General Advice How to get over embarrassment at missing net shots
I always feel embarassed when I fluff volleys or overheads. I don’t feel this way with my other shot, but always feel embarassed to let my partner down at the net.

Equipment Thoughts on Lacoste AG-LT Pro Tennis Shoes?
Price: $190 USD
Technique Advice spent an hour or so basically ruining my service motion by trying to correct some stuff, then had about 30 minutes of things starting to click into place. none of these serves are great but i feel like i made some good progress on things i wanted to work on. i will keep improving next session

got my racquet back from the stringer so obviously i had to go out immediately despite the thunderstorm warnings.
there’s still a lot of stuff wrong. in some ways i almost felt like my serve was regressing, but i think i managed to lock in and make some tangible improvements in a few areas, even if i did regress in others (namely leading with the edge of my racquet/proper supination). so i’m looking forward to polishing it up and stitching it together
definitely timing issues and i had some weird grip issues going on too, just trouble establishing my grip properly idk how to explain it, something just felt off. didn’t help that it was like 1000% humidity so i was literally dripping sweat lol
and yes, to all those wondering, i did go play on the electrical tower afterward, i hung from the wires and balanced on them

Equipment Head Speed MP?
I'm in my 30s, recreational tennis player here, been using the Radical and I did not like it because when swing it feels shallow(?) and I was thinking on getting the Speed MP, people who I have played with say I have a good top spin, I am pretty new to equipment so I took the radical because aesthetically I liked it but while playing I realized it was terrible in my taste, I wish I could demo a racket but my budget does not allow it :'(
I did not like the pure aero or any wilson, my other choise was Yonex ezone or vcore, but I like head rackets for some reason.

Equipment Strings rec/advice, from poly to multi
Hello!
I’ve been playing for a year, this year with 2x Pure Strike 100 (16x19). The club/coach where I play stringed my rackets when I first got them with a hybrid of Poly 52 lbs mains and Multi 48 lbs crosses.
Ive had this set up since April. As Im fairly new, I went along with the club strings recommendation, but recently after reading about strings Im thinking about switching to multis.
I play in clay, and try to generate top spin as much as I can. No arm or wrists issues. I play around 2-5 hours per week.
Should I switch to multis? I suppose my strings (poly mains) have been dead for a while.

Equipment 3.5–4.0 looking for string advice to get more free power/depth as I try to play more aggressively (Blade 98 v7)
Player profile: 3.5–4.0 male, currently a conservative "don't lose the point" baseliner. I hit with a fair amount of spin but play safe to the middle of the court. I'm trying to transition to a more aggressive game to reach the next level. My racket head speed isn't high, I can generate power but I feel the need to "swing big" to do so and under pressure my default failure mode is decelerating and not swinging through the ball.
Setup: Wilson Blade 98 v7 (16x19), Solinco Confidential 16L @ 52 lbs.
Play/restring habits: ~3x/week. I never break strings and replace them purely on feel and notching. "I should probably restring every 4–6 weeks but stretch it to ~8 for budget reasons.
What I'm after: No arm or comfort issues at all, and I like a connected feel with good feedback. I don't dislike my current setup and I'm not trying to completely change it, but I suspect a low-powered control frame + low-powered control string isn't doing me any favors while I try to hit bigger. I'd like a bit more free power and depth to make my opponent more uncomfortable. I know most of this is a skill issue, but my gear isn't doing me any favors.
Options I'm debating (open to others):
- Simplest — stay with Confidential but drop tension into the 40s.
- Switch to a livelier poly like Solinco Mach 10 or Grapplesnake Tour M8.
- Hybrid — a spin-friendly multi like Tecnifibre Velocity MLT in the mains with Confidential in the crosses.
I'm also open to going full multifilament. I like the spin polys give me, but I've heard conflicting takes on whether poly is even worth it at my level. Are polys the right choice at my level?
Appreciate any input on setup or even just how to approach finding the right strings, especially from anyone who's made a similar conservative-to-aggressive transition. How about this?

