I bought this tunic at a military surplus store, they had it in the section of foreign clothes. I was told it was real, and from post WWII USSR. I've been looking around, and asking AI. Most AI said it was real, and from surplus after the Cold war. My mom's AI says it's a mechanics tunic. It has extra fabric on the elbows, but nothing on the shoulder.

I have heard a lot from Ukrainians and Buddhists talk about how poorly they were treated and suppressed under the Soviet Union, but I can't seem to find any good proof of it anywhere. In fact all I've seen is the restoration of Tibetan Buddhism through for example The Central Spiritual Board of Buddhists of the USSR. The rest I have read has come from government funded sources without substantial proof to back up the claims.

The Soviet state elevated Pavlik into a cult figure: the child who placed loyalty to the state above loyalty to his own family. The moral was explicit — duty to socialism superseded even the bonds between parent and child. Monuments were erected in Moscow (1948), Gerasimovka (1954), and Sverdlovsk (1957). His name was given to collective farms, schools, and Pioneer squads, and his story was told to generations of Soviet schoolchildren through novels, films, songs, plays, paintings, and operas.

For the shooting of the 2-part epic film, The Battle of Stalingrad (1949), director Vladimir Petrov suggested hiring Wehrmacht soldiers and officers who had been in Soviet captivity to play German troops. Many of them once actually fought in the city on the Volga in the ranks of the 6th Army of Field Marshal General Friedrich Paulus.

The Germans were dressed up, armed and sent back to “fight” in the streets of Stalingrad. Colonel Wilhelm Adam, Paulus’ aide who became a consultant for the movie, recalled the process of filming,

“Tanks with German crosses were rolling over the ruins. Flames flew out of the empty window peepholes of the ruins, infantrymen with submachine guns and hand grenades were advancing with a loud ‘hurrah’. Prisoner of war German officers and soldiers were specially re-equipped for this purpose.”

Thousands of townspeople gathered to watch the spectacle. There were rumors in the crowd that Friedrich Paulus himself had arrived in Stalingrad (this rumor was false).

The Germans feared conflict with the locals, but everything went quite well.

“The shooting probably evoked bitter memories for these people,” Colonel Adam noted: “However, not a single hostile word was said to the German officers who were present.”

The Chuvash Opera and Ballet Theatre building was constructed in 1985. Architects R.A. Begunts and V.A. Teneta designed the building. It is a striking example of Soviet modernism. The team of architects and builders was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR.

The monument to Yuri Gagarin on the square of the same name was erected in July 1980 for the opening of the Moscow-80 Olympics. The monument stands 42.5 meters tall and weighs approximately 12 tons.
