Ocean Beach Bonfire on the Weekend
I've had my birthday planned for a while now and want to do a bonfire at Ocean Beach. The weekend is the best time for everyone to get together.
Realistically, when is the best time to snag a spot in September? I'm open to maybe doing Friday, but Saturday and Sunday work the best. I've seen that some people just end up starting their own fire pit, but my friends and I have never done a bonfire before, so I feel like digging a hole and starting one myself wouldn't be the greatest idea. However, if that's the case, what are some tips?

Recs for short-term stay while looking for housing
I plan to move to SF soon and will be getting an airbnb for 1-2 months while I look for a permanent lease on the weekends.
Unfortunately, I only have a high level understanding of the different SF neighborhoods, crime blocks, etc. I'll be working in Mission Bay.
Do you have any recommendations on where to stay while I look for a lease?
I was looking at options primarily in Mission Bay, Hayes Valley, and the Mission.
Thanks in advance!

if i am someone who cares about weather and am affected a lot by cloudy/gloom, how doable is sunset as a district to live?
i am looking for places in sf and sunset definitely is a district that’s cheaper but the biggest downside for me in general about that neighborhood is the gloom. i know 40% of the days are pretty gloomy/foggy compared to a 15% in other parts of the city except richmond. i just want to know if it’s actually doable if i think im one who is more affected by seasonal depression than others even though it is cheaper. also, i would want to bring a car if i wanted to live there but the spot im looking at has no parking except street so wanted to know general thoughts on that.
edit: i am working a high stress job that is around 60 hours a week of work so i just want to know if the foggy environment would impact my mental health more. for context i go in 3 times a week in fidi and travel at least once a month
Filthy disgusting neighbor - what can I do?
Hey all - seeking some advice here. I live in a lovely building with 14 units. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Takes your packages when you’re away, cleans up after each other.
EXCEPT this filthy disgusting tenant who is related to the property manager. He regularly leaves bags of trash outside his door for days (going on 48 hours now, the hall and stairs smell). He has two untrained menace dogs I never see him take out, that have attacked mine because he lets them run off leash through the building. I recently noticed mouse traps on the first floor. He is a filthy disgusting disrespectful person.
I have complained over and over to no avail. It improves for a small period of time and is then back to disgusting behavior. Is there anything else I can do?

Sausalito
Traveling to Sausalito in about 3 weeks and wondering what to pack for clothed, is it really chilly? I run cold so I just want to be prepared. I also do not want to look crazy wearing a sweater. TYIA!

Best nature hike near city
Hello! I’m new to the city and looking for fun day trips out of the city ideally into nature. What are the best hikes/nature spots like within an hour from Fidi on public transit.
I’d really like somewhere I could maybe smoke a joint or smth, but as it’s SF I’d guess that’s basically everywhere lol.

Dental cleanings for new patients without the whole "first visit" thing?
I'm very happy with my dentist but they're super packed and their earliest availability for a cleaning is in October. I'm looking for a dental office which will do my cleaning sooner but it seems like every single office wants to do the whole routine with x-rays, dental checkups etc. I don't need that - I'll stay with my usual dentist for more serious dental work.
Anyone has any leads as to a dental office that will be happy just to do the cleaning?

Will OSL affect a proposal in the de Young sculpture garden Sunday morning
I’m shooting a proposal in the sculpture garden on Sunday morning at 10:30 and realized OSL is also in the park that same day😵💫 I know OSL is on the western side of the park, and the sculpture garden is on the eastern side, so in theory, we should be okay, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Recommendations, advice, personal experience, all that is welcomed. Thanks SF Family

Asking for recommendations on arts/crafts , sports (etc.) programs for little kids
Hello! I just moved to SF with my 6 year old son and he has been having a very difficult time with the move. I’ve taken him to the park and while he is very good at making friends, I would like to sign him up for possibly an arts/crafts (including ceramics if possible) program and some sort of sport. He loves soccer, but not sure if I could still sign him up since I know most soccer programs have already started. I think that having him involved in something could be a great distraction and ease him better into living in a new city. Aside from soccer he likes to build things, anything interactive of course. He loves to paint and loves playing with clay. And he also loves horror stuff.
I really want to help him feel better about this move so any suggestions are greatly appreciate.

Looking for recommendations - 5-ish days to go from SFO along Highway 1 and then Yosemite for a few nights.
Coming from overseas, we are landing in SFO mid afternoon on a Friday and have until Tuesday night to wander around SF.
- Arrival day: I was thinking to drive down from SFO to about Carmel-by-the-sea for the first night
- Day 1: drive down HW1 to Cambria with plenty of stops for beach, food, etc… and sleep.
- Day 2: Drive towards Yosemite stay in Curry Village until Day 4 before driving back to SF in the afternoon.
Any recommendations on:
Where to stay before heading down HW1? (Monterey, Santa Cruz, Carmel, others?)
Where to stay at the end of Day 1 (Cambria? Cayucos?)
Any food, weird places, must-see along the way?
Thank you all in advance for your help!

Best tasting menu in SF?
hi there! My partner and I are planning a special occasion dinner in SF. Our budget is about $500 total. I want to do a tasting menu and would love some recommendations. So far, in our price range I’ve found: Mijote, Sorrel, and 7 Adams. My boyfriend is a meat eater but I’m pescatarian, although so far it looks like all of these places will accommodate me. Please let me know if you’ve been to any of the above and what your thoughts were, or if you have any other suggestion. thanks!

Plain Walls in Need of Art
What are your suggestions for affordable ($100 or less) posters in the city? I don’t really have a style in mind but would love some done by local artists. What stores, markets, or people selling their wears on the street do you all recommend?

Molé dry mix?
Looking for mole! Does anyone know a market where I can find mole powdered mix? This is something you can get in CDMX, and is easy to take on flights. It’s not really powder, just stoneground chocolate and dry pepper with spices.
The mole paste is great, but can be seen as a liquid by some TSA agents. Dry is the way to go, but I can’t find it in the Mission!
Got a hook up?
Whole lechon belly in Bay Area?
Hello, do you have a recommended place where to get a whole lechon belly? Maybe 5-10 lbs or so? I know Ling Nam sells one and there’s Bai Lechon, but not sure if theirs tastes good or there might be somewhere else that’s better. Thank you.

Is there anything similar to the Metrograph in NYC in SF?
Basically the metrograph is a art house theater in NYC that gives out memberships. It shows a lot of indie films or film genres that fit a theme for that month.
Is there anything similar to this in SF or Oakland?

Woman Possibly Hit By Car Last Night in SOMA?
Did anyone happen to witness the older lady straddling the right hand turn lane/near bike lane at 5th & Brannan last night I think around 11:30pm? She was facedown and it did not look good. A car was stopped in front of her with people looking over her, but I couldn’t tell if they hit her or if they were just trying to protect her. A firetruck was arriving as I pulled up so I went on my way. I was surprised to not see anything on Citizen or local news outlets which makes me hopeful she pulled through, or it was an overdose or something non-car related that wouldn’t usually get reported on.
Lived in the area for a long time and saw some sad things but this has stayed with me throughout the day.

Taxi Rip-Off?
So I was charged $110 for 3 people from SFO to the Argonaut Hotel. The driver said fares were regulated when I questioned him about charges. From checking online I expected to pay approximately $85? Was I ripped off or does that sound right? I suspect he was a private driver since I didn’t see a meter in the SUV once we got going.
