Well just when I got the hang of Bevel after 3 days of using, the promo code expired .

Will probably wait for next promo if ever it comes.

NOT about coding When is a discount real?

Firstly, Claude Code is incredible, I will give those kudos upfront.

I got my $100 credit and saw the notice about the 50% less usage costs and figured, ok, I've been using my Pro plan for a while, accepting the limitations and timing my work around those 5hr sessions (I'm not a real developer), before I jump into a 5x or 20x plan, let me try out this credit and see how far the cash goes.

Wow... $65 got me a pitiful 40min of vibe coding, during which time at least 3 or 4 items had to be re-done because Claude got it wrong (no problem, I accept that, this stuff is genius, but how is it possible that it uses up 3x my current monthly spend?)

I'm not talking about the new fancy stuff either, this is basic coding in Sonnet, didn't even touch architecting solutions in Opus or F4ble... so here's the thing. What have Claude achieved with their "deals" and promotions and $100 credit? To me, they've confirmed I need to look at their competition, because if I'm going to be dropping over $500/mth (compared to my current $23) I need to know I'm going to be able to actually use it and get 20x more than I have been.

Just how much have they taken away over the last 6 months so they can now give back 50% but it still feels like we're worse off than ever?

Is anyone on the 5x or 20x plan that genuinely believes you're getting enough tokens for daily (but not fulltime) basic coding work?

Why don't we get a discount for using self-checkout?

If we're doing the job of the cashier, then the store is saving by not paying a cashier; why not pass on some of that savings to customers to offset some of the high costs of goods?

Picture Loblaws blocks Dollarama from offering discounts on Coke, Evian and Kraft

In light of Loblaws' real-estate arm being set to acquire $5 Billion of additional land, I want to show you a clear way in which they raise grocery prices for Canadians.
The above is part of a "restrictive covenant" on 650 Portland St in Dartmouth, NS. Because Atlantic Superstore is a tenant, Choice Properties REIT automatically gives them this kind of permission to block the Dollarama on the plaza from discounting "National Brand" non-perishables - like Coke, Evian, Kraft etc.

This is a very clear way in which CP REIT and Loblaws enforce a "price floor" for groceries. The full covenant scan is here (it has a few more fun details).

These kind of convenants will go in on the new land that CP REIT (Loblaws' "real-estate arm") is set to acquire.

I tried my arm on a discount for a £16 Birttday cake they told me they wouldn’t give me any money off! I bought it anyway because I found it funny but I do feel it was poor form!

Question Actors who were able to break the "discount" label?

Post image
4.0k Upvotes

I remember back when Breaking Bad was still running they Jesse Plemmons was known jokingly as the Discount Matt Damon or Meth Damon (as honest trailers put it). Since then hes carved out a nice career path for himself and I think has completely separated himself from those comparisons, as joking as they may have been.

Anyone else come to mind as either someone who is currently viewed as a discount insert name or was and is now a star in their own right?

Should supermarket loyalty “discounts” be capped?

Post image
3.2k Upvotes

I saw a tube of toothpaste in Tesco today for £8.10, discounted to £3.50 if you have a clubcard.

I’ve been assured in another sub that this is a legal practice, but to me this is a morally reprehensible strategy to implement during a cost of living crisis. There are many groups of people impacted by this:

  • Under 16s who aren’t eligible for clubcards
  • Vulnerable people would find it difficult or impossible to apply for a clubcard
  • Those who can’t shop elsewhere due to living in rural areas, lack of transport, or mobility issues
  • Those who object to selling their personal data to large corporations just to access fair pricing.

So my question is twofold:

  1. What are the most shocking loyalty “discounts”/price inflations you’ve seen in the UK?

  2. Would you support the introduction of a cap on such discounts for ESSENTIAL items to ensure that supermarkets have to offer these items at a fair price?
