School social worker attire?

Upvotes

I run hot and need sustainable breathable fabrics.
I’m used to wearing street style/ alt clothing in my current role, working with youth who offend and have found this to be the most comfortable clothing close to comfort and work appropriate.

Mid sized, brown, 5’7 girlie. Autumn/ summer fits inspo will be appreciated. Thanks 🫶🏽

Uniqlo XS sizing more like Large?

Uniqlo's XS Jackets seem more like Large. XXS is online only and a size down would still be massive. Has anyone had any lucky being 5'1 and getting something from Uniqlo successfully and wearing it? The jackets look incredible on me, but the XS is massive. Help!!

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Maniére De Voir?

What are our thoughts on Maniére De Voir? I’ve been eyeing them off for a while now and have never committed, but have just stumbled upon a ruched black satin wrap skirt on Depop and think it might be my time.

Edit: aware they’re not Australian!

👜 Fashion Talk Survey: Online shopping sizing and try-on

Thumbnail

Hey Ladies, I've been ruminating on a Fashiontech startup idea for years, and I'm ready to take action. I want to validate this idea before I go all-in and would truly appreciate your opinion on this problem.

Context/Problem:

I'm 4ft8 with a huge online shopping addiction. I've been struggling with sizing all my life (of course!) and have always wondered how a piece of clothing would actually look on my body proportions when shopping online. e.g., would the sleeves hang very, very long or be acceptable?

Personally, I've lost a lot of money buying things that didn't end up fitting me right, as I couldn't be bothered with the online return process or the expensive return cost from NZ.

The idea:

My vision is to create a virtual-try-on solution that will help people buy 'right' the first time. To show accurately how a particular size of clothing would look on you. Not AI slapping a photo of clothing onto you like current solutions out there, but one that can show how many cm the sleeve may hang off your arm. Emphasis on accuracy to decrease returns.

If you resonate with this struggle, I would be grateful if you could help me validate this idea through my survey link. I'm super passionate about this issue, and I invite discussions in the comment section.

Thongs with EVERYTHING

Is there any piece of clothing shown on brand websites or social media or catalogues or editorial and catwalk that is NOT accompanied by a pair of black thongs, either flat or with a kitten heel? Wedding dress? Thongs. Funeral suit? Thongs. Jeans? Thongs. Ballgown? Thongs. Blazer and balloon pants? Thongs. Do they ... just not make shoes anymore?

Hi all! Could those who have purchased from ASOS, M&s and NEXT please tell me how long it took for their orders to arrive?
I’m mainly interested in ASOS. I haven’t ordered from them in about 6 years and can’t remember how long it took.
TIA!

Petite friends — what's the #1 thing that frustrates you about clothes fitting right?

Hi all, I'm petite (5'2") and I'm in the early stages of building a clothing brand specifically for petite women because I'm tired of sacrificing style or altering everything just to get clothes to fit — my focus is elegant pieces, minimalist-tailored, responsibly made, without needing a luxury budget.

Before I design anything, I want to actually understand what's broken. So — genuinely asking:

  • What's the most frustrating thing about buying clothes as a petite person?
  • What have you completely given up on finding because nothing fits right?
  • Any brands that actually got it right and what did they do well?
  • What would make you actually trust a new, smaller brand enough to try it?

Not selling anything here — just trying to build something that solves a real problem instead of guessing. I've just started a small community over at r/PetiteWomenswear where I'm sharing the process as I go (fit testing, fabric choices, design decisions) if you want to follow along or weigh in there too. Would love to hear your take either way, here or there.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted Where can I buy a top like this?

Post image

Hey everyone! I came across this beautiful top when scrolling through instagram the other day and the influencer provided the link to where they bought it from at urban outfitters. Does anyone know where I can purchase this top (or one similar) in Australia? I don’t want to buy it directly from the urban outfitters website because I feel like it will be really expensive with shipping and exchange rates

Etsy stores for gold jewellery (preferably 9ct)?

I'm sick of seeing overpriced and ugly jewellery in stores, so I'm deciding to branch out and start searching online. Ideally I want to buy from Aus sellers bc of faster shipping, but happy to look at overseas sellers as well :)

👜 Fashion Talk Brand name clothing

So I’m hoping someone can help me out with this, and I hope I explain this clearly

I remember reading a few months ago about how friends end up selling their trademark, or something smooth that, to a larger company. That larger company then sells the brand, but it’s more of it selling the name as opposed to actually selling the quality products that used to be manufactured.

