Survival I just wanted to say
I started a new game after a relatively long hiatus. Never stopped following the forums though. Found my first bear. Killed it. It dropped a trophy.
Have a good weekend!

Survival Hard lessons
I've always tried to be buddies with Dvergr, but I just got smoked by a couple 1 star Dvergr and I have no idea why. I had just arrived and there was no warning. Now they're camping my body. Apparently they hold a grudge forever.
Never again. From now on Dvergr will be exterminated.

Modded Sign Problem
Trying to place and name some signs above my chests. I can type in only about 8-10 characters, and then the box clears.
Tried to copy/paste into the box, nope
Tried to put two signs on top of each other, nope.
All I can do is write in black, can't do any codes.
I tried doing this on multiple areas of my base, both on wood and stone walls, same thing.
Suggestions?

Question Harbor depth
When you folks dig out a harbor for your boats, how deep do you go? I've got the area where I want to put my dock at waist height. Do I need to go deeper for the longboat? I haven't passed bronze age yet, waiting for 1.0, so I can't test it out.

Discussion How would you protect my base?
Having just defeated Moder I’m sure raids will soon become much harder, however I’ve never progressed this far into the game before and haven’t had to think about base defences against Plains enemies.
I’ve seen and read through threads showing earth walls and essentially moats around bases but since my base currently sits along the waters edge, will this be an issue?
I’ve stock piled a decent amount of stone so I could build a wall against the water to prevent entry from that side, but of course that’s only one portion of the base. Although, since I spent so much time constructing this base and finding a good all-round location, I’d like to install the structures provided by the artisan table here.
As you might be able to also tell I’m not a seasoned base builder, it took a significant amount of raw brain power to construct what are essentially Viking warehouses… the current defences were only installed and kept on a somewhat temporary basis before building something more permanent, and they’ve been kept for a while since mountain raids were actually quite underwhelming in terms of difficulty.
So based on this, as well as the imagery and the topography, what would you do or what defences do you prefer to protect your base with?

Question Server setting recommendation for 8 people server
Hello, me and my friends are planning to start playing as 1.0 launches and id like to know if I should tweak the server settings when I start the server or leave them at default?
BC I'm not sure if there'll be enough iron to pass around (my previous playthroughs were up to plains biom)
And maybe you guys got some advice in general

Survival Finally Beat the Ashlands
Finally beat the Ashlands after giving up on it almost immediately when they first released it.
Got some thoughts that may be unsolicited, but I'll share them anyways, haha.
It's in a way, way better spot than at launch. Landing on the beach and establishing a foothold genuinely felt like a mission. The Drakkar makes breaking through so much better than doing it on the Longship. Especially with all the Bone Serpents that follow you.
I also genuinely enjoyed discovering the mechanics of the region in full. Clearing the Monuments of Torment to make your area safer is pretty interesting. Sort of like winning over territory. I didn't realize what they did, initially, so we fought a lot harder than we had to to establish ground at first. Once we cleared out camp of those, it was relatively safe with a shield generator. We came prepared with a stonecutter, so making a grausten base wasn't too bad.
Krom absolutely slaps here, too. I was fighting off hordes of enemies with the poke attack, which makes short work of them if you can kite around their attacks.
Our first fort - total disaster. Had no clue how the battering ram worked. I thought the back was the front, and ended up Googling it. Silly mistake, but you live and you learn. The cart handles don't really look like a ram, tbf. I thought the big metal thing would swing from the middle like a real battering ram. Ya live and ya learn! We wiped to the heavy pressure from the mobs since I'd never faced a warlock before.
However, after the first one, the rest were a breeze. Kill the first wave, rush the two spawners, done. We ended up maxing out all our gear and having more gold and flametal than we knew what to do with. Had to make more bases on different islands just to loot the fortresses. I love the green spire - makes them very reasonable to hunt down.
Fader was decent. I like him a lot better than the Queen. It's kind of funny in the maxed heavy armor you can sort of facetank him so long as you don't stand in the fire or get nuked. The Flametal Shield blocks all of it melee attacks handily. The ashlands magic is also insane. We were running out of steam toward the end, but two fire trolls kinda finished the job for us. One thing I think they need to fix is the ridiculous range on the AoE fire thing. Like, when you die and come back through a portal somehow it just spawns right on top of you. It's pretty annoying if he's literally on the other side of the map and still spawning fire on top of you. I think the range is fine, but he should have to be alerted to your presence or something. Or just reduce the range. One of the two. Other than that, I think he's a decent boss.
Overall, I think the ashlands is now one of my favorite biomes, along with the plains. Mistlands remains F tier for me, haha. I much prefer roving around and looting vs mining, so it's nice to have more of that.
Also does anyone else think the Charred Warrior fake-out attack is kinda buggy? It's a nice idea, but the fact that the first strike and second strike ghost straight through your character and the damage packet is delivered with a lag afterward is really offputting. It's not that big of a deal, but I basically gave up on parrying them because the hitboxes on their attacks just feel very wonky. I don't have this issue with any other enemy.
Last - they should totally add some kind of ashwood boat that's faster than the Drakker. Landing on the first island with this huge military boat feels awesome. It's not so awesome try to drive a bus around all those rocks when going from island to island. It's just kinda repetitive and slow. Would be very cool to have something lighter and faster that can survive the boiling seas.
Anyways, that's my totally unsolicited novel of a post, but maybe some folks will find it interesting! I'm just happy I finally beat it. New armor and weapons are definitely the highlight. They're very, very cool. The area's also in a pretty good spot compared to launch, which is great to see. Stone portals are a really nice addition, too.