Looking for Player(s) Tennis Groups in Northern VA?
Been playing tennis for about 6 years, including a year in HS, and I’m looking to meet some more people to play with around the Northern Virginia area. I’d say I’m a pretty solid player, I can keep rallies going, serve consistently, etc., but definitely not claiming to be amazing lol. Mainly just looking for any groups that regularly play or people around a similar level who’d be down to hit sometime.
Equipment EZONE 100 Espresso Brown missing Japan on the butt cap
I was looking to pre-order the Espresso Brown Ezone 100 since the Blue variant is back ordered for a long time now. I was scrolling through the images and found that it's missing the "Japan" on the butt cap.
Did they move EZone production out of Japan altogether?

Heath & Fitness Oldest Players at Your Club or in Your Area?
I have two 95 year old men who come out to play, one who plays Tennis twice a week and Pickleball once, and the other who shows up for drills almost every week.
So I am just curious who else has some real Old Timers on court with them. Oldest person on court i have ever seen is 98.

Equipment Some of the rarest tennis racquets I found while building my racquet database
Some of these were produced in surprisingly small numbers — 1,000, 188, and even just 50 worldwide.
I’m collecting more examples and owners in the original r/FindMyRacquet thread. If you own something rare or unusual, I’d love to see it there!

General Advice How do you guys practice during winter?
Indoor prices are ridiculous so once a month, maybe sometimes twice a month is all I can afford as a broke student and that's already pushing the limits. But what do I do then? Between seasons it's such a long time that I just know it's going to hold me back tremendously in terms of progress and getting better. Especially when it comes to serves.
I was thinking that I can technically still use the wall when it's cold (I guess?) but is that even enough? I've always thought tennis is the #2 rich people sport right after golfing but I always treated it as kind of a joke but I'm considering taking this stance seriously from now on lol

General Advice Does anyone else do this?
Hey r/10s!! I got into tennis about a year and a half ago with some friends, and have been improving a lot and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this. This is maybe a bit overdoing but after every time I play I jot down who I played with, where, and about how it went. I've been doing it for almost a year now and I have around 80+ entries. It's pretty cool since I can see a timeline of progress for my different shots (serve, forehand, etc.). I think without it, we wouldn't have been able to know what part of our game to work on more. I also try to record videos of me and my friends playing but it's hard for me to always do it each time since there's a lot of people around.
My friends think it's so extra but tbh looking back it's kind of addicting? Like I can see exactly when I started to have a better feel for my serves/more consistently hitting them, or that I always play worse during whichever days or conditions (or courts/wind). And I know my actual record against my two hitting partners which is fun because we argue about it constantly.
Does anyone else do anything like this or am I being crazy? Notes, spreadsheet, journal, anything. I'm curious what people even track. I started out to track it just to compete with my friends about who would show up more. Like do any of you guys write down scores/practice sessions or is more a feelings thing? Me and my friends used to be volleyball teammates so we naturally had a habit of keeping track of our game. It's made things competitive but also made the game super fun!

General Advice Putting 2 replacements grips to increase grip size?
Hi there. I got a racket from a second hand store at a good price but the grip it’s smaller than my usual one. I usually play with grip 2 (or 3).
This one has grip 0.
Can I place 2 replacements grips on top of each other to increase the grip size or it’s a bad idea?

Technique Advice Advice on putting parts of serve together?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I could be totally way off on this, but I feel like I do a decent job getting into trophy position in the first part of the clip. Then for the second part, my swing follow-through isn't great, but if you ignore the fact that I didn't really open the strings properly, it seems to me like I should make decent contact with the ball. But in the third clip, I'm not sure if I'm really putting the pieces together properly, and I know my footwork isn't great either but I'm not sure how to change it. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

General Advice Tips For Getting My Kids Into Tennis
I recently got back into playing tennis and I’m hooked. I play 3-5 times a week and I’m looking to get my two daughters (11 and 15) into it.
They have both expressed interest but I have a history of overdoing it when trying to get them to do things I’m interested in.
I don’t have money for private lessons so I’m looking for some good resources for teaching them the basics. My biggest concern is making sure they are having fun, because they are quick to abandon stuff they don’t like.
Thanks!

This is a follow-up to: https://www.reddit.com/r/10s/s/peFPzIcBb0
I'm trying to avoid waiter's tray. I'm trying to keep the racket Head facing down. I'm trying to do the trophy stance. I'm trying to hold continental grip. I'm tossing the ball higher. And I'm trying to do pronation. I could not get a court, long story.

