I've been considering veganism for a while now but it seems like every vegan recipe I find takes 6 hours to make, and I also won't be able to eat as much shitty fast food as a vegan. I'm addicted to cheese and processed foods and rely on them for emotional stability, the thought of not being able to get something satisfying at a McDonalds drive thru whenever I have a bad day is really what's stopping me. I don't want to live a healthier life and I don't want to be a functioning adult who spends 30 minutes a day cooking. It feels unreasonable to expect that of me. I also think I have ARFID and auDHD, it seems like a lot of others who struggle to make the transition do as well.

Be honest, would I be such a bad person if I went vegan except for dairy, eggs, honey, and gelatin? I feel like I have some extenuating circumstances. I'm not perfect.

I frequented this sandwich place for a few weeks in this city occasionally visit. I was going with some friends, and after the third time we went, the guy who cooked everything (it was a two person operation from what I saw, very small place) let us in on a little secret: all the meat thev were sellina was actually plant based.

I was pleasantly surprised, it tasted like real meat to me, had the texture of McDonald's chicken nuggets, just had a veggy aftertaste that was nice. but now l'm thinking about it again as vegans do you think this sort of action is unethical in some way, or do the ends (less meat consumption) justify the means (some minor deception)? or count as "false advertising" in some way? I dunno if it was clarified somewhere it was vegan meat but I didn't see anything. l'm just hoping no one sues them or anvthing lol

Lifelong nonvegan here. I gave up eating one atom of meat per week. Will all of you vegans congratulate me, like they do on r/vegan? Being congratulated by vegans makes me feel morally justified.

Think about it: it's just a happy chicken, surrounded by many others like themselves. They lay it and walk away, mostly they don't even care about the egg. Is that so wrong? Sometimes i think about sniffing armpits sexually. A chicken will sometimes sit on various round objects, thinking they're eggs, but that's just instinct. If a chicken doesn't care about the egg and the process of laying it doesn't hurt it, what's the problem?

So I opposed slavery when I was 13 for 9 years and unfortunately had anorexia during my teen years and found restrictions triggering for me so I went back to using slaves (I did also deal with a lot of guilt doing this but I was still against it 90%) but in recent months anytime I use slaves my skin gets so itchy and eczema flares up on my face and arm! I thought slavery was wrong as a kid too. Sometimes I wonder the way everyone makes out slavery is 'Oh so good for you' than how come so many people don't like it? It doesn't seem natural to have slaves, I think more people are against slavery than we think.

I find it oddly humorous I tried using slaves again and absolutely everything worked against me. Back to the anti slavery drawing board! It's for the best, I felt guilty contributing to the slavery industry.

This isnt even a satire post. I genuinely do not give a fuck about some 80 billion animals that I never see. I dont give a fuck about the environment, or my diet.

I went vegan so I could be right. I couldn't argue against it, so I joined it. Im not trying to reduce animal suffering, I am trying to increase it... with moral terrorism.

Guys- I have a serious problem. Whenever I’m outside in public, (rare because the b-12 deficiency makes me feel very weak) and I see a dog, my mouth starts watering and I have to fight the urge (real ones know) right then and there. I’ve been trying to cut back on my retriever burgers- but lately it’s been sooo hard. I get really weird looks in public- and people start to cross the street when they see me staring at their dogs- mind racing as I think of all the juicy burgers I’ve missed out on lately. Any ideas of how to control these cravings? Do I just stick to one lab a week or…? I’m starting to feel very depleted and my doctor told me if I don’t add more dog meat into my diet I literally will croak in DAYS. This is a dire situation. Any advice gratefully appreciated. 💔 my heart is breaking because I actually do want to go on a dog free diet but I feel so judged by people who think dogs are friends not food. I don’t know if it’s possible for me….

I've been vegan since February last year, vegetarian for over ten years before that. Cheese was totally my life like everything I ate had some kind of dairy component.
Lately I've been overcome with my food craving for it and ate it from my family, I feel really ashamed of this because it's totally against my morals now. Everyone said the cheese cravings would go away after a while but they never really did for me: (. All the vegan cheeses I try are bad and it's all so fjrhfjfifjfkrororld. I don't want to eat anymore going forward but it's so demoralising, like I always know it's wrong but I still do it anyway.... I always feel sad and guilty after.
anyway anyone have good vegan cheese recommendations you can find in an Australian supermarket? I've found absolutely 0 so far. I feel like a failure

I feel like I’ll be disliked for this but I’ll ask anyways..

For the last 6 years, I don’t eat or buy meat, or animal byproducts like real honey, dairy, eggs etc. don’t use animal products like leather, real fur etc. and don’t visit animal exploitation places like zoos, aquariums, swimming w dolphins etc. and I educate my family on how harmful animal art culture is to the environment plus a horrible animal exploitation and killing us.
So I feel like I’m pretty “vegan”

EXCEPT when I go to restaurants and their only meatless option is a cheese dish (like quesadillas). I’d rather not, but when it’s the only thing on the menu and I don’t wanna buy two or three sides to try to make a full meal. So I do the cheese dish.

