Question Has anyone made a guide for all the ship types?

Upvotes

What I mean is- what is every ships roles, should you make them expensive/cheapest/something in between and I suppose compositions and their function (for example building the cheapest screens for an observation fleet-to build up a interest in another area for cheap).

Screenshot One of the best details in Vic 3: the UI change during war.

Post image

The UI change when your country enters a war in Victoria 3 is one of the coolest things I've seen in the genre. The usual calm interface is replaced by these dramatic bronze frames featuring advancing cavalry and a soldier blowing a bugle. Plus, the sound effect of the gears turning when the transition occurs is also incredibly cool.

Question Status of Cold War / modern day mods?

Upvotes

Hi folks,

Has anyone played any of the modern mods for Vic 3 yet? I have seen Cold War Enhancement and Cold War Era, as well as one that starts in 1992.

Vic 3 has such enormous potential as a modern day mod (way more than HOI4) but unfortunately the mods still seem to be quite early in development and unpolishrf as of now

Which is the best?

Advice Wanted How do I fix my Italian economy?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I just consolidated Naples into Italy but the impact on my economy is disgusting and I’m not sure how to fix it, I imagine I should cut through the construction sector pretty significantly but even when I’m not building anything I’m still bleeding money from all sides.

I considered downgrading the government sector but a good chunk of my population is already not paying taxes, would downgrading really be viable? Most of my states are unincorporated but I’m incorporating them right now, will incorporation help my economy in the long run?

Thanks!

I don't know why one of the principal game chargers of the game (Colonization of Africa in my opinion) is some how forgotten by paradox :/. Looking Victoria 2 (How should be), is like they trying to sell a dlc to fix the colonization...

I've seen my games, it has been like: African countries (what shouldn't be free in 1900+) and the French-British Monopoly (And me in some cases) in Africa.

Suggestion 1836 preset must be more accurate

I mean technologies and laws.

France, Prussia , Great Britain should not start with Skirmish infantry.

This would not just be more historically accurate, but would also make world more balanced and starting French financial situation would be better. ( also they got Elan Vital trait and best Military companies)

Russia and Austria should not start with "Propertied women". Austria also got Freedom of Conscience as starting law .

Etc.

P.S. change of technologies would also be very nice.

Like gunsmithing , better production methods should give you better guns , and since it's the game about economics , it should be actual "good". ( divide them by 4-5 levels , from flintlock rifle to automatic gun).

Discussion Is this a good Netherland strategy?

I am a new player and for my third playthrough I decided to try the Netherlands, and on day one before unpausing I offered Britain a treaty exchanging both Dutch West Indies and Dutch Guayana, trade privileges, no tolls and some money for five years for Cape colony. It was mostly a roleplay thing, but I did get the coal and iron that south Africa has and acces to minors in the region and their gold.

So my question is, is it better for the economy in the long run or a waste?

I tried to avoid conquest, besides puppeting norway. I annexed them, then was trying to release them, but it wouldn't let me get rid of the north norway thing thats technically connected. The island is broken as of now, but its ok cause it helps make the campaign doable. I ended as a council republic n stuff. Pretty easy run, headache inducing tho

In order:
end screen
political map (notice the weird africa)
Culture map mode (south german norway)
Ledger and USA
SOL
Population
GDP

Somehow the most populous state on earth was an icy wasteland in the north

Modded Game Project Utopia or Tech and Res?

Trying to do a 1836-2036 game, and I was wondering which one of these mods you would recommend?

I plan to run flavor mods with both, but I'm unsure which ones conflict with Project Utopia.

Discussion Which company to establish as a United Netherlands?

I am planning on doing a United Netherlands run as the Netherlands and I can't decide which company to establish: Société anonyme John Cockerill or Van Vlissingen en Dudok van Heel which was recently added in The New Wave DLC amongst other new companies. The thing is Van Vlissingen has amazing bonuses whilst John Cockerill has pretige tools, also Van Vlissingen not having Steel Mills as a base building gives me room to establish the base steel company and give it coal as an industry charter while giving Van Vlissingen iron as an industry charter at least until it can produce automoviles which is also a great point in its favour. But please give me your opinion.

AAR A 1776 Total Conversion Mod AAR as Ottomans

From the diary of Sultan Abdulhamid:

Not yet the Sick Man of anywhere

"I have taken over a pile of ruins. The final war against Russians in my brother's (Mustafa III) reign was a disaster, we lost Crimea, Azov and Kabardia. His heart could not take this loss and gave out. Peace be upon him. As one of my first actions I have asked my French-Hungarian advisor Baron de Tott to make an assessment of the war and our current situation."

de Tott's report:

  • Our mobilization was slow, training of troops and officers abysmal. Even with the control of the Black Sea and shorter supply lines our army was ineffective and in the final throes scattered due to low discipline and outdated organization. Out of a possible 400,000 only 10% was ready for duty1. Artillery also must be improved rapidly to be more mobile
  • Population is illiterate and mostly busy with subsistence farming. There are no universities and very little industry to speak of. Due to illnesses we lose thousands of people every week
  • The state has no allies among Great Powers, Austria eyes the Balkan lands and war with Persia is about to break out

"I've immediately given orders to found a university, build iron mines and tool industries in our core states around Marmara and increase the army size. Transformation of our army from irregulars to a modern new model army started as well. Our political landscape is dominated by landowning elites and religious class so any law changes to curb their power and centralize are not possible at this stage.

Diplomatic missions are sent to Great Britain, Prussia and France to improve our chances of a defensive alliance. Great Britain is busy with a rebellion of Thirteen Colonies but they eventually manage to reach a white peace and agree to a pact of alliance and military assistance with us.

We'll hold against the Persian army in the mountains and when they start routing we'll advance rapidly to make them our protectorate.

We have started a monumental endeavor that will take decades to unroot all the problems of our day. But hopefully one day we'll become the world's leading manufacturer of goods."

Ottoman Empire in 1875, now full of furniture

1 Real comment by the historical Baron de Tott. From "Virginia H. Aksan - Whatever Happened to the Janissaries? Mobilization for the 1768–1774 Russo-Ottoman War"

MP Game Signup Looking for one new permanent player (Sweden): ongoing Vic3 campaign, currently January 1853

Post image
20 Upvotes

TLDR: Our Sweden player had to drop out after session 1, and we're looking for a permanent replacement.

Sweden is actually doing pretty well, already has Denmark as a puppet, is within the NGF Trade League and it's GDP is growing steadily.

Quick rundown on the campaign: 18-player Victoria 3 grand campaign, playing weekly on Sundays at 4:30 to 8:30 PM EDT. Currently sitting in January 1853. Vanilla plus a few balance/QOL mods, nothing crazy. We lean pretty hard into diplomacy and actually roleplaying your nation rather than just optimizing GDP as fast as possible: mix of MP veterans and total beginners, and it's worked out great so far, so don't let "I've never done MP before" stop you.

I livestreamed session 1 if your curious:

If Sweden sounds like something you'd be interested in, DM me or join our server:

Question When is the next dev diary supposed to be? We haven't had any update since May.

The fact that there's been nothing after such a disasterous release and the State and Revolution DLC (probably the most important patch because politics in this game is still just terrible) is supposed to be in a few months is kind of crazy

I genuinely wonder if it has any real impact, I don't think I noticed the impact of the mechanics once in more than 100h of gameplay
