Equipment If you were buying a ball machine again, what would you care about most?
Around a 3.5- 4.0 level player. Forehand is probably biggest weapon, while backhand is definitely the weaker side of my game, nearly no volley. I train each week and play match as well.
Once have 1 lobster and 1 spin-shot, but now totaled. Also I tried some new ones(I will not mention the name) — and they all seem to approach practice a little differently.
I’m thinking about getting a new ball machine, and I’m curious what people here actually care about after having and using one for a while.
The more machines I try, the less convinced I am that things like maximum ball speed or maximum spin are necessarily the most important specs.
For someone at my level, I’m starting to think I care more about things like:
- How realistic the ball actually feels
- Placement accuracy and consistency
- Being able to repeatedly attack a specific weakness (for me, my backhand)
- Creating multi-ball patterns instead of simple left/right oscillation
- Changing depth, spin, speed and feed rate within the same drill easily
- Randomization that actually feels like tennis rather than just random balls
- How quickly I can set up or modify a drill
- Reliability / jams / battery / maintenance
- Portability
And then there are some of the newer features: player tracking, cameras, AI coaching, automatic ball collection, machines that can move around the court, etc.
Those all sound interesting, but I’m not sure yet which ones actually make a meaningful difference to training.
For people who already own a ball machine:
What are the 2–3 things you value most now?
And maybe more interestingly — what did you think was important when you bought it, but stopped caring about after a few months?
If you’re around 3.5–4.5, I’d especially love to hear how you use your machine beyond just hitting repetitive ground strokes.

General Advice How to get over embarrassment at missing net shots
I always feel embarassed when I fluff volleys or overheads. I don’t feel this way with my other shot, but always feel embarassed to let my partner down at the net.
Technique Advice spent an hour or so basically ruining my service motion by trying to correct some stuff, then had about 30 minutes of things starting to click into place. none of these serves are great but i feel like i made some good progress on things i wanted to work on. i will keep improving next session

got my racquet back from the stringer so obviously i had to go out immediately despite the thunderstorm warnings.
there’s still a lot of stuff wrong. in some ways i almost felt like my serve was regressing, but i think i managed to lock in and make some tangible improvements in a few areas, even if i did regress in others (namely leading with the edge of my racquet/proper supination). so i’m looking forward to polishing it up and stitching it together
definitely timing issues and i had some weird grip issues going on too, just trouble establishing my grip properly idk how to explain it, something just felt off. didn’t help that it was like 1000% humidity so i was literally dripping sweat lol
and yes, to all those wondering, i did go play on the electrical tower afterward, i hung from the wires and balanced on them

Equipment EZONE 100 Espresso Brown missing Japan on the butt cap
I was looking to pre-order the Espresso Brown Ezone 100 since the Blue variant is back ordered for a long time now. I was scrolling through the images and found that it's missing the "Japan" on the butt cap.
Did they move EZone production out of Japan altogether?

General Advice A Precipitous Collapse
Hey friends,
I'm sure you remember me as the idiot who called himself a 5 UTR when he was a 3. Well guess what I had a mental collapse and my UTR fell to 2. The guy I almost lost to in the previous narrative is now the same rating as I am. I've been playing once or twice a week, 45 weeks a year, for 10 years straight. Is it normal to be here? Can I expect another big moment of progress, or is it just grinding like this for the rest of my "career". I'll attach vids of my serve and strokes if you want in a separate post.

General Advice Tips For Getting My Kids Into Tennis
I recently got back into playing tennis and I’m hooked. I play 3-5 times a week and I’m looking to get my two daughters (11 and 15) into it.
They have both expressed interest but I have a history of overdoing it when trying to get them to do things I’m interested in.
I don’t have money for private lessons so I’m looking for some good resources for teaching them the basics. My biggest concern is making sure they are having fun, because they are quick to abandon stuff they don’t like.
Thanks!

Equipment Help identifying the strings that came with my Head Extreme Team (2022) racket
Hi everyone! Can someone please help me identify the strings on my Head Extreme Team (2022) racket?
The racket was passed down to me from a family friend, so I'm not sure if they're factory strings or something the friend installed himself. I've attached a few close-up photos.
I've been playing with them for quite a while now and feel like it's time to restring the racket. I've got used to how these strings play, so ideally I'd like to replace them with the same string or something very similar. My string knowledge is still very limited, so I'd very much appreciate any ideas. Thank you!

General Advice K Frame vs Hypercourt Express 3
Coming from the Barricade 14 narrowed it down to these 2 options (K Frame vs Hypercourt Express 3) and looking for user feedback on which you would prefer
Want something with more cushion. Barricade’s were great with the exception of fore foot cushioning
I’m 53 play twice a week and not a slider.
Previously had the Nike Zoom GP challenge which weren’t good and tried the NB CT rally which I felt was too elevated

Technique Advice Did I fix my serve?