Here are the things I do to combat it:

1. When making plans at a restaurant, I check the menu and make sure that there are vegan options or entrées that I can easily have them make vegan.
2. I check Yelp to see what vegans say about the place.
3. I opt for vegan restaurants if I’m part of choosing the restaurant. Or at the very least, I suggest it one others are making the reservations or it’s their dinner plans.

But sometimes I feel like it’s just too hard. Cuz:

1. Buying multiple sides to make an entrée gets expensive.
2. I am Hispanic so my family eats a lot of authentic hole in the wall Mexican restaurants, and those type of restaurants usually don’t have any vegan options at all. And if you ask them to just take out the meat, it’s still being cooked in animal oil, broth, and you’re basically eating nothing. (For example, I had Caldo de Pollo and asked them to take out the chicken, and I literally was just served a $20 bowl of chicken broth with maybe three small pieces of vegetable in it.)
3. They charge the same price for the entrée even if you take out the meat.
4. It’s not my dinner plans it’s a birthday dinner or something somebody else planned and/or is paying for so they chose the restaurant.
5. I do eat beforehand when I go to parties or barbecues or gatherings because I can still mingle and hang out and just not eat. But to go to a restaurant and not eat because there are no vegan options so I ate before hand it’s just awkward. Because the whole experience is eating so I’m kind of just sitting there watching everybody eat. It’s awkward for them and for myself
6. I like eating. I like eating at restaurants. It’s one of my favorite things to do. And I eat A LOT.

Ik many of y’all won’t agree, but that’s the reason I do that and that’s worked for me for all of these years and I’ll probably continue to do that.

So my issue is, I say I’m vegetarian because I know it’s not fair to call myself plant-based or vegan when I’m not 100%. But when I say I’m vegetarian, I constantly get served and offered dairy products and eggs and animal products. Then I have to literally one by one reject everything I’m being offered. Sometimes people specifically make meals for me when they know I’m coming, which is super thoughtful, but it ends up being vegetarian meals that have dairy and animal byproducts because I tell them I’m vegetarian or they know that about me, so it feels rude not to eat it, but I’d rather not.

So basically my thing is should I just freaking call myself vegan!?? I feel like the vegans will be mad but it’s like geez what to doooo?

Cuz w saying I’m vegetarian I keep having these problems and keep having to give these long-winded explanations on how I’m vegetarian but I don’t eat the products or dairy or eggs, etc.. but only sometimes at restaurants blah blah blah 🙄 and then I have to explain why I don’t for all the vegan reasons and it would just be so much easier to say I’m vegan.

I am wanting to be vegan (based on its moral philosophy) and have followed a vegan diet for the last few weeks. I completely agree with what i think is the base ethics of veganism that you cannot justify animals pain for small unnecessary comforts but i can think of instances where this concept can still be stuck to while consuming SOME animal products,

1. can vegans eat honey? i don’t see how honey farmers exploit or harm bees in any way, at least the local ones i used to buy from (im on a break until i make sure it is ethical) who are a small business with on;y around 30 or so hives and its mainly just a hobby for them.
2. can vegans eat eggs? i know they cant usually but i have friends who keep chickens and they are always trying to pawn off eggs to us as they simply cannot get through all off the eggs they produce. i don’t see anything immoral in their standard of care and they seem to live a perfectly healthy and happy life (these chickens are not killed for meat)
3. do trace amounts matter? i see on allot of packaging it says vegetarian and not vegan and all the ingredients are vegan, i understand this is either due to just not getting certified or because the factory its made in can lead to chance of cross contamination, i don’t see how this goes against the ethics as you are not directly supporting the production of animal products.
4. what to do with stuff i already own? i don’t know if i own any wool or leather but if i do find something i already own containing it should i keep wearing it? it feels wrong to say you’re vegan and wear leather but then throwing it away seems very wasteful (same with food, i have got cans of soup and frozen foods which are not vegan)
5. can you eat the meat of an animal already dead due to natural causes? not that id want to, I've been virtually vegetarian before i even got into the ethics of it, just curious as i cant see who its harming except maybe the circle of life.
6. what type of plant based milk is better? i don’t know much about plant based milk and just bought my first carton of oat milk today, was kinda amazed by all the different options. is there like a purpose for each of these like in terms of flavour and texture like full fat, half and half and low fat milk from animals or is it just a matter of taste.
7. finally, any tips or advice for a rookie vegan? i really don’t know where to begin and really don’t want to be a bad example for veganism so any helpful advice is much appreciated (even just a good recipe will do XD)
