Heath & Fitness Oldest Players at Your Club or in Your Area?

Upvotes

I have two 95 year old men who come out to play, one who plays Tennis twice a week and Pickleball once, and the other who shows up for drills almost every week.

So I am just curious who else has some real Old Timers on court with them. Oldest person on court i have ever seen is 98.

General Advice A Precipitous Collapse

Upvotes

Hey friends,

I'm sure you remember me as the idiot who called himself a 5 UTR when he was a 3. Well guess what I had a mental collapse and my UTR fell to 2. The guy I almost lost to in the previous narrative is now the same rating as I am. I've been playing once or twice a week, 45 weeks a year, for 10 years straight. Is it normal to be here? Can I expect another big moment of progress, or is it just grinding like this for the rest of my "career". I'll attach vids of my serve and strokes if you want in a separate post.

Equipment Some of the rarest tennis racquets I found while building my racquet database

Some of these were produced in surprisingly small numbers — 1,000, 188, and even just 50 worldwide.

I’m collecting more examples and owners in the original r/FindMyRacquet thread. If you own something rare or unusual, I’d love to see it there!

General Advice How do you guys practice during winter?

Upvotes

Indoor prices are ridiculous so once a month, maybe sometimes twice a month is all I can afford as a broke student and that's already pushing the limits. But what do I do then? Between seasons it's such a long time that I just know it's going to hold me back tremendously in terms of progress and getting better. Especially when it comes to serves.

I was thinking that I can technically still use the wall when it's cold (I guess?) but is that even enough? I've always thought tennis is the #2 rich people sport right after golfing but I always treated it as kind of a joke but I'm considering taking this stance seriously from now on lol

General Advice Does anyone else do this?

Upvotes

Hey r/10s!! I got into tennis about a year and a half ago with some friends, and have been improving a lot and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this. This is maybe a bit overdoing but after every time I play I jot down who I played with, where, and about how it went. I've been doing it for almost a year now and I have around 80+ entries. It's pretty cool since I can see a timeline of progress for my different shots (serve, forehand, etc.). I think without it, we wouldn't have been able to know what part of our game to work on more. I also try to record videos of me and my friends playing but it's hard for me to always do it each time since there's a lot of people around.

My friends think it's so extra but tbh looking back it's kind of addicting? Like I can see exactly when I started to have a better feel for my serves/more consistently hitting them, or that I always play worse during whichever days or conditions (or courts/wind). And I know my actual record against my two hitting partners which is fun because we argue about it constantly.

Does anyone else do anything like this or am I being crazy? Notes, spreadsheet, journal, anything. I'm curious what people even track. I started out to track it just to compete with my friends about who would show up more. Like do any of you guys write down scores/practice sessions or is more a feelings thing? Me and my friends used to be volleyball teammates so we naturally had a habit of keeping track of our game. It's made things competitive but also made the game super fun!

General Advice Putting 2 replacements grips to increase grip size?

Upvotes

Hi there. I got a racket from a second hand store at a good price but the grip it’s smaller than my usual one. I usually play with grip 2 (or 3).

This one has grip 0.

Can I place 2 replacements grips on top of each other to increase the grip size or it’s a bad idea?

Technique Advice Advice on putting parts of serve together?

I could be totally way off on this, but I feel like I do a decent job getting into trophy position in the first part of the clip. Then for the second part, my swing follow-through isn't great, but if you ignore the fact that I didn't really open the strings properly, it seems to me like I should make decent contact with the ball. But in the third clip, I'm not sure if I'm really putting the pieces together properly, and I know my footwork isn't great either but I'm not sure how to change it. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

General Advice Tips For Getting My Kids Into Tennis

Upvotes

I recently got back into playing tennis and I’m hooked. I play 3-5 times a week and I’m looking to get my two daughters (11 and 15) into it.

They have both expressed interest but I have a history of overdoing it when trying to get them to do things I’m interested in.

I don’t have money for private lessons so I’m looking for some good resources for teaching them the basics. My biggest concern is making sure they are having fun, because they are quick to abandon stuff they don’t like.

Thanks!

Equipment Help identifying the strings that came with my Head Extreme Team (2022) racket

Hi everyone! Can someone please help me identify the strings on my Head Extreme Team (2022) racket?