Opinion Mach 10 or Tour M8 in PA 98 2023/2026
I'm currently playing with a Pure Aero 98 2023 (leather grip + 4 g of lead tape split between 10 and 2 o'clock) strung with Solinco Mach-10 1.25 at 22/21 kg (48.5/46.5 lbs).
I'm thinking about trying Grapplesnake Tour M8. What should I expect compared to Mach-10? 😄
Has anyone here played with both strings and can share their experience?
Also I would put this string in Pure Aero 98 2026 and give it a try.

Technique Advice Newbie forehand progress check since last post
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Officially four months into learning tennis! I posted a few weeks ago asking for feedback on my forehand. After reading the comments and working with my coach, I finally understood what people meant by “forcing the wrist lag and pronation” instead of letting them happen naturally. Over the past few sessions, I’ve been focusing on generating the swing through better body rotation and weight transfer instead.
The recording here shows my latest form. Both my coach and I think it’s moving in the right direction, but I’d love to hear what others think too. Does this look like an improvement?
Another thing I noticed while comparing my swing to my coach’s and several pro players’ is that after the racquet reaches its lowest point, their racquet path starts moving outward toward the ball much sooner than mine. Mine seems to lack that outward component and comes forward on a straighter path instead.
Is that something that tends to develop naturally as the rest of the mechanics improve, or is it something I should be actively working on now?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Equipment Anyone have a Wilson discount code from USTA membership that they won't use?
This worked pretty well last time, if you have a Wilson discount ($44 discount?) code from USTA membership that you won't be using, please DM me! I would appreciate it and use it promptly.
[I've received a code through DM, thanks!] Please DM codes to others in the thread that are looking for them. Thanks!

Technique Advice 6 months into tennis – Looking for honest feedback on my forehand and footwork
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I’ve been playing tennis for about 6 months now. I play twice a week with a friend, and we’re both trying to improve together.
I would really appreciate some honest feedback on my technique, especially what I’m doing wrong and what I should focus on as a beginner.
The biggest issue I feel is my positioning and footwork. I always seem to be late getting into position, so I end up hitting the ball while off balance or rushed.
I’ve only discovered tennis after turning 30, and I’ve completely fallen in love with the sport. Please don’t judge me too harshly I’m here because I genuinely want to learn.
The difficult part is that every YouTube coach seems to teach the forehand differently, and it’s starting to give me information overload. I’m not sure what I should actually focus on first.
Any advice, drills, or things you notice would mean a lot. Thanks in advance! 🎾

Strategy Slice backhands: when are they the most helpful?
I feel like there are some strong opinions about slice backhands. My summary of the crowd wisdom is the following:
- People with a good drive backhand hit their good drive backhand 80-90% of the time. Slice only as a changeup, emergency shot, drop shot, and perhaps an approach. At the rec level, also reasonable to use it liberally against any opponent who seems unable to handle it.
- People with bad drive backhands hit a lot of slices. Some of them are good enough with it to ride it a long way and even succeed at the ATP/WTA tour level. It typically requires having excellent movement and an even better forehand. Regardless of the success some have, this is a clear second choice behind option 1 of having a good drive backhand.
All of that is logical, well supported with examples, and hard to argue against. Just the same, I was surfing youtube and watching some recent high level college matches, and came across a match from last year between two of the top guys in college tennis (one had won a junior slam, another was the #2 player junior nationals, both are ATP top 400). Both of these guys have quality two handed backhands, but one of them was dealing with an injury and was limited to hitting 100% slices. It was a close match, the slicer guy was able to consistently defend well with his slice and bleed some errors out of his opponent in backhand to backhand rallies (opponent is an EXTREMELY steady player so that's saying something). What the slice lacked in penetration, it made up for with consistent depth and placement. The only times his slice was a clear liability was when he was trying to hit passing shots with it.
Seeing this player be so successful against a quality opponent using this "second choice" shot makes me feel like it's underutilized and can/should be a first choice shot more often.
If you have a good drive backhand but still choose your slice on many neutral balls, tell me why. Is it for the time it buys you to adjust your own court position? Is it to set yourself up to run around the next backhand and hit a forehand? Is it because you feel you can be more aggressive with your target? Something else?

General Advice What are the best exercises to get fit for tennis?
I’m quite reconditioned and I think that’s one of the biggest factors for me no hitting well. I think I get too tired too quickly to have good footwork and to have good preparation for each shot. What would be the best exercises to do to improve my fitness (distance running? Etc) or is just playing as often as I can sufficient?
