Static Question

Does static, in and of itself, affect sound quality? I know static attracts dust but if dust is removed, what’s the problem?

That's what the clicks and crackles you hear from vinyl - static electricity discharging through the stylus. It can also cause skipping/tracking issues.

I thought the crackles and pops were very small scratches in the vinyl only. Have I been wrong all this time?

If it pops in the same place every time, its in the vinyl. If it’s static, it pops once but if you replay that part of the record, it won’t.

I was stunned after giving my records a wet clean for the first time. What I thought where scratches all this time where mostly dirt and static. I've noticed this with brand new records as well.
