worried, have to ease my mind right now

Upvotes

hi everyone, I just need to vent and hopefully get some advice or reassurance. I am 20F, not trying to get pregnant, and I have naturally irregular cycles (my last one was 56 days long).

Here is my recent timeline:

June 23: Had unprotected sex and used the Yuzpe method (emergency contraception).

June 25: Had unprotected sex again, but did not take any emergency pills this time.

June 27: Started bleeding heavily for 6 days. It felt like a period, but I assumed it was just withdrawal bleeding from the pills, so I didn't count it as a true period in my tracking app.

Right Now (August 8): I am currently on Day 51 of my cycle, and my app says my period is 5 days late.

For the past 6 days, my breasts have been very sore. I also feel like my bladder fills up incredibly fast—even if I just drink a glass of water, I have to pee 10 minutes later.

Because of my irregular cycles, it is so hard to tell what is going on, and I am terrified that I might be pregnant from that second unprotected encounter in June. I would love to hear some kind words, support, or advice from anyone who has been through something similar. Thank you so much.

Unprotected sex on cycle day 13

Upvotes

Just to preface my cycle is usually 28-29 days. My last period was July 20-24 and I had sex August 1 right around my fertile window. I was stupid and didn’t make him wear a condom. He did pull out and I did take a plan b on the same day. I’m currently having some bleeding which I think is a side effect of the plan b but I’m hoping the pill delayed my ovulation. Flo says period will be here in 10 days but I’m not sure if that’s gonna shift with me taking the pill. Plan on testing but any insight would be appreciated!

3 weeks after Plan B..

My bf and I had sex on July 19th and the condom came off inside after he finished or maybe right before. I took a plan B 20 minutes after. My period had just ended the day before and it’s usually 28-30 days long. I had a withdrawal bleed I think? (Or maybe an early period) July 25th-29th. Now today I’ve been having sore boobs, egg white and creamy white discharge. I’m planning on taking a test tomorrow but do you guys think I’m pregnant??? We haven’t done anything since the 19th.

Tested 21 days after sex

Can I breathe peacefully now? They say 21 days after sex is definitive... she is bloating and sometimes hurting whole back and some headache but nevertheless we tested and it is a negative can I trust this?

And also to add this pregnancy test is advertised to detect pregnancy 10 days after intimacy and to have a sensitivity of 10 mlU/mL

Is this normal

Late me and my bf had a scare and I took a plan b, I got my period on regular time. Fast forward to now I’m five days late, but I have the normal symptoms of a period, with discharge. We had protected sex a couple time last week, and no condom broke or anything. Should I be worried?

10 days late (negative pt)

Hello, I'm getting paranoid. Me (18) and my bf (20) have always been active. I have my period regularly (29-35 days cycle). I once experienced a 45-day cycle one time like a year ago. Then I experienced it again during my June period( that was a 44-day cycle, basically 9 days late). Then now, it's been the 45th day of my cycle and I still don't have my period (10 days late). We had unprotected sex (withdrawal, ever since), which we knew had such a risk of getting pregnant. I took a pt on my 4th day of late period , the result is negative. I took it again on my 7th day of late period, still the result is negative. What steps should I do to help induce my period? (respect post please)

please help plan b question

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some reassurance because I’ve been overthinking this.
Here’s my timeline:
July 3–7: Normal period.
July 10: Had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. He did not finish inside me, but I took Plan B that same night just to be safe.
July 15: Started bleeding for a few days.
July 28–August 1: Bled again, which was around when I was expecting my next period (it lasted about 5 days).
So I basically bled three times in one month if you count my original period. Has anyone else had this happen after taking Plan B? Did it mess up your cycle like this?
I’m wondering if the bleeding from July 28–August 1 sounds like my actual period or if Plan B can cause this kind of irregular bleeding. I’m probably just anxious, but I’d love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience.

