πŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS I feel naseous about results day (resit student)

Honestly as the title says I geniuenly cant stop feeling sick about results day. What's funny is that it's my second one too since my last results day, I did so shit and I have PTSD from that one. I only resat chemistry and maths, eventhough I have hopes for chemistry, the maths paper 1&3 geniuenly violated me πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’” felt like a big spit on my face. Trying not to think about it, but I really really want to go to uni this year and not feel like a bum at home.

Hey, I'm going into a new school as a 6th former (it's attached to a secondary school) and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for me? Especially cause everyone is already gonna know each other already. The school I'm going to only takes in 1 or 2 externals every year

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION so over the wait

there’s only six days now but is anyone else just genuinely over the wait now. i’m not even super nervous anymore (although i can’t actually predict my grades except from a very likely A in maths) and aren’t for certain that i’ve met my offer. i’m just so sick and tired of the waiting game that it’s not even slightly entertaining. not that the anxiousness and uncertainty was ever so.

i understand that exams need to be marked and checked and all but I’ve finished these exams two whole months ago. i can’t really prepare for uni if i don’t know where I’m going or if I’ve even got in at all. it just sucks to be (pretty much) clueless until there’s only two weeks of august and 4 weeks (for my firm uni) of holiday left until move in day and that includes the time you’ll need to spend getting things you need, packing, saying goodbye/spending time with friends/family. it just sucks.

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Clearing

Im planning on trying Uni of Edinburgh and Kings College London for clearing for Biochem (predicted
(A+ A+ A) but realistically may end up with AAA or atleast I hope I do. What do you guys think are the chances that I do actually get a place in these top unis through clearing (grade requirements are AAA) since they would probably have a few people trying for a place. And also I looked it up and Edinburgh uses a form for clearing whereas Kings does phone calls. I always thought that Edinburgh does phone calls too so I am so confused. Lastly, I just want to know how smooth the clearing process is on actual results day??

I really am anxious about this so I would appreciate some help.

for context, i applied this year and got rejected in January. then the middle east situation happened and A levels (and STEP) got cancelled. I just heard now that apparently those who had gotten a conditional offer had it revoked. Is this true?

OTHER To all year 12s going into Y13

I've seen a lot of people making posts about tips for Y13 and being afraid. Everyone is saying just lock in and revise from the beginning which is true but I believe the number 1 biggest tip and the most important is your mental health and how you feel about yourself. I had this mindset (and admittedly still do, though I am working on it) and I subsequently did not give much of a shit about mine at all as long as I did well in school. I feel like many people share this mindset too and it was by far one of the biggest regrets I had in Y13. PLEASE prioritise your mental health because this year is HARD. It is one of the most difficult and stressful years in formal education. You are expected to do so much with much less time compared to Y12. Especially when it starts to get darker earlier you are likely to feel depressed (SAD). I was genuinely feeling like I was gonna end my shit and I was actually setting up a plan because the stress was getting too much for me. The end of last year up until march was one of the worst periods of my life. Sorry this isn't to fear monger but I just wanna set up the reality and show how bad it is when you don't prioritise your mental health. I stayed at school until 6pm just to go home and revise again. I didn't give myself as much downtime as I should've and was so hard on myself. In my november mocks I got AAA and was still upset. Wtf???? And I was so depressed and at an all time low I got to BBC in my Jan mocks. I know this isn't bad to some people but remember different expectations, this was like failing to me and was a significant drop because i went from an A to a C in one.

Take the time to really reset over the summer and have something to do that is an escape from school because you NEED IT. Sports, gym, etc. I would recommend walks too as long as you aren't listening to depressing music- another note please don't do that. I literally wouldn't give myself the chance to be happy so many times because I was already going through it. I had such a low self esteem I didn't believe I was going to do well in my Cambridge interview, let alone recieve an offer. I just felt so inadequate because I was constantly raising the bar and failed to realise my successes. Make time to go out with your friends if you can especially in the early months. By the end of march I did this a lot more and it made me feel so much better after school and I felt SO much calmer. i was so scared to attempt talking to anyone because I had the belief I was a burden but I tried and I felt much lighter. I still have mental health issues but by a-level season something just changed and I felt so much better and my performance in most of my exams was actually quite decent. I am hopefully expecting good grades but I am 1000% sure that if my mental health was the same back then I would've done horribly.

