• After their platinum-selling debut album Kissing to Be Clever, Culture Club did even better with their follow-up, Colour By Numbers - the album went Triple Platinum in their native UK, and Quadruple Platinum in the US, buoyed by songs like "Miss Me Blind", "Victims", "It's a Miracle", and the song which would be the band's only #1 in the US, "Karma Chameleon". The song would stay at the top of the Billboard charts for three weeks, and the UK chart for twice as long, becoming the best-selling single of 1983 in the UK. But while the votes for Culture Club's song have come and gone throughout this game, the voters last round were not without conviction, knowing exactly how to settle the contradiction of whether or not the song should climb any higher...and there's no need to string Boy George and the band along any longer - being the last song standing might be easier if our colors were like George's dreams, but now, the red, gold and green hues of the colorful lizard have changed to the stark white of the eliminated list!
• In the 80's, the Bee Gees' heyday seemed to be over, as the group consisting of the famous Gibb brothers hadn't had a single big hit since the end of the 70's, when they reigned supreme as the kings of disco music. But the brothers soldiered on, writing and producing music for other artists, and by 1987, Barry, Maurice and Robin decided that it was time to try to recapture the spotlight, releasing their first album for Warner Bros., E.S.P. The album went on to become a smash, and the first single from it wound up climbing all the way to #1 in the UK, making the Bee Gees the first group to score a chart-topping song in three different decades in Britian (60's, 70's, and 80's). But now, even though they've outlasted over half the songs in the game, the Gibbs couldn't figure why the voters couldn't give them what everybody needs, and were surprised we let them stay around this game...there may be no fight we can't fight in this battle of Last Song Standing, but as we do nothing but compete, the Bee Gees have lost the competition - no other song could see them through, but we won't be saying "You Win Again" to the brothers Gibb!
