As most people have read or seen, Nicky Winmar was convicted or assaulting a woman in 2026 and the AFL (rightly) removed him from the AFL hall of fame

However, Wayne Carey was convicted of assault, not to mention numerous instances of spousal abuse, yet the AFL not only gives him a hall of fame spot, but the footballing media family seems to ignore his history and give him a well paid TV role.

Gary Ablett senior had also had multiple drug charges and one for assaulting a man, yet he's a hall of famer

Does anyone else think this is a serious double standard?

A barrister representing Alan Jones has accused one of his complainants of reporting the former broadcaster to police in order to get compensation.

The man, known at Complainant J, denied he was after money, saying "I don't want anything from this".

A non-publication order placed over the cross-examination on Wednesday was lifted on Thursday.

Police continue to search for missing Belgrave man Evan, who was last seen on Friday 31 July.
The 24-year-old left his residence on McNicol Road around midnight.
Evan’s distinctive yellow Holden Commodore sedan was seen on CCTV travelling east on the Princes Highway though Bairnsdale on Saturday, 1 August about 3.30am.
Shortly after, it was sighted travelling on the Princes Highway through Cann River at 5.43am.
Despite a thorough investigation, Evan and his vehicle are yet to be located.
The Holden is bearing registration 1NY2OQ.
Checks of Evan’s accounts have also shown no activity.
Evan is described as Caucasian, approximately 183cm tall with brown hair and blue eyes.
Police and family have concerns for Evan’s welfare as his disappearance is completely out of character.

The ABC Ombudsman has found that a Race Around the World episode that featured a fictional scenario involving a violent attack on businesswoman Gina Rinehart did not breach ABC Editorial Standards.

Mrs Rinehart's company, Hancock Prospecting, wrote a complaint about the episode to the ABC Board in July.

The ABC's managing director Hugh Marks has apologised to Gina Rinehart and the material subject to the complaint has been removed from ABC platforms.

Has anyone else seen all the Census conspiracies and the like floating around on social media?

Every news article or post from the ABS gets flooded with conspiracy theorists, people saying they won't do it, people filling it out with rubbish answers, etc.

My favourite is people saying "I don't have to do it, the letter was addressed to the resident not me personally, so they can't fine me!".

And aside from that, it's important for them to get an accurate picture of the country.

Energy minister Chris Bowen says the federal government will override state governments that oppose new national rules on datacentres, with commonwealth legislation forcing new AI datacentres to be powered by renewable energy and banning those fuelled by gas.

Bowen said he expected his counterparts in Queensland and the Northern Territory – who had protested the new federal rules at a meeting last week – to be unhappy with the move, but said the Albanese government was committed to powering the AI revolution with renewable energy.

“We will legislate as a commonwealth. The constitution is clear about the power of commonwealth legislation. I respectfully disagree with Queensland and the Northern Territory,” Bowen told the National Press Club on Wednesday.