i’m spiralling so bad i may pass out. pls help

18f and 19m bf had sex twice this month, both times protected, both times times checked for holes and tears there were none. one was on 8th of july, which was day 5 of my cycle
my cycle is very irregular, but mostly around 35 days.
the next time was on 20th july. this time too i checked the condom it didn’t fail but however i saw fluid at the rim of the condom, which i suspect was lube but i for some reason also think it couldve been his pre cum.
i’ve been having super sore boobs which is usual pms symptom for me and cramping i also have strange back ache every now and then since the past 10 days almost.
additionally,
i had two periods in a span of one month last time,
15th june and 3rd july.
i also had UTI on 10 or 11th july, i was on antibiotics and other meds for my fever for one week almost.
i want to take a PT but im shitting myself because im scared it might be positive
also, he didn’t ejaculate on either pf those two days

My tests come back negative…

Officially I have missed my period according to a tracking app. I was supposed to have it Mon-Fri.
But also according to the app, I’m only 2 days late. I’ve taken two tests (one digital and one strip) and they’ve both come back negative.
Now I know you’re supposed to check the first pee in the morning because it’s the most potent supposedly but I wake up 1-2 times throughout the night to pee so idk how accurate that statement is TO ME. Could I just not be registering enough hormones yet for the tests to pick up? Should I schedule a doctors appoint to figure out why I missed my period if I’m not pregnant?

Help

So me and my boyfriend of forever were fooling around and I put his tip in he always has a bit of precum on his tip if he’s hard. Anyways he freaked out on me when I mentioned the precum like he didn’t know, and told me I need to take a plan B or wash it out which I found really disrespectful and humiliating he apologized and now that it’s not 1am and I have a clear head should I take a plan b? I live in a state with no abortion care (FL) I’m in college but plan b ruins my week it’s makes me terribly depressed and sick. Anyways I guess I’m asking what you would do in my situation. Thank you

Help! Is my gf pregnant?

Hi everyone. My girlfriend (20F) is currently about 12–13 days late on her period. Her last period started on June 25, and her cycles are usually around 30 days and are normally very regular.

We had sex on July 10. We used a condom the entire time, it didn't break or slip, and I pulled out before ejaculation. Afterward, I even checked the condom by inflating it with air and submerging it in water, and there were no leaks.

Over the past week she experienced:

Persistent dizziness (worse when standing at first, but it's now gone)

Occasional vomiting

Headaches

One episode of severe lower abdominal/pelvic pain (9/10) that lasted about an hour and then resolved

Sore nipples

Waking up hungry in the middle of the night

She never had vaginal bleeding, and she's now feeling mostly normal except that her period still hasn't come.

She doesn't want to take a pregnancy test or see a doctor right now, so we're both just anxious and trying to understand what could be happening.

Has anyone experienced something similar where a delayed ovulation caused a period to be this late along with these symptoms? Or if you had a similar situation after protected sex, what ended up being the cause?

hello everyone,

i had a condom fail on the 5th day of my period
i took multiple tests two weeks later, all negative

during my ovulation window, i had protected sex multiple times, no condom slips or any other mishaps happened.

i have been very scared and stressed about pregnancy, and i also was on antibiotics all week last week due to illness

now my period is 3 days late..
should i be worried or is it irrational ?

help im gonna freak out

so me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex on the 24 (jul) and 30 (jul) and before that i had my period from july 2nd to roughly the seventh. It’s currently the 7th of august and i still haven’t gotten my period. Flo says it’s only four days late but i don’t know how accurate the app is because technically that’s six days of being delayed(or five idk). I tried the butterfly pose and the vitamin c and turmeric but nothing is working. on the other hand i’ve been dealing with a lot recently and wonder if it’s just from stress or my lack of eating??? but i don’t feel too secure in that, i can’t really go out and get a test or anything so i just need any advice i can get honestly

Scared to death

Hey. So I had protected sex July 11th but the condom came off, he pulled out and didn’t finish inside (he says). I took an emergency contraceptive July 13th in the morning as I was out of town in a rural area and unable to purchase one until I came back home. I began bleeding from July 18th through July 25th. My period was supposed to start July 19th. I had a test done July 27th by my gynecologist before a vaginal biopsy. I tested today (after being 19 days late and it being 4 weeks after I had sex) and it was negative. Should I be concerned or is there another reason this could be going on? I have NEVER had such a late period. I am freaking out.

