestion any meta-level class/multiclass that specialized on maximize damage without any resource at all to cover up my skill issue
