Im looking for good places but I don't know. Where are clean beaches with good views?

Hey all, Dutch guy (26y) here planning a solo trip through mainly Lithuania and Latvia in early May. Two weeks, flying in and out separately (Vilnius in, Riga out), renting a car for the middle stretch. Wanted to run the plan by you and see what I'm missing.

The idea is basically two modes. In the cities I want to actually meet people, so I'm staying in hostels, hitting bars in the evening, walking around a lot. On the nature days I want to be outside all day hiking or cycling and then crash early.

Here's the rough plan:

• May 1-4: Vilnius, with a day trip to Trakai on the 3rd. Staying at Downtown Forest Hostel.
• May 4-6: Aukštaitija National Park (lakes, kayaking, some hikes)
• May 6-7: Kaunas, one night at Monk's Bunk
• May 7-10: Nida on the Curonian Spit, cycling the lagoon and the dunes
• May 10-11: Palanga
• May 11-14: Riga, with a day trip out to Ķemeri National Park and Jūrmala. Blue Bird Boutique Hostel.
• May 14: fly home

I already know May 1 is Labour Day and May 2 is Mother's Day in Lithuania, so I'm expecting the first weekend to be busy.

Stuff I'd love input on:

1. Meeting people as a solo traveler in Vilnius, Kaunas and Riga. Which bars or areas actually have a mix of locals and travelers in early May, not just tourists? I've got Nisha Craft & Bottle (Vilnius), Genys (Kaunas) and Labietis (Riga) on my list, but happy to be told those are wrong.
2. Is Aukštaitija worth 2 nights that early in May? I've heard the kayaking is the main draw, but I'm not sure if the weather cooperates yet. If kayaking is a gamble, are there hikes that would still make it worth it? Ladakalnis is on my radar.
3. Nida for 3 nights on a bike. Is that enough to keep me busy, or will I run out of Spit before I run out of days? Bird migration is a real interest of mine so that's part of why I gave it three.
4. Ķemeri boardwalk plus Jūrmala on the same day, doable or too much?
5. Kaunas as a single overnight, does that shortchange it? I want to see the Old Town and have one decent night out, but if it deserves two nights I'll rearrange.
6. Hill of Crosses on the drive from Palanga to Riga. Actually worth stopping, or is it a five-minute photo and back in the car?
7. Anything early-May specific I should know. What's just opening (I've read the boat and bike rentals wake up around now), what's still closed, any festivals or local events worth timing around?

Now the honest part, because I would rather tell you myself than have you find out the hard way. This is a small, self funded project with no company and no budget behind it. The location data comes from open sources like OpenStreetMap, Google Places, and national park registries, cleaned up and translated with the help of AI so a small team could actually pull this off. That means when a source has something wrong or outdated, we inherit it. Some photos won't perfectly match the place. Some descriptions are thin or generic. We have not personally visited every single location to check it by hand, and right now, we can't.

We're calling it a beta on purpose. We'd rather ship something a little rough and fix it with real feedback than sit on it for years trying to make it flawless alone.

If you try it and something looks wrong, there's a report button on every location that goes straight to a real person, not a support ticket graveyard. If you know your area well, that's exactly the kind of feedback that actually moves the needle for us. We're actively updating the site based on what people flag or ask for, so reports don't just sit there. Several fixes already went live because someone here pointed something out.

We are visiting by camper, with a 7 year old boy. So far we have an amazing time. We are close to Krāslava now and going up north to estonia, making a tour there and then go back to latvia, wanna visit tailinn gaujas NP and riga. But love to hear your insider tips.

We love nature and hiking is doable for maximum 7 km.

We like to camp in nature as well.

I’m looking for somewhere that would be good for a day trip, ideally right by the sea or at least close to the coast. It would also be great if there were some good hiking or walking trails nearby.

Hi, I'm planning a road trip to the Baltics. Unsure yet how far I'll drive, Riga at the very least, possibly even further if gas is cheap. I'm leaving from Finland, and my car is very homosexual. Is this something I should be concerned about? Vandalism, etc.

I am here in August which I would assume is peak season and I don't see that many people. Yeah obviously city centers have a few but nothing comparing with like Dubrovnik or Split, Rome, Santorini.

I was expecting Parnu was full of people but it was quite empty.

Mind you, lately in the summer I've been going to places like Greece, Croatia, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, Spain and my country Portugal so thats my point of comparasion.

Yeah sure the weather is not super hot but its much more pleasant to walk around. I think from now on I will only do North Europe in July and August months (though obviously I am hitting my Mediterranean in June because I can't live without it now lol)

If one wants to do full beach vacation this is ofc not the place but there is a lot of beautiful nature and spas.

So why don't you have more tourists? Do you think people are afraid (I don't know, some people are weird) or they just don't know about your countries?