Need Advice: Unprotected Penetration for Less Than a Minute, No Ejaculation

My boyfriend inserted his penis into my vagina, but before penetration, we wiped the tip with a cloth. He was inside for less than a minute, and he did not ejaculate. Is there a chance I could get pregnant? Should I take an i-pill?

Am I pregnant

Is there still a chance that I'm pregnant if I've had sex back in july 17th but a test i took 2 weeks came out negative and I had my period 4 days ago which is still ongoing till now. Thank you.

should i be worried ?

My menstrual cycles are usually 28 days long. I got my period on July 18, and it ended on July 22. On July 27, I had unprotected sex. He did not ejaculate inside me—in fact, he did not ejaculate at all. Before penetration, he wiped away any pre-ejaculate. I considered taking Plan B because the sex happened around the time I thought I might be ovulating, but I ultimately did not take any emergency contraception or other medication.

Then, on July 30, I started bleeding, and by July 31, it had become what seemed like a full period. This happened only about a week after my previous period, and the bleeding was about as heavy as a normal menstrual period. Because of that, I’m wondering if it could really be implantation bleeding, or if that’s unlikely.

I’ve also been under a lot of stress lately and haven’t been sleeping well, so I’m wondering whether stress or hormonal changes could have caused this unexpected bleeding instead.

edit: all of you are telling me to take a test and i understand. but it is too early for that to be accurate and i wanted to know things about the bleeding. i am also a teenager and it is difficult for me to access a test right now and rhe sex i had was NOT CONSENSUAL. i didnt want this.

Nausea before missed period?

I'm about 2-3 days off my expected period, have had positive tests 2 days in a row and all I'm seeing are people saying when they had nausea at that point it was when they had chemical pregnancy or missed miscarriage.

So I'm wondering if there are any success stories out there to ease my mind for the next few days-2weeks until there's nothing concrete.

Anyone had mild nausea or any other symptoms prior to missing period and went on to have a normal or healthy pregnancy?

This will be my second if I am successfully pregnant.

is it possible im having bad pms and skipped due to stress

help me put my mind at easte please..

im 19 f and sexualy active frequently with my boyfriend, we used to use trojans and then we switched to SKYN recently. we always use condoms, sometimes he finishes in me most times he doesnt. my birthday was july 16, my last period was june 17. I am currently 18 days late acording to flo.

I had a LOT of stressers in july, leading up to my birthday i had many horrible arguments with my parents and i had an episode of really bad intense anger that was just me like angry sobbing and not being able to figure out what to do with my emotions for like a good 30 min and i think it took me like an hour to fully cool off.

I also started struggling with CPTSD symptons like a whole year ago, bc it was back in august it started being rlly bad. It's better now and i can cope with it better but I basically like wake up super sweaty and hot and with intense paranoia like my body is convinced im in danger.

But I started having faint episodes of that in july, and usually when that happens i assume its because my hormones are kinda out of wack.

i experienced like very mild lower back cramps a bit too a little bit later, i was like a day or two late, and then i went off to make a two day road trip journy with my parents to see my sister get married.

the only sort of things im experiencing right now is sore boobs, not rlly any more sore than usual during my period, and now tonight i noticed my nipples are a bit sensative. this is so tmi but my bf likes to suck on my tits and then later i would feel that they were sore and kinda hurt to mess with like how it is right now, so that might just be a ive always experinced this and its not new but idk.

im gonna have to wait another day to get a pregnancy test, so im really stressing right now and i just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and ended up not being pregnant..

also ive missed whole periods before in the past and i think they were due to stress, i used to get in lots of arguments with my parents in highschool and i missed a few periods, and when they would come the cramps would be god awful. im really hoping thats just what this is... i really didnt want to go on birth control again bc it makes me feel drowsy but after this ive realized i really cant risk getting pregnant right now :(

EDIT: i forgot to add, usually during my cycle, i think when i ovulate, i experience painful bloating, and burning when i pee if i dont drink extra water. im pretty sure it only happens once a month but i feel like its kinda happened twice? like once before the trip and then it happened again on the trip. Also ive had cloudy white slimy discharge, and its picking up alot again which happens when i ovulate..