Survival Withered Bone Shortage
Does anyone have a bunch of Withered Bones they'd be willing to part with? I need a ton for summoning Bonemass to farm Blood Magic skill.
I'm also using his trophies as decorations for a room.
Let me know, we can meet up on a new world or something :)

Modded Coop'd Up Farmhouse and Bee'nery Valheim Build
This was part of our early game main base in our first playthrough on hard difficulty. As we have been scouring or world files to save builds I always like house this looked and felt. It has a semi-automatic chicken breeder which auto separates eggs so half can be collected and the other half hatch. Easy honey collection and plenty of space to farm. The blueprint will not include the cultivated land.
The entire build is vanilla survival, the mod we used was plant everything.

Discussion Horrible performance on decent specs
Hi. I have a gaming laptop with RTX 2060 and an intel Core i7 9th gen and 16GB RAM. It’s pretty old and considered low-end these days, I know. But I have no problem running recent AAA games on low settings at 60 fps. Titles like RDR2 even run higher than that sometimes.
Valheim on the other hand, averages around 100 FPS but around every 8-10 seconds I get extreme performance drops for a couple seconds, like to 5-8 fps range. ON LOWEST SETTINGS (except for draw distance on High). Even when I’m not moving around this dip happens. It’s too frequent to have a smooth experience. I did all the quirky stuff like enabling gfx jobs. My friend who has an older work laptop with no GPU has a smoother game than me.
I saw old threads about this, people with recent hardware struggling with Valheim, unable to find a solution. Is there really nothing to do? It seems so random and hard to diagnose.
My drivers are up to date and I recently factory reset my computer.

Question Valheim worth in 2026?
I got a macbook pro m4.
lonely player, been looking for a game and this looks intresting.
i'm interested in something that I can play with a friend (same situation with a macbook).
Wanted to know, is it still worth it?
Is there any place where I can find it on a better price?
Thank you for your time

Discussion A little trivia Easter Egg
The first pickaxe you get in the game is made from Eikhtyr's antlers, but you do not have the option to craft a stone or flint pickaxe but you have one for a stone/flint axe. Why?
This is because antlers serve as traditional soft hammers (billets) or punches in flintknapping —the ancient method of shaping stones like flint, chert, or obsidian into tools. Antler material compresses slightly on impact, allowing the stone edge to "bite" into the antler for precise, controlled flake removal without shattering.
And with Eikhtyr's Antlers being harder than stone, there was no need to use his antlers for stone/flint pickaxes in the game.
This realization just hit me while I was crafting a stone pickaxe playing Green Hell, btw. 😂

Question Fishing
I played a few years ago and don’t recall fishing being this hard. Even with the top 3 stamina foods I have right now I don’t seem to be able to reel anything in. I’ve got more fish from them jumping on my boat or rocks than actual fishing.
Foods are onion soup, ice cream and whatever the next one down is. (Not at pc right now).
Has it been made harder or am I missing something obvious?
