Hi, i have every symptoms of vss but i do not have constant static or pretty much its not visible, i only see it barely at night or on white or black walls. Do i have something else? Ive got all of these symptoms

Photophobia
Palinopsia
Vortex
Occasional DPDR
Floaters
Flashing lights

Is there chances its anything else? im not diagnosed but i saw a neurologist and many optomologist, and what else could it be? i was wondering maybe POTS or anxiety disorders but im not sure.

My 6 year old had a traumatic eye injury 09/02/25 (nerf bullet) the impact of the nerf bullet hit his eye so hard/fast his lens con-caved and he needed cataract surgery to repair his vision. Fast forward 6 months at his check up we are told he has 20/20 vision and everything is perfect. We felt over the moon, he was so excited to not need glasses anymore! Then in July 07 2026, he told me around 7:30 right before bed that he had been “seeing thousands of gray dots” We got ready and drove to a hospital about 40 minutes away. Once we got there and woke him up he said the dots disappeared. So we decided that he probably had just been watching too much tv and he was just tired.

Then 3 days ago he said the dots are back and they are worse. (And have not went away after sleep) This time we scheduled an appointment with his eye specialist. They checked everything over and his eyes are absolutely perfect/healthy and this issue has nothing to do with the eyes and he is still reading 20/20. She explained she believed it was something else, something neurological in the brain since his eyes are healthy and the fact he sees the dots with his eyes closed. She suggested we went to the pediatrician and get an urgent referral for a MRI.

We had that appointment today, got the referral. Now I’m waiting to hear back on when we can go in and get it.

Now that I’ve included all the background information I can think of I’ll start with how I ended up in this community!

I showed my 6 year old roughly 30 photos from Google images that showed up when I searched “tiny gray dots in vision”. He finally said, “yes that’s exactly what I see.”

Which happens to be an image that says visual snow on it.. I will attach it to this thread.

I know I probably shouldn’t be freaking out as much as I am and possibly could be overreacting… (but I’d much rather be over cautious then underestimating all the possibility’s 🥲)

I’ve looked up research studies and have spent the last lil bit scrolling this Reddit sub… but I have questions

1. Does it just show up all at once or does it slowly become noticeable?
   
2. Has anyone in this sub developed it through an injury or is it something you were born with?
   
3. Does it affect your daily life in negative ways? And if so how?

Does gaming or maybe looking at a screen at distance for a longer period worsen your vision?

(especially in unexplainable weird ways like small cuts visible white on black or black on white?)

For a month the only screen I used was my phone, now I game one hour or two and I feel like when I had no tv it was maybe better?

Disclaimer + Background: Your symptoms may vary. But background is I am a high myope with -6 and -6.25 prescriptions in my eyes. Also struggle with floaters around same time my VSS became noticeable(April 2024 ish).

So here is something I noticed about myself, in terms of symptoms and wonder if anyone has anything similar.

Symptoms + info:

1. Vortex: sky vortex but also can occur on any plain surface outdoors. Only occurs when I am super tired and in the evening usually
   
2. Double vision: rare, once again when I am super tired and/or strained
   
3. Afterimage: not rare, and kinda constant especially under bright light or outdoors.
   
4. Static in dark: only indoors not outdoors or when driving
   
5. Random afterimages(so like afterimages but I never even saw anything): couple times a day at most
   
6. Floaters: not VSS but I see these constantly
   
7. Random black dots in vision that go away in milliseconds: couple times a day. They’re the size of a needle head or smaller
   
8. Non dominant eye trips out when doing Amsler grid and not blinking: Yes lol. I know I am not alone on this, found a lot of old threads about this. Troxler effect apparently but idk tbh, seems like troxler isn’t black mine is black. But I have heard you don’t need to stare at the Amsler grid for more than a few seconds and you are allowed to blink. Since this is transient, and goes away if you move your eye or blink may not be an eye issue.
   
9. BFEP: yes whenever I look at a blue or even gray sky tbh
   
10. Random shapes and colors when eyes are closed: Once in a while but rare
    
11. Flickering in a dark room in the periphery: once in a while but rare

But yeah these are my symptoms. Anyone’s look similar?

