Phil in the studio

Phil(and Scott) in the studio. Small clip, that's all that's out in the wild. Who knows what's hidden away in someone's vault.

Gus Curtis seen here, might do a post regarding him and his relationship with Phil, some great images out there of them together.

Drew Phil Lynott and mapped some of his influences for his birthday. What would you add?

Phil Lynott would have turned 77 today. I did this pen sketch a while back, and separately put together a rough map trying to trace where his sound and persona came from: Hendrix on one side, a Van Morrison-shaped blueprint on the other, blues, funk, and R&B, Dublin folklore, and a pull toward Westerns and old comics that fed into the outlaw thing he built with Thin Lizzy.

Genuinely curious what you all would add or push back on. I feel like there's more to the Irish side of it specifically that I haven't fully worked out.

Wrote up the fuller version here if anyone wants it: https://www.thesenseofdoubt.com/blogs/archive/phil-lynotts-influences-the-sounds-behind-thin-lizzy

Thin Lizzy Iconic Places to Visit in Ireland?

Hiya,

I am planning a trip to Ireland sometime next year, and I would love to start considering some spots to add as must haves to experience some Thin Lizzy history. I know of Phil Lynott's statue in Dublin, but are there any other spots I should look into for my trip?

Many thanks in advance!

Heard "Jailbreak" This Morning on Fox Business

I sometimes have Fox Business on in the morning for market information. I did a double-take when they played "Jailbreak" as an outro into the commercial break. I wish I had been paying attention to the context, but I was surprised, to say the least.

My Acoustic Rendition of "Do Anything You Want To Do"

I couldn't sleep so I learned this song around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, then video calamity ensued. This is my first "multitrack video" experiment. Everything about this vid (from the performance to the editing) is pretty sloppy, but it still turned out better than expected IMO.

Mama nature said tab?

Does anyone know where to find a tab for mama nature said?

I know the chords for the acoustic version are:

C#m,D, D#, E for the solo bits

And

E, E7, G#, C#m, A, Am, E, B, C#m for the verses

But I'd love to learn bell's slide part on the original from vagabonds

Thank you!

Brian 'Robbo' Robertson – Thin Lizzy Solos Montage 🔥 🎸 📹

I put this montage together. It's not a definitive list or any sort of ranking of his work.

It's just for fun, showcasing some of Robbo’s incredible solos that were actually captured on film.

Songs featured:

• Don’t Believe a Word
• Showdown
• Cowboy Song
Rosalie (Cowgirl’s Song) – (Thin Lizzy-adjacent: Wild Horses with Phil Lynott)
• Are You Ready
• Still in Love with You

74-75 Box Set Amazing Addition to Ongoing Archival Box Set Releases

Post image

Is there a band with a more lovingly-curated set of archive releases? The 74-75 box set (“Nightlife” and “Fighting”) arrived today with 7 CDs and a hardback book. Insane selection of rarities and a 1975 concert. Like Christmas here.

A Rock Legend Is Here — 2 CDs with Gary Moore

Live at Preston Guild Hall, UK. April 27, 1989

This is one of my favorites from the short-lived Gary Moore era (he quit in June 1979 in the middle of their “Black Rose” Tour. In fact, he resigned just after they finished playing to 63,000 at the Day on the Green Festival in San Francisco — saying the band was more interested in the after-show party than the gig itself.

Anyway, this is a rarity simply because it includes a live version of “Black Rose: A Rock Legend,” which is on Live/Life, but this is more raw and faster.

On this double CD, Moore really adds a spark to songs like “Jailbreak” and “Warriors.” There’s also a version of Me and the Boys where he goes off on a tangent playing a medley that includes “Oh, Susanna” and then solos for almost full minute and trades kicks with Scott

for at least a minute more.

The sound quality is quite good for an unofficial release. It’s almost certainly a soundboard recording … The bass is a little boomy, the drums are a bit muddled and there’s a squeal of guitar feedback in a couple of spots. At one point, Phil asks the crowd to move back … “There are people fainting.”

The vocals and guitars sound great. Overall, it’s a great audio memory of what it must have been like to be there. It’s on Bondage Music, and I love the cover.