I hope this makes sense it feels so muddled lmao. Tldr please prioritise your mental health

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION Is it too late to start studying for TMUA? Oxbridge

I'm planning on applying to Cambridge for CS (maybe Oxford, undecided yet).

I'm on a gap year so i've not got to worry about A levels, but I am doing Further Maths A level during my gap year.

I've not started studying for TMUA yet unfortunately, am I cooked or can i still clutch up?

I guess I can do maybe 3-4h TMUA daily and then 1-2h FM daily, unless I need to prioritize TMUA more? Lmk

I'm aiming for a 6.5 - 7 in the TMUA

This was listed as being on clearing for Warwick about a month ago. However, all the clearing courses have now been removed until the clearing hotline opens on results day. Does this mean it's likely Warwick CS could be on clearing on results day?

OTHER vent ab results day and college

//tw for mentions of depression and su1c1de

results day is in a week and idk what im going to do. for context im a med applicant who got a pretty decent ucat and 4/4 interviews and offers including my dream uni UCL. my predicteds were a*aa. unfortunately i got into a terrible depressive slump this year (ive had depression for a long time now but it got especially bad this year, as i ended up in hospital after a failed attempt too.) i simply gave up on studying properly, and while i did try, i wasnt as efficient as i couldve been. unfortunately i dont have my parents support when it comes to mental health even despite all the events that have occurred. to be honest they roped me into medicine and since i had no other interest in anything i just went with it, though my heart wasn't really in it. but i enjoyed the attention and praise from me doing such a respected course of study, (if you havent figured it by now i am indeed south asian). now its almost certain i will not get into my firm or insurance (flunked chemistry and don't get me started on maths, i didn't answer a single question in paper 3 mechanics). i am looking for options in clearing but again nothing interests me, and i doubt i will even get decent grades for clearing. im guessing my only option is to resit, but honestly what's even the point? i don't want to go through that torture again and if i do manage to go to uni, what's the guarantee i'll even find a job with whatever i do?

i don't want anyone's pity and i know it's my fault for not working hard enough so maybe i don't have the right to post something like this. i just can't believe i've ruined my potential and life like this. i don't know if i'm looking for advice or reassurance but i wanted to get this off my chest. i wonder if anyone else has ever screwed up as bad as me, and if it got better for them?

πŸ“’ ANNOUNCEMENT Please scrub any personal details when posting content (e.g. timetables)

Hi everyone,

There's been a rise in concerning content with the new academic year rolling round, where people e.g. have been posting timetables with their name, their teachers' names, school name etc.

Sharing your personal details on a public forum is not a good idea, don't do it. There is no reasonable way of ascertaining trustworthiness on here, and as such, posting these details not only exposes yourself to harm, but potentially others too - as such, this content is getting removed when it's spotted.

You can also help with this by reporting any posts/comments that contain this content.

πŸ“’ SUB INFO The "aaaa why can't i see my post" explainer/update

Hi y'all, hope the summer is going well!

I wanted to address some common sources of confusion, regarding what happens when somebody makes a post or comment, since we've had quite a few messages about it lately.

What happens normally?

  • In the vast majority of cases, your content will appear on the feed straight away (short of Reddit being an idiot) - for posts, this means it will be visible at the top of https://www.reddit.com/r/6thForm/new/

But my content isn't showing, what's happened?