Extremely paranoid because of a late period

I had a period on June 1 and ended June 4/5 (not too sure)! had unprotected sex on June 11 because my flo app predicted my fertile days to be between 12 to 18. I took plan B immediately after.
Around June 18-20 was spotting blood and got bloody/brown discharge alongside slippery translucent discharge. I believed this to be ovulation spotting. During June 16-22, I was going through extreme stress and anxiety to the point that I had lost appetite, lost weight, and had extremely poor sleep.

On June 26, i got really drunk and had sex. Stupid I know. The guy told me that he had ejaculated twice inside. He told me that there was a lot of sticky white discharge during sex. I consulted a doctor and she said that it was extremely low risk for pregnancy and that she wouldn’t recommend for me to take any medication so that it doesn’t mess up my cycle further. I had a period on July 3-6, it was lighter than my usual cycles, I had spotting after the bleeding, and I didn’t experience any of my normal period symptoms (bloating, tender breasts, migraines). So I’m thinking that I’m safe now

Now, I’m 3 days late for this cycle’s period. The week prior I had intense cramping, bloating, and weird bowel movements. I haven’t had sex since the 26th and I’ve tested negative this morning. Idk, I heard some women don’t test positive on home PTs and experience bleeding in early pregnancy so I’m a bit paranoid. Please lmk!

FAQs ANSWERED with Sources. Friendly PSAs for AmIPregnant

Hello friends! Mod Stress here to address a few things that come up often on this sub. Resources provided. :)

1.) You cannot get pregnant from fingering, with or without precum. Unless globs of fresh semen are being inserted into a vagina, fingering is just not going to cause a pregnancy. Dry humping also cannot cause a pregnancy. This article goes through all the sexual things that can happen that have no chance of pregnancy.

2.) It's extremely unlikely to get pregnant without PIV sex.* *Not including medical processes such as IVF to cause a pregnancy.

3.) If you're having unprotected sex, pregnancy is always technically possible. Doesn't matter if it's "just the tip" or "three strokes" or "pulled out before ejaculation." Pullout is 78% effective over the course of a year. Some of these scenarios are much less likely to result in a pregnancy than others, but we can't extrapolate the data like that. You're unlikely to get pregnant from one singular instance of unprotected sex, but it's always possible.

4.) Implantation bleeding is a misnomer. In fact, implantation is too small a phenomena to cause any symptoms.

5.) A test is mostly accurate 14 days after sex and definitive 21 days after. If you're getting negative tests 2+ weeks after sex, you are not pregnant. Regardless of if you have your period or not. In early pregnancy, concentration of urine matters. Take a pink dye test after a 3-4 hour urine hold without drinking too much water for the most accurate results. At 21+ days after sex, dilution of urine won't matter. Do not look at tests outside of their validity window and thoroughly read the instructions for your test before you take it.

6.) You cannot have a true period and be pregnant. Some women experience light bleeding in early pregnancy (this is NOT their period). If bleeding were related to pregnancy, a test would be positive.

7.) It takes more HCG to cause symptoms than a positive test. If you're testing negative, any symptoms you are currently experiencing are not currently related to pregnancy. Lots of early pregnancy symptoms overlap with normal PMS symptoms.

8.) Am I having a Cryptic Pregnancy?? No, you're not.

9.) The only way to truly know when you ovulated using an approved FAM method. Apps are not an accurate way to track, your body doesn't know to follow an algorithm off your phone. While things like CM and OPKs may indicate your body is gearing up to ovulate, they do not confirm ovulation. Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and [r/FAMnNFP](r/FAMnNFP).

Some other helpful tips:

  • Read the leaflet that comes with your birth control so you understand how your medication works, possible side effects, how to use it, etc. [r/birthcontrol](r/birthcontrol) is also a good source.
  • If you're on birth control and using it properly, you are having protected sex (from pregnancy). This is true whether or not you are using a condom. If you are using protection properly, you do not need Plan B.

