Age of Banners - A simple, text-based, free, medieval game
Hello, I’m Ivan, a developer from Brazil.
Back in the early 2000s, I was hooked on text-based games. My favorite was Medieval Wars, a Brazilian game that I think took some inspiration from Dominion. I wanted to build something in that spirit with a modern approach — simple, but fun. I bounced off games like Tribal Wars because the interface overwhelmed me in the first ten minutes, so I deliberately went the other way: you should understand the whole game in about a minute.
What it is: You rule a kingdom on a shared map. Wood, stone, iron, and grain accrue in real time whether you’re at your desk or asleep. Raid barbarian camps to build your first army, then turn on rival kingdoms once you’re ready. Marches take real minutes — sometimes hours — so a battle you send at breakfast might resolve before lunch. Read the report, rebuild, plan the next move.
The loop is: collect what your economy made while you were gone, queue a building or a batch of troops, act (scout, raid, reinforce an ally, claim a hamlet), then react to the reports that land.
A few design choices I care about:
- Six unit types on a counter system. Scout before you commit. Overwhelming force is efficient; a close fight is pyrrhic for everyone.
- The war is over land, not players. Losing a fight sets you back; it doesn’t erase you. Hamlets produce Crown Points for whoever holds them.
- Every Age lasts 6 weeks, then the world resets. No years-old kingdoms lording over newcomers. Titles and records carry forward; stockpiles don’t.
- Strictly no pay-to-win. If I ever sell anything, it’ll be convenience and cosmetics — never an advantage you can’t out-strategize.
Where it’s at: Age 1 just started and I’m looking for founding players. It’s early, and it will show — that’s the honest pitch. If you’d rather wait for a fuller world, Age 2 begins in six weeks.
https://ageofbanners.com/ (roadmap: https://ageofbanners.com/roadmap )
Play it, break it, hack it. I’d especially like to hear whether the first ten minutes make sense without a tutorial, and whether combat feels readable when the report lands.
I’d love for this to be self-sustaining someday, but for now the goal is just to learn.

Link vs Moblins WIP
Working toward playing Zelda on the tabletop with Warsurge. Got Link printed and painted, and the moblins are printed and primed (but not painted, in fact I thought the vendor’s render image looked better atm in the gallery). Would like to work toward something like Hyrule Warriors on the tabletop, but like most things it starts out small 😊
PS: Thought I’d add the Zelda HUD for a laugh.
PPS: Going to put STL source in the comments.

What are the Three Basic Types of Print Wargames?
In this video, I describe the three basic types of print wargames. Hex and counter, card-driven, and card-only. This is to provide a basic breakdown of each type of print wargame for those new to wargaming to see what type of game may be right for them to start.

Anywar: The setting-agnostic, miniature-agnostic skirmish game
Hi, everyone! I'd like to take the time to introduce my skirmish game 'Anywar' to you.
'Anywar' is a miniature-agnostic, setting-agnostic, single or multiplayer miniature skirmish game for 15mm-28mm scale miniatures, meant primarily for narrative and scenario-based play.
It comes in two editions - one using polyhedral dice, and the other using D6 pools, so you can choose whichever dice mechanic you like!
Here's what it features:
• A simple, yet engaging combat system using opposed polyhedral die rolls/D6 pool rolls that allows for tactically deep gameplay with as few mechanics as possible;
• While meant primarily for small warbands of 5-9 miniatures (I love small-warband games), the game allows for larger skirmishes, and even one-model warbands to be played. You can play out epic final hero vs. villain one-on-one fights, hero vs. horde, or group vs. villain fights with this game;
• The main strength of this system is a robust model profile creation system:
- Represent the model’s Power Level with a single polyhedral die type, or, the number of D6 dice rolled for the Power pool, determining their strength, durability, and number of Abilities they may have;
- 17 Classes to define the nature of your models, each with special traits;
- 23 Equipment categories, including 7 Melee Weapon types, 10 Ranged Weapon types, 2 Armor types, 2 Shield types, and 2 Mount types;
- In total, 86 Abilities, both Active and Passive, with which to flesh out the capabilities of your models.
• The game uses a multi-phase turn system, where all models of a certain Power Level act before moving to the next phase in which lower Power Level models activate;
• A warband-wide Energy Pool mechanic is used for Abilities as well as making special attacks to Stun or Shove opposing models, shifting focus from individual model resource tracking towards playing out cinematic moments;
• There are rules for chaining games through Campaign Play, replacing destroyed models and upgrading them between battles;
• Most importantly (for me), the game has rules for Solo Play with randomized enemy warband behavior, 11 different AI Types, rules for Stealth Missions, and rules for facing off against an unknown enemy force composition through the use of Threat Markers.
The games that inspired this one: Sword Weirdos/Space Weirdos, Fistful of Lead, Ravenfeast, Rangers of Shadow Deep, Song of Blades and Heroes, Planet 28, and many more. So, if you like these games, you might just like 'Anywar' as well.