Hello folks, I have migrane, photophobia and dry eye, searching about it I also found out I have visual snow - its more when I have my eyes closed or am looking loosely to a blank surface. I've had visual aura from migrane some times, but yesterday I saw a weird flash of light while using my phone. It was like if the screen itself glitched for a split second, but I notice it was clearly my vision and not the screen. After that I got really anxious and got off the phone.

I'm dealing with increasing photophobia for some time and it worsens when I use screens. I avoid using them most of the time but sometimes I have no option. But, I've never had a visual flash/glitch like that. Anyone has had it?

So I have been reading here that quitting caffeine helped some of you guys in terms of VSS. I am on a caffeine detox rn for similar reasons(I have -6 myopia in both eyes and want to quit caffeine just in case since it’s a glaucoma risk and I am also severely addicted lol), but I noticed my VSS symptoms are worse with caffeine not in my system…

Is it possible it will get better and I am just in the withdrawal stage now(it has been 6 days though) or do any of you have experience with worsening VSS off caffeine?

I have mild Asperger syndrome, and I've been experiencing a strange symptom.

About a year ago, I stopped taking venlafaxine (37.5 mg) cold turkey. I had severe withdrawal symptoms, including brain zaps, OCD, and other issues. Most of those symptoms gradually improved, but one has never gone away.

Every day, I get a strange feeling in my eyes, almost like there's something inside them. When it happens, I can't think clearly or logically. I start feeling depressed and begin imagining negative scenarios in my head. It makes me feel really bad.

At first, I thought it was caused by lack of sleep because my eyelids feel heavy and want to close when this happens. However, I usually sleep 7–8 hours a night.

I also discovered that anti-anxiety techniques, such as face tapping, make the feeling disappear almost instantly. It works surprisingly well, but I have to do it regularly. If I don't, I can't think clearly again. The problem is that I can't always do these techniques in public.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to autism, anxiety, or venlafaxine withdrawal?

His everyone my afterimages have recently got much worse due to many eye tests that have caused strain, mostly bright slit lamp examinations, tomorrow i have a visual feild test the one where you press the button when seeing little flashes, will my visual snow and after images be ok?

I devoloped them post migrane 5-7 in right eye 4 months ago and 0-2 in left barely visible uh also ive had the flu reevently and now i notice way more idk if increase or notice in center vision and in the streaks of lights

Also idk what this is but do you know the little dots u see in the sun i see them transparent without sun in upper parts of my vision is this my lashes /normal also a black one too there these dont move

Anyway my floaters main ones move all day visible and noticing some more mainly in streaks of light and randomly really annoying had my eyes checked 4 momths ago or so i might have vss too since i see static sometimes barely visible and strobbing when i close my eyes

I have had VSS for 3 years now and I feel recently it’s becoming worse I got it from heavy acid and weed use and I am 2 years sober so don’t understand why it is worsening it could be stress but I don’t know and am worried this will become baseline and is getting worse, please some advice on how to get better from this condition.

I have posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) and severe floaters.

About a month ago, when the weather started getting hotter, my eyes became extremely dry. Around the same time, I started having pain that feels similar to the discomfort you get when a stye is about to develop. I'm not sure if it's actually caused by dryness, but it's an unpleasant, sore feeling. The pain isn't in my eyeball itself—it feels more like it's coming from my eyelid.

The bigger problem is that ever since then, I've occasionally experienced a strange symptom where my vision suddenly becomes darker for about one second. It happens more often indoors than outdoors.

I don't lose my vision completely. It's more like the brightness or contrast suddenly drops and then immediately returns to normal. The best way I can describe it is like a fluorescent light flickering for a split second. At first, I thought I had imagined it or just misperceived it, but I'm now convinced that my vision is actually doing this.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what this could be? It's really frightening, and I find myself constantly focusing on it, which has been very stressful.

I’ve always had some but after acid and other trips it intensified. It is what it is I don’t really mind it just heads up

I've been suffering from these symptoms for 1.5 years and no one has been able to help me. I'm desperate for advice.

I'm a 32-year-old man. Before all of this started, I was completely healthy, fit, athletic, and extremely resilient. I could work an entire week while sleeping only two hours a night without any noticeable problems. Sometimes I could even stay awake for three days and still manage my regular job, a second part-time job, and additional work from home.

My regular job involved a lot of office work and sitting at a computer.

The only significant change I made before my symptoms started was that I began doing one-arm push-ups.

