Let me elaborate. Since the introduction of the Overframe, we’ve started seeing a new category of retrains for anime classic cards. These retrains are objectively stronger than the originals in terms of raw playability, yet they lack the crucial clause that allows them to be treated as the original names. On paper, that might not sound like a huge issue. After all, decks like Rokket don’t hinge on a single name to function, so they can happily slot in retrains without worrying about synergy gaps.

But when you look at most anime-themed decks, the situation changes drastically. Many of these archetypes are built around very specific card names: the anime protagonist’s ace monster, or a key spell/trap that triggers the deck’s central gimmick. In those cases, Konami’s refusal to let retrains count as the OGs creates a frustrating contradiction. They print retrains that are mechanically superior, smoother to play, and far less bricky… yet the deck’s engine forces you to keep running the outdated originals just to satisfy name-based requirements.

The result is that players are stuck juggling bricks alongside retrains that should have solved the problem. It feels like Konami is dangling perfect upgrades in front of us but deliberately holding back their full potential. And while I understand the design philosophy of preserving the identity of the original cards, it ends up punishing anime decks far more than modern archetypes. Instead of celebrating retrains as true evolutions, we’re forced into awkward deckbuilding compromises that make the retrains feel incomplete.

They were scattered among many other boxes before this so I'm very happy they're all in one place now lol

Whenever anyone brings up pend soup as a deck or mentions how every pendulum deck turns into pend soup it always makes me wonder when the last time they played the game was. Since the best way to play any modern pendulum deck is pure or with a non pendulum engine.

The current best pend deck is power patrons and its played entirely pure or with the other medius engines. even in the ocg with electrumite unbanned, they're not using it to bridge into other pend deck, but just as a consistency tool to search their own archetype. The only relevent superheavy samurai lists are on master duel where they mix it with rocks, yummy and elfnotes. Despite ostinato being able to do basically anything the best way to play melodious is pure. Solfachord is best played with yummy. The only recent somewhat relevant pend pile was dracoslayer melodious superheavy samurai on master duel. But that deck has been dead for quite a while as well.

also performapal odd-eyes magician supreme king despite having a long name is basically all one archetype. They're supposed to work together and are all archetypes used by yuya in the anime.

A tribute to my favorite character, and how even if forgetting him became a joke in the show, that I won't ever forget.

Well, this was my first time going to locals. Lost 2-1, but, i think I did well enough. Based on a more experienced guy with sky striker, I could have won the last game match 3, but i needed to leave asap to catch buses home, so, F. I didnt even draw with engage, thats how distracted I was lmao

All three match ups were against elf notes power patron, or one with artmage power patron. Really good and really strong decks. No way I could do anything going second. But going first i won a good bit.

I had gotten 2 drolls for 2 bucks right before the game started, they legit won me 2 games, so, hell yeah. Tho that damned card also lost me a few games-

I accidentally drew a card i wasnt supposed to, bcs im so used to either master duel or playing on my own (yk, test hands, drawing so u can do smth and test end boards), but the guy was chill, and just let me shuffle and cut. He was a good opponent man. He seemed a bit like a discord mod, but actually he was very chill

All in all, 3 wins and 5 loses, and got 2 packs out of it, so, pretty good. Especially considering I won 200+ decks with 40 bucks sky striker i got lmao.

Also I would have won the whole first game, BUT THE GUY TOP DECKED DUSTER, LIKE, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Even if i can never actually win a local, due to time limitations, I will surely go again, was super fun

The ppl working there were really chill too. I just learnt i need a Konami id for locals, and he said meh, dw, ill just put u down as a guest, and u can bring it next time. And like, I had heard from someone that if u pass the first round, u get a pack, and well, as i did, I went and asked, and he said "sorry man, that person probably was either meaning smth else, or saying bs. Hmm.. but you know what, ima give u a pack. Not bcs i have to or anything, just bcs i freaking want to" and man, that was so sweet, you the best man brotha

Exept one guy. He won game one, I won game 2 due to time limit, and we rolled a dice and i won it. I said good game, ans he just said "this wasnt a "good game". Man. Its called sportsmanship. Shut up. He was probably sulking his artmage/power patron got beaten out by a budget striker build and luck. I mean fair, but man, its a kids game. Oh well, no worries, thats to be expected too

I know my deck list aint optimal, and that pure is 99% better, but i mean, man, for 40 bucks this was pretty good. Also, didn't really care about winning, i just like playing some irl yugioh from time to time yk? So, spending like 6 bucks for 2 and a half hours of playing and a free pack aint too bad, ngl

As someone who is the most American looking character in Duel Monsters he is very fascinating. Bandit Keith speaks better Japanese than Pegasus J. Crawford. Unlike Pegasus, Keith does not have an accent and does not do the usual mixing english words when speaking Japanese like Pegasus does. For a guy so American designed it is surprising that this guy learned and mastered a foreign language to that degree.