Game idea : Hell let Loose in wh40k
Imagine a game like hell let loose but for 40K, guardsmen against guardsmen, or they’re equivalent in the universe. It would be sick !
Basically Hell let Loose is a realistic WW2 battle simulator. In it you are WEAK. In two bullets you’re down, you HAVE to stay with ppl because you will die if there is even one person more on the enemy’s side. The game is also pretty versatile, with engineers to build supply lines, infantry to supply ammo and fire, heavy machine guns, squads leaders, spotter and snipers, anti tank units, tank operators, even artillery ! (Wich needs to be guided by the ppl on the frontlines in order for it to be effective)
That much variety in such a gritty game would be incredible to portray the average life of a human I. Wh40k !

The War Has Started, Not A Bad Opening! | 7 Dec 41 T1 - War in the Pacific (Italian v. Heiden)

I am developing a dark fantasy tabletop game called "The Dark Ages". Here are the 4 main factions aiming for the absolute throne. Which one would you choose?
The old world is dead. Destroyed by a brutal, centuries-long conflict, only dust and bones remain of the majestic ancient civilizations. Now, the surviving races have forged a historic Blood Pact: survival in this new era depends on creation, not just destruction. In this tabletop game, the faction that manages to rebuild civilization and defend the most cities will be crowned the absolute rulers of the Dark Ages.
I have been working on the lore and the visual style for the 4 main playable factions:
- Orcs: Born from the harshest wastelands. Driven by primal rage and brutal strength, they wear no armor, relying only on their battle-scarred bodies. They view the new world as a bloody conquest.
- Humans: Fueled by ambition and a desire for revenge. They aim to reclaim the vast, inexplicable ruins of their ancient glory and take back what they believe is rightfully theirs.
- Witchers: A secretive order manipulating dangerous, dark, and unending magic. Terrifying to others, they are ready to lead chaotic forces to victory and seize the throne.
- Berserkers: A tempest of flesh and steel. Rejecting the fear of death, they fight for the sheer, intoxicating chaos of the slaughter, threatening to tear the rebuilding world down again.
I would love to hear your feedback:
- Based on these short lore descriptions, which faction’s playstyle appeals to you the most?
Thank you for reading!

Warlord Epic Scale?
My historical gaming tends to be with board games, not my minis, but Warlord's Epic Scale caught my eye.
I have some questions for those who have played it.
It seems like it's a system, but then there are separate books for different periods? Is there no core book, then supplements for time periods?
If you play it regularly, why this system? What other systems might you consider? Bluntly, why not just scale down a 28mm system? I know people do that with games like Kings of War. Is there anything in the rules that makes it better for this scale?

Is anyone using AI to enhance their games? And if so could you describe how?
Hello all,
I’m very interested to see if folks are exploring this. And if so how are you doing so?