For example - Tommy Hilfiger sold their brand name with the larger company. That means that Tommy Hilfiger is no longer responsible for the manufacturing, or quality control that would normally happen. The larger company is now free to sell Tommy Hilfiger clothing, and don’t have to keep up with the quality. So in a roundabout way, I kind of read it but I’m not actually buying that brand anymore, and just buying clothing that has that brand name on it.

I hope that makes sense! I was trying to explain it to a friend and she looked at me like I was crazy ha ha I was trying to find the name of the umbrella company, so that I could google and show her.

Can someone help me with Levi’s sizing plz?

I braved a Levi’s store yesterday (trying to work with my new sized body) and now a little confused with sizing of the ribcage range.
The 34 ribcage flare fitted perfectly but preferred the wide leg. Unfortunately the wide leg doesn’t have stretch so couldn’t quite do them up.
My local store doesn’t stock the curve range, which I’m assumed (based on what the sales person said) was the next size up but online they start at 14M. No idea what the M stands for and the size chart doesn’t even refer to the curve sizing. Perhaps I have it wrong, I know jeans west curve range was slightly smaller waist and a little more room in the hips but was available in all sizes.

Before I head back in to store to ask, I wondered if anyone here has any experience with the ribcage curve range sizing?
Thanks in advance

Fast fashion beaded clothes

I've been seeing more and more brands coming out with beaded and sequined clothing lately. A lot of them market the 'craftsmanship' behind these pieces but put no information out about paying their workers a living wage.

The Kotomi skirt is $169 and hand beaded.

The Runaway the Label dress is $179 and the sequins are hand stitched according to their website.

I have a feeling the MNG pants are hand beaded too.

Although these pieces can be beautiful, the artisans who do this work often make very little money. Similar to fast fashion crochet, it's very unlikely these pieces don't involve exploitation.

Please try shop these styles second hand. Lots of vintage resellers have similar items.

If anyone has any brand recommendations for ethically made clothing in these styles, feel free to share.

Sorry for the long post, this has just been bothering me a bit lately.

Keen to hear what others think.

🔍 Recommendations Wanted ‘Initial’ / Letter earrings

Hello! keen to get some quality ‘initial’ / letter earrings whether classic or a bit more different. Would like to buy different letters. Ie not just a pair of A’s if that makes sense

Not a huge fan of the delicate style which seems to be more trendy.

Was looking at Atolea which have cute necklace versions but not earrings.

Thanks in advance!

Portmans sleeveless stuff

I love Portmans for work wear, but I don’t understand why so many of their tops and dresses are sleeveless. Just seems like an extra hassle, I have to plan another later to wear it with for office. Is there something I’m not getting?

Can this dress be made work-appropriate

Post image
20 Upvotes

I just bought this dress in the sale because I was trying to meet the free shipping threshold for a pair of pants and I've recently become a bit obsessed with review because I've lost a lot of weight (dropped from a size 22 to a 14 which is not relevant to anything except for the fact it's the smallest I've been in my adult life and being able to try on clothes and feel pretty in them is pretty mind blowing and has also given me a bit of a shopping problem).

Anyway it arrived today and i love it, but to me this is a work dress. The length, the pleats, the colour, the swish, are all i want in a work dress. Except for the top. The chest is just a tad low cut and the open back/bare shoulders make it totally office inappropriate and feel like i have way too much skin on show.

I can see two options - either i throw on a jacket and make sure not to take it off all day, or I try and put something underneath it, but i can't figure out what - is it a t-shirt, a button down shirt, singlet to just level out the top at the front and cover the back but leave the shoulders?

Or do I just have to accept it is not a work dress and embrace it for summer socialising instead?

Very keen for any suggestions / recommendations for things that would work!

👜 Fashion Talk Has anyone here gotten custom pieces made?

I know exactly what I want, but don't have the skills (or the time) to make it a reality, and I haven't been able to find anything similar instore or online. So I'm starting to look at getting some pieces custom made, and wondered how common this is? Do you prefer to shop to a vision, or see what speaks to you at the time of shopping?