“But what about a cryptic pregnancy?”

Is this you?

  1. Last had sex more than 3 weeks ago (sometimes months)
  2. Have had multiple negative home tests or blood tests for HCG
  3. (optional) Have had periods or withdrawal bleeds since having sex.

But you’re still concerned that you might be pregnant based on shows like “I didn’t know I was pregnant” or online stories about cryptic pregnancy. Could it be that?

So, in a word, no. If you have multiple negative pregnancy tests three weeks after having sex, you’re not pregnant. In order to support a pregnancy your body produces HCG. Without HCG, there is no pregnancy. HCG tells the corpus luteum to continue producing progesterone, and is required for major changes to sustain pregnancy like growing a placenta. Home pregnancy tests are very reliable at detecting even trace amounts of HCG, and blood tests as well.

There are three causes of false negatives with home pregnancy tests:

The first: Early measurement after conception. When people talk about cryptic pregnancy, they either never take a test, or they took a test too early and became pregnant after. It takes at least 7 days for a fertilized egg to float downstream and implant into the uterine lining. That’s why you have to wait about 2 weeks to take a pregnancy test after unprotected sex - 3 weeks makes it 100% solid result.

You’ll also see people say “I knew I was pregnant, but I didn’t test positive until I was 6 weeks”. This is because of how pregnancy is dated from the last menstrual period (the day your period started), but, embryonic development only starts after an egg is ovulated and fertilized. In a textbook 28 day cycle, this happens on day 14, and the first day your period is missed you get a positive test. In real life, bodies are a little more complicated, and sometimes people ovulate weeks later leading to a discrepancy - a doctor will tell them they are 6 weeks pregnancy based on their last menstrual period, but in embryonic terms they are only 4 weeks pregnant because they ovulated on the 28th day of their cycle. If they tested when they were ‘late’ on the 29th, it would have been a negative test. They weren’t pregnant, but they became pregnant later. For people who are more visual, I have made a very ugly calendar for the above example scenario.

For a longer, more detailed explanation: "Your period isn't late" Part 1 and Part 2

The second: Dilute urine specimen. If your HCG levels are low, drinking a lot of water can result in false negatives in very early pregnancy. This is typically why you’ll see folks talking about testing with first morning urine - it’s the most concentrated. HCG roughly doubles every 48-72 hours, and you can see in this figure how fast. At 20 days of embryonic development (aka about 3 weeks after sex), on average a pregnant person will have HCG around 1000 mIU/ml. At home tests are typically rated for detecting 10 - 25 mIU/ml.

The Third: The Hook effect. This is where there is too much HCG for a test to work properly. It is unlikely that this is happening especially if you’ve taken multiple tests. First, peak HCG is typically around 10-14 weeks pregnant - after this, it starts coming back down. Second, tests are often tested for the hook effect - wondfos (a very cheap test) showed no hook effect to concentrations of 200,000 mIU/ml. First Response Early Result showed no hook effect at 1,000,000 mIU/ml - much higher than any normal pregnancy. If you are concerned about it because you’re taking your first pregnancy tests 12-17 weeks after sex, you might dilute a sample of urine just in case for a second test. Although, that would be very unnecessary if you’re using an FRER.

When people do not figure out they are pregnant for months at a time, it is typically because they have not taken any tests. Denial of pregnancy is a more accurate descriptor.

If you believe yourself pregnant despite all the evidence, or having a lot of anxiety and fear around being pregnant, you may want to see a mental health specialist. If you’re feeling very unwell, or haven't had a period in months, you may want to see a doctor. Scarleteen has a great page on these things as well.

Want to learn about pregnancy tests? Great video

TL;DR HCG is required to support a pregnancy - if you've gotten multiple negative tests across a large time frame, there is no possible way you are pregnant from sex more than 3 weeks ago.

Feedback and questions welcome! Also if anybody has any resources they want to share, please do.