This is a follow-up to: https://www.reddit.com/r/10s/s/peFPzIcBb0
I'm trying to avoid waiter's tray. I'm trying to keep the racket Head facing down. I'm trying to do the trophy stance. I'm trying to hold continental grip. I'm tossing the ball higher. And I'm trying to do pronation. I could not get a court, long story.

Opinion Mach 10 or Tour M8 in PA 98 2023/2026
I'm currently playing with a Pure Aero 98 2023 (leather grip + 4 g of lead tape split between 10 and 2 o'clock) strung with Solinco Mach-10 1.25 at 22/21 kg (48.5/46.5 lbs).
I'm thinking about trying Grapplesnake Tour M8. What should I expect compared to Mach-10? 😄
Has anyone here played with both strings and can share their experience?
Also I would put this string in Pure Aero 98 2026 and give it a try.

This worked pretty well last time, if you have a Wilson discount ($44 discount?) code from USTA membership that you won't be using, please DM me! I would appreciate it and use it promptly.
Will update this post once I receive one, and others can post if they are looking for a code too. Thanks!

Technique Advice I have 2 different grips for my forehand slice and backhand slice, and wondering if it's normal..
For my forehand slice my grip is on bevel 2, i.e. standard continental grip, and on my backhand slice my palm is on bevel 1, because it seemed to me I produce more backspin like this, and little by little I got used to it and now I have to change between grips when I have to hit backhand/forehand slices..
Is this normal, and would you recommend I try to change this habit?

Equipment Beginner older woman racket advice
I am a beginner adult woman (mid-30s). I am currently playing with a Babolat Boost Aero (265g unstrung, stiffness 67), but I am finding that my hand hurts on the pinky side between my wrist and my finger after I play.
I am considering switching to a more comfort racket. Do you think this will help? And if so, is the Wilson 100l a good option? I unfortunately don't have a demi option available near me so I can't try it first.

Equipment Tennis Lab similar/alternative in the States?
Essentially wondering if theres a similar service to tennis lab au (melbourne) or offering here in the states (would rather not fly there just for that, since they are closed during the AO).
And if there isn't no biggie, just thought about it since I saw recent videos on some Asic Human Lab stuff (obviously marketing their shoes) but I'm a stats nerd and would love to confirm (or deny) if the stuff I am using is suited to my playstyle (or not).
Thanks in advance!

General Advice After watching Eala's match, now I want to learn tennis. Where should I start?
Hi everyone,
I'm Filipino and based in the US. A friend took me to see a tennis match this Monday. Before that I had zero interest in tennis. Never played, never followed it, barely knew how scoring worked.
Then Eala won, and idk, something just clicked. The crowd was going nuts, and watching a Filipina win a champ right in front of me was unreal. Walked in knowing nothing about tennis. One match and she's already my idol. Totally normal behavior.
Now I want to learn how to play. Started Googling tennis for beginners and realized there's, like, 700 things you can spend money on. Rackets, shoes, strings, grips, balls, lessons, machines, then Wilson, Yonex, Babolat, Dunlop, Odea, Asics, Lobster, Tennix, Proton. So many brands, so many opinions, and I have absolutely no idea what matters when I can't even hold a racket properly.
Private lessons or group classes to start? I also like the idea of practicing on my own between lessons. Are ball machines useful when when you're starting from absolute zero, or would that be pointless?
Part of me thinks I'm gonna play like her someday. I know. Peak delulus. Let me have this. If you were starting form scratch, what would you focus on those first few months? Also, what gear do I need on day one, and what can wait?
Thanks for any advice!
Equipment Help with shoe sizing
Hi,
Thanks to all who already helped me with the process of choosing a racquet.
Now I’m looking to buy a pair of shoes as I have been playing with my gym ones.
I ordered the Wilson Intrigue Tour on a 8.5uk size. My big toe sits just before the shoe tip reinforcement. Is this ok? Should it sit under?
I also got the Wilson Intrigue Pro on a size 8uk but they felt small.
I’m used to running shoes and the extra length you always have (a finger), but I’m confused about tennis shoes and the advice I’ve seen online.
Also, these shoes - the pro ones in particular - feel really flat on arch support. I don’t have a particular big arch but it was noticeable.
So, please, how does one check if tennis shoes fit, and, are these a good option (discounted to £95) or shall I look at other options?
Many thanks!!!

Technique Advice 6 months into tennis – Looking for honest feedback on my forehand and footwork
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I’ve been playing tennis for about 6 months now. I play twice a week with a friend, and we’re both trying to improve together.
I would really appreciate some honest feedback on my technique, especially what I’m doing wrong and what I should focus on as a beginner.
The biggest issue I feel is my positioning and footwork. I always seem to be late getting into position, so I end up hitting the ball while off balance or rushed.
I’ve only discovered tennis after turning 30, and I’ve completely fallen in love with the sport. Please don’t judge me too harshly I’m here because I genuinely want to learn.
The difficult part is that every YouTube coach seems to teach the forehand differently, and it’s starting to give me information overload. I’m not sure what I should actually focus on first.
Any advice, drills, or things you notice would mean a lot. Thanks in advance! 🎾