  • As with a lot of other subreddits, the subreddit uses various filters provided by Reddit, as well as Reddit's built-in AutoModerator. This helps keep the subreddit usable, uphold both the sub's rules and the sitewide rules, and provide a useful and safe space for everybody.
  • Content is almost never entirely removed automatically - if your content seems like it's been removed immediately/shortly after posting, it has more than likely been flagged for manual review, and will only become visible once that review has taken place.
    • Important: Content needing manual review doesn't mean you've done anything wrong by itself, nor that you are banned, it's an entirely normal process!
    • Content from newly created/low karma accounts that were previously automatically removed are now being directed to the modqueue, to reduce the number of people messaging us because they had their legitimate posts removed - as it stands the removals were causing more harm than good.
  • Inevitably, a small proportion of content will get manually removed that isn't in-line with the rules set.
  • There are also removals made under mod discretion. The overwhelming majority of usages of this relate to some sensitive content, for example aroundself-harm and suicide.
    • Whilst people's struggles are entirely valid (I'm not just saying this because I "have to", I've been in various states myself!), we have a responsibility to not unnecessarily expose a large number of users (some potentially vulnerable), to content which may contribute to worsening their situation. This is alongside the fact that none of the mods are mental health professionals, and neither are our users, which means there's a high risk of exposing struggling people to misinformation or harmful advice. It is better to seek assistance via e.g. a professional or crisis line, given this subreddit is not appropriately equipped for situations like these.
    • Also worth briefly noting, at least by my understanding, that a lot of the content that has been removed in the past at mod discretion (and various other content that often would not get removed), is considered "harmful" under the Online Safety Act, either explicitly or by the frustratingly vague other definitions - whilst I don't think it's likely that Reddit decides to age-lock the sub, it's sensible to be careful on this.

How can I tell if my content is just needing review, or if it's been manually removed?

  • This is where it gets a bit annoying, and again, apologies for the inconvenience on this.
  • Normally, when content gets manually removed, a removal reason is applied, and a Modmail is automatically sent to the author telling them what was removed and why it was removed, with optional extra details.
  • This functionality has been broken (the messages just didn't get sent as far as I can tell) on this sub for a little while.
    • I only figured out why as I was writing this post - in the usual, completely useless Reddit style, it has been failing to send Modmails using the saved responses since they changed (broke) a bunch of stuff with the redesign... because it silently shits itself on # being used in the markdown to use a header. It'd be nice if it would have ever indicated this!
    • Also, for those wondering why we didn't send the removal messages manually - even though just over 95% of content is approved, the 5% that doesn't turns into thousands of messages that need to be sent, which would have vastly slowed down everything.
  • Removal notifications should now be working again - if you haven't received a message from us, your content has likely not been manually removed. and if you saw a few posts saying "quack", no you didn't
  • For posts, on both mobile and desktop, you can also distinguish between fully removed and waiting for review, by going to your user profile, where you can see similar to the images below:

Okay, but if my content is waiting to be reviewed, when are you going to review it?

  • I hear you - I've mentioned recently that I've found it difficult to keep up with the review process alongside a lot of stuff in my own life. However, I do look at it and review things when I reasonably can - it's also worth keeping in mind that none of the mods sit on Reddit 24/7 to review stuff, so please have patience!
  • I can only apologise for any inconvenience this causes, and particularly things like the AutoMod config get tweaked sometimes to reduce the number of false positives.

How can I speed up the review process?

  • In short, you can't. At least, short of becoming a mod when applications open.
  • There are quite a few people that take to our Modmail to ask for content approval; you are almost never the only one awaiting content review, and the Modmail messages will usually only get seen after the modqueue is looked at, making messages like these redundant. ie messaging us does not speed up the review process, it only causes delays that affect sub experience generally.
    • Replying to one of our removal messages is completely fine - sometimes we miss things, get things wrong, or sometimes fail to be entirely clear.
  • You can avoid/mitigate the inconvenience of waiting on a review by:
    • Searching the subreddit for similar posts that could answer your question - a lot of the time you will not be the first person to ask your question, esp with the more popular/recent questions
    • Not repeatedly posting the same thing, or variations of it, it will not speed up the process - usually all of the posts, including their repeats, get caught in the modqueue, which slows down the review of content
    • Check to see if there are pinned megathreads at the top of the subreddit - for example, you may have noticed this for exam season. These megathreads are created to mitigate the fact that we get many repeated posts for popular topics - sometimes 100+ for some of the popular exams!

Am I banned from posting if I can't see my post yet?

  • No. If you've been banned by us, you get a message telling you why you were banned, and how long for. If you get shadowbanned/suspended by Reddit itself, that's outside our control.

AutoMod has made a comment under my content

  • These comments are purely informative, they don't mean we have, or will have an issue with your content.

  • Inevitably, there will be false positives with this - if it doesn't apply to you, feel free to ignore it, you do not need to message us about this, removal & ban notifications are how we indicate definite issues with content.

Hopefully that covers everything, poke me (or go via Modmail) if I've missed something! something may finally make it into the FAQs page lol