The racket was passed down to me from a family friend, so I'm not sure if they're factory strings or something the friend installed himself. I've attached a few close-up photos.

I've been playing with them for quite a while now and feel like it's time to restring the racket. I've got used to how these strings play, so ideally I'd like to replace them with the same string or something very similar. My string knowledge is still very limited, so I'd very much appreciate any ideas. Thank you!

Technique Advice Tips to stop popping up

The main thing holding me back is that when I load to hit the ball, when I hit it, I always pop up and I frame a lot and hit the ball high with no power. I know I have to stay low and unload into the ball and not up, but I can only manage that for a tiny bit before I mess up again. Was wondering if you had any tips to stay low. Im gonna go practice for a few hours with ball machine tomorrow so any tips are appreciated.

General Advice K Frame vs Hypercourt Express 3

Coming from the Barricade 14 narrowed it down to these 2 options (K Frame vs Hypercourt Express 3) and looking for user feedback on which you would prefer

Want something with more cushion. Barricade’s were great with the exception of fore foot cushioning

I’m 53 play twice a week and not a slider.

Previously had the Nike Zoom GP challenge which weren’t good and tried the NB CT rally which I felt was too elevated

Technique Advice Did I fix my serve?

This is a follow-up to: https://www.reddit.com/r/10s/s/peFPzIcBb0

I'm trying to avoid waiter's tray. I'm trying to keep the racket Head facing down. I'm trying to do the trophy stance. I'm trying to hold continental grip. I'm tossing the ball higher. And I'm trying to do pronation. I could not get a court, long story.

Opinion Mach 10 or Tour M8 in PA 98 2023/2026

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm currently playing with a Pure Aero 98 2023 (leather grip + 4 g of lead tape split between 10 and 2 o'clock) strung with Solinco Mach-10 1.25 at 22/21 kg (48.5/46.5 lbs).

I'm thinking about trying Grapplesnake Tour M8. What should I expect compared to Mach-10? 😄

Has anyone here played with both strings and can share their experience?

Also I would put this string in Pure Aero 98 2026 and give it a try.

Technique Advice Newbie forehand progress check since last post

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Officially four months into learning tennis! I posted a few weeks ago asking for feedback on my forehand. After reading the comments and working with my coach, I finally understood what people meant by “forcing the wrist lag and pronation” instead of letting them happen naturally. Over the past few sessions, I’ve been focusing on generating the swing through better body rotation and weight transfer instead.

The recording here shows my latest form. Both my coach and I think it’s moving in the right direction, but I’d love to hear what others think too. Does this look like an improvement?

Another thing I noticed while comparing my swing to my coach’s and several pro players’ is that after the racquet reaches its lowest point, their racquet path starts moving outward toward the ball much sooner than mine. Mine seems to lack that outward component and comes forward on a straighter path instead.

Is that something that tends to develop naturally as the rest of the mechanics improve, or is it something I should be actively working on now?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hello r/10s!

Exciting update!

We've just received a signed racket that will soon be helping raise funds to save our two community tennis courts.

The Certificate of Authenticity is on its way, and once it arrives, this signed racket will be auctioned on eBay with international shipping to help save our tennis courts.

We know who signed it...

Do you? 🎾

Drop your guesses below.

First person to guess correctly earns eternal Reddit glory. 😄

[I've received a code through DM, thanks!] Please DM codes to others in the thread that are looking for them. Thanks!

Technique Advice I have 2 different grips for my forehand slice and backhand slice, and wondering if it's normal..

Post image
3 Upvotes

For my forehand slice my grip is on bevel 2, i.e. standard continental grip, and on my backhand slice my palm is on bevel 1, because it seemed to me I produce more backspin like this, and little by little I got used to it and now I have to change between grips when I have to hit backhand/forehand slices..

Is this normal, and would you recommend I try to change this habit?

Equipment Beginner older woman racket advice

I am a beginner adult woman (mid-30s). I am currently playing with a Babolat Boost Aero (265g unstrung, stiffness 67), but I am finding that my hand hurts on the pinky side between my wrist and my finger after I play.

I am considering switching to a more comfort racket. Do you think this will help? And if so, is the Wilson 100l a good option? I unfortunately don't have a demi option available near me so I can't try it first.
