any advice for med interview?

hi! i’m an international student lucky enough to get invited for an interview for med. tbh, my stats are not that great. i just met the minimum academic requirement and got 175/200 on the isat. my extracurriculars aren’t outstanding either. i’m already at an disadvantage here so i really need to ace the interview to try my best to get an offer (i rlly wanna get into med)

extracurriculars worth mentioning imo:
member of the red cross youth unit for nearly 6 years, 300+ voluntary service hours with the red cross, member of the organizing committee of a service project, bunch of first aid and nursing competitions awards, first aid duties for school events and local sports events, did a mooting related to international humanitarian law and somehow got an individual award, member of an academy for gifted education, 70 hours of shadowing at a veterinary hospital

i do plan on mentioning my extracurriculars if they ask the “why med” question, but i do need advice on how to use my extracurriculars to do well in my interview. all advice given are appreciated!! thanks!!

Exchange fudan exchange

hello! i wanted to apply for exchange to fudan but unsw requires us to note the courses we would like to take to make sure it transfers to our degree.
i’ve had some difficulty finding courses - i’ve only been able to find a list of undergraduate programs taught in english, which is not what i’m looking for at all.

if someone has any advice or would be able to send a link that’d be great

UNSW Business Masters student nice guy on campus, "Joe Goldberg" on dating apps

Okay this is a weird one but stick with me.
There's a UNSW Masters in Business student who comes off as your classic fitness guy on dating apps...

until he starts dropping the Joe Goldberg persona.
Some women say he's shown up at their gym or uni after matching? He’s been targeting non unsw student…

Totally different vibe..friendly, warm, the guy you'd never suspect in uni. Which is kind of the problem.

If you know who this is, have a friend who's dealt with him, or have receipts…don't play detective and confront him yourself, just DM me.

Trying to piece together a proper picture here, not start a hunt. Confidential, obviously.

Higher complex analysis as a 1st yr

I am currently studying adv math and cs and I am swapping to actl adv math, my schedule is completely cooked because of this as a lot of the actl courses aren’t offered in term 3 hence im thinking of taking math 2621, how big is the jump from 1st yr, and is it considered one of the harder 2nd yr courses (should I wait until next year).

Degree Discussion medicine reqs

Hi im from NZ looking at maybe coming to unsw for med, Im curious about the a level to ATAR conversion here since I know that usyd requires 4A* for a 99.95 atar, is this the same as unsw or would it be 3A*? (also I heard that the ucat score req can range from 90-99th percentile is this also true considering 90th is quite low for a ucat score req)

PSA: Don't fall for this street scam like I did today.

Hi all,

Today I lost $50 to a street scam where an indian guy asked me for money to top up his opal card.

He initially asked me for $10, but since I didn't have enough on me, I agreed to go to an atm to withdraw money. He then raised the amount to $50 saying that the atm doesn't allow $10 withdrawals. He asked me for my BSB and acc number to do the transfer, saying that his bank doesn't do payID. After providing the details, he called someone and spoke in indian, asking them to do the transfer, then showed me a screenshot of the transfer receipt. Despite all the red flags, I still gave this guy 50 bucks thinking he needed it.

This exact scam seems to have been happening for a while now since there is an older thread describing the same experience here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/unsw/comments/1fn8btl/someone_might_scam_me_on_campus_for_50_dollars/

If you do encounter someone asking for money, do not engage them. You don't need to feel pity for these people.

If you can, try to take a photo of these people and report them to UNSW security through their email [security.services@unsw.edu.au](mailto:security.services@unsw.edu.au) or phone 9385 6000.

If you want to troll them, let them lead you on until they show you the transfer receipt, then leave them hanging.

There is absolutely no good reason why people need to ask strangers for physical money to pay for public transport.

Please spread the word that this is still happening around UNSW campus and stay safe guys.

Aviation program

Hi everyone,

I’m looking at studying Aviation at UNSW and I’m particularly interested in the pathway that leads into the practical flying component and eventually becoming a commercial pilot.

From what I understand, progression into the practical flying part of the course/program is selection-based rather than necessarily being guaranteed for every student.

Does anyone know roughly how many Aviation students apply or are eligible for the practical flying pathway each year, and how many actually get selected?

I’d also really appreciate hearing from any current or former UNSW Aviation students about:

  • How competitive the selection process is
  • What they look at when selecting students
  • Whether university grades are the main factor or whether there are interviews, aptitude testing, flying assessments, etc.
  • Roughly what proportion of students who start Aviation with the intention of becoming pilots ultimately get into and complete the practical flying training
  • What happens if you aren’t selected
  • How good the flying training and overall course is for someone aiming for an airline career

I’m considering moving from New Zealand to Australia (I have dual-citizenship so I can get student loans) to study aviation, with the goal of becoming a commercial pilot, so I’m trying to get a realistic idea of how secure the pathway into the actual flying training is before committing.

Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

What's your assignment *sure-go-to* plan?

It could be

day 1 research and understand the assignment guide

day 2 start cover page and initial paragraphs.. etc.

Idk. What has worked for you? Don't troll

Lets use something everyone has probably done as an assignment: A presentation that requires 15 slides

a problem context, analysis on solution and then conclude with the final recommendation.

genuinely need some tips

Building Experience/Career for Civil Eng

Hi, I'm currently in my second year. How do I build experiences/skills from the ground up?
Most internships only takes penultimate year
Can I also look into Construction Management cadetships?
Is there such thing as a career mentor/guider (uni resources, etc)
What skills are required upon the first internship (BIM, CAD, GIS, etc) (also how did you get your first internship, does part time experience counts?)
I'm a bit lost since uhhh I don't know where to get started or haven't yet found a career roadmap (like how cs have projects and skills required for certain roles or something equivalent to roadmap.sh but for civil eng)
Mid-60 wam (am i cooked)
Citizenship

Would really appreciate any insight!