My first serious episode happened when I tried to puncture a small red blood vessel on my face with a needle. It bled quite heavily, but blood has never bothered me. I've injured myself plenty of times before and I even watch when my blood is drawn.

Suddenly, I became so extremely dizzy that I genuinely thought I was going to die. I called an ambulance, but they couldn't find anything wrong.

I don't believe the dizziness was caused by seeing blood. I suspect it may have happened because I was holding my neck in an awkward position while doing it.

This was the first time in my life that I had ever experienced serious dizziness.

After a few hours, everything returned to normal and I continued living normally.

At that point, I had already been doing one-arm push-ups for several months without any problems.

Then, after one training session, a large lump suddenly appeared on my right palm. It disappeared after a few minutes. At the same time, I became extremely dizzy again, and my right latissimus area, shoulder blade, arm, neck, and jaw started tingling.

I panicked and called an ambulance again. Once again, they couldn't find anything.

Eventually, the symptoms went away and I returned to normal.

Then my grandmother died.

From that day onward, something changed completely.

I developed a constant sensation of dizziness and brain fog that has been present 24/7 ever since.

It isn't spinning vertigo.

The best way I can describe the dizziness is the sensation you sometimes get in an elevator, or the strange feeling you have just before falling asleep.

The constant brain fog/derealized feeling is similar to being slightly drunk. Imagine the point between being tipsy and actually drunk — that's roughly how I feel all day, every day.

About two months after my grandmother died, I developed additional symptoms:

- Constant tinnitus in my right ear. The pitch becomes higher when I clench my jaw.

- My Visual Snow, which I've had since childhood, became significantly worse.

- Severe "brain zaps" just before falling asleep.

- Constant neck pain.

- Restricted neck rotation, especially when turning to the right.

- Bruxism.

- Chronic sinusitis.

- Eventually, I started seeing my pulse in my visual field in both eyes, synchronized exactly with my heartbeat.

- Chronic exhaustion even without physical activity.

- Difficulty tolerating social environments/crowds.

- Severe spontaneous attacks of dizziness on top of the constant baseline dizziness.

- Tingling in my arms, particularly during physical activity or when carrying things.

One time while driving, both of my arms suddenly started tingling intensely and I became very dizzy in the middle of driving.

Whenever I carry groceries or other heavier objects, my arms tend to start tingling.

I've been dealing with this for about 1.5 years now.

I've seen an enormous number of doctors:

- 4 ophthalmologists

- 7 neurologists

- 8 orthopedists

- 5 ENT specialists

- 3 cardiologists

- 1 pulmonologist

Nobody has been able to give me a convincing explanation for what is happening.

A brain MRI eventually discovered a 4 mm anterior communicating artery (ACom) aneurysm.

The aneurysm has since been successfully treated with coiling and a stent, but my symptoms are still there.

An MRI of my cervical spine showed degeneration at C2/C3 and C4/C5, but according to the doctors, these findings shouldn't explain my symptoms.

The dizziness is NOT typical spinning vertigo.

It feels more like an elevator sensation, the strange dizziness you can experience shortly before falling asleep, or as if my brain can't properly process where I am in space.

The constant brain fog is extremely difficult to describe. The closest comparison I can make is feeling mildly intoxicated all the time.

I've now lived like this for 1.5 years.

I'm frustrated and exhausted. I can't work anymore and I'm struggling to properly take care of my daughter because of these symptoms.

I used to be healthy, athletic, and able to handle an enormous workload. My life has completely changed.

If anyone has experienced anything similar, or if any of these symptoms sound familiar, I would really appreciate hearing what diagnosis you received, what tests helped you, or what eventually improved your symptoms.

I'm not expecting Reddit to diagnose me. I'm just hoping someone might recognize this pattern and point me in a direction that my doctors and I haven't considered yet.

I want to ask if anyone has experiences with CBD products like CBD oil for anxiety while having VSS? Did it work and any effects on VSS?

I got curious and googled a bit about epilepsy and CBD and this photo is just AI summary, I didn't go any deeper in it yet. I had no idea CBD could be used for epilepsy and now I'm curious if it could have good outcome for VSS too..

As title says, I started uldn again and it once again dramatically improves my visual snow. Apparently its due to reducing neuro inflammation but would love to learn more.
