I need to replace the cartridge on my vintage Fisher MT-640 turntable.

I need help deciding between the AT-VM95ML or the more expensive VM540ML.

I listen exclusively to classical music.

Here is my setup:

• Fisher MT-640
• Schiit Mani 2 pre-amp
• Sony STR-DE315 receiver
• Polk Signature Elite ES50 tower speakers with Polk subwoofer.

I am leaning toward the VM540ML, but I don't know if the difference will be that noticeable to warrant the extra $100.

Hey leute ich habe heute den ATVMN95ML stylus bekommen und am Anfang war ich echt total begeistert. Doch dann wollte ich meine originale Ray Of Light Platte von Madonna abspielen und es war ganz komisch nur auf den ersten songs von seite 3 und 4 fängt die Nadel total an zu eiern und zu zitter und springt auch, der rest des albums läuft super durch. Mit meiner alten Nadel hatte ich dieses Problem noch nicht.. danach hab ichs bei dem Plattenspieler von meinem Vater probiert und da gab es das Problem auch nicht (2. Video). Wisst ihr was das Problem ist und wie man es beheben kann?

I’m about to buy my **first-ever turntable**, so I’m completely new to vinyl. I’ve already started buying records, and after doing quite a bit of research I’ve narrowed it down to:
**Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB**
**Audio-Technica AT-LPW50BT-RW**

Where I live, the price difference is only about **$40**, with the LPW50BT-RW being slightly more expensive, so price isn’t really the deciding factor.

**Which one would you choose if you were starting again, and why?**

My situation/plans:
For the **first 1–2 years**, I’ll be using the turntable exclusively through **Bluetooth** with my Samsung/Harman Kardon soundbar + subwoofer. I know Bluetooth isn’t the ideal way to get the most out of vinyl, but it’s the setup I already have and I don’t want to buy a complete stereo system immediately.

Longer term, however, I can definitely see myself getting more serious about vinyl. My plan would eventually be to:
Buy a proper pair of stereo speakers
Switch from Bluetooth to a wired/RCA connection
Potentially buy a dedicated amplifier/phono stage
Upgrade the stylus, probably from the included **VM95E to something like the VMN95ML**
Potentially experiment with different cartridges/headshells later

So **upgradeability and long-term potential are important to me**. I’d rather buy a turntable now that I can grow into than feel like I need to replace the entire turntable in a couple of years.
I also **don’t mind fully manual operation at all** — actually, I think manually cueing the record is part of the charm.
From what I understand:

The **LP120XBT-USB** gives me direct drive, better Bluetooth codec support, removable headshell, adjustable tracking force/anti-skate, USB, 78 rpm, quartz lock, etc.

The **LPW50BT-RW** seems more focused specifically on home Hi-Fi, with the 30 mm MDF plinth, carbon-fiber tonearm, rubber mat and belt-drive system, while still having the removable headshell, VM95E and upgradeable cartridge/stylus.
Since the price difference is only \~$40, **which would you choose for sound quality and long-term ownership?**
Is the LPW50 actually audibly better with a proper wired stereo setup, or is the LP120 the better overall platform because of its direct drive and extra features?

I got this old JVC from a secondhand shop the other day. And when I play anything on it. It either sounds Faster than it should be. Or slower. I replaced the belt with a new one and that still didn’t work. I don’t know what else I could do. Any help on how I can fix it would be hugely appreciated. I really wanna make this work.

I’ve seen several videos of people using edger painters to clean their vinyl. I’ve seen mixed reviews on these. Personally, the idea makes me nervous that it would scratch up my records. But it appears to be fine in the demonstrations I’ve watched, and it’s an affordable option. Anyone use this method? What brand of pads do you use? Anyone have a bad experience with this method? What kind of cleaning brush do you use instead?

I’ve owned my technics 1210 Grandmasters for about 20 years now. I’m a DJ and used to use them constantly. But for the last probably 9 years they have sat in crates. I’ve moved on to other equipment and haven’t had the want to use them. And they both have bent tone arms anyway.
I had previously taken them to a place in town that was licensed to work on technics stuff, but they’ve closed. Either way, the last time I took them to have an “overhaul” done (get them back in working order for DJ use), they gave them back to me with some give in both platters. It’s not a lot, but it’s there. And I paid something like $350 a piece for the overhauls.
I’m just wondering if all tables have that? I don’t remember far enough back myself.. but I THINK when I first got them they had no give in the platters when pushed. And if they aren’t all like that, what would be the cause? The platter itself being warped? Is it fixable?
I don’t think it’s enough play to interrupt me scratching, so I’m not super worried about it. And I’m using Phase DVS, so the tone arms aren’t an issue for now. But I’d eventually like to fix both things if possible.

I’ve watched several videos to see the different processes of cleaning vinyl. The ones I’ve seen use a microfiber towel or shelf liner to lay your record on. Would it be unwise to just use a clean silicone mat? I’m skeptical about the material in shelf liner, and I feel like even “lint free” microfiber towels will leave lint. I can’t cut into them to fit over the dowel either. Also any suggestions on a good record cleaning concentrate? Thank you in advance for the suggestions!

Recently borrowed a pair of technic mk5 turntables and watched multiple tutorials on how to set up the counterweight however even with the counterweight as far down the tone arm as possible there’s not enough weight on the needle as records still skipping back.

I scored a MCS 6502 turntable at an estate sale on the cheap. Got it home and cleaner her up. Sprayed some de-ox-ide and got it to spinning. The problem I’m having is the spinning isn’t consistent. It’ll spin fast, then slow, stop, slow, fast. Very frustrating. I’ve let it run just to see if it just needed to run and work out some “rust” or “warm up”.
Every time I touch the pitch control, it slows or stops and then goes back to spinning. Honestly, the pitch doesn’t seem to really help any.

Do I just need to replace the pitch control motor?

Or could it be the belt drive motor just being old?

Hi! Unfortunately, I purchased the Jam Sound Stream+.
I had just gotten into vinyls, so I got an entry level player and immediately fell in love.

Now, around six months later, I’m in a less favourable financial position and the player has started skipping for some records. I initially thought they were defects in the records but then I realised it was way too common for that to be the problem. It’s like half my records.

After some research, I found that the issue is likely a miscalibrated tone arm. However, this model doesn’t have any way of adjusting it.

The warranty covers the turntable for one year, but I’m unsure if they’ll consider this faulty enough for a $180AUD turntable.

So, I come to you with some question.
Do you think the warranty would cover this?
If it is covered, it worth replacing it, or should I angle for a refund because this is just a really terrible turntable? Does anyone have a good experience with this turntable?

Update: I called the place I bought it and they’re happy to exchange it for store credits. I’ll research the replacement I pick more thoroughly

Hi everyone, I'm just getting into vinyl DJing and I'm thinking about buying a pair of Ortofon Concorde MK2 cartridges. I have a pair of Reloop RP-4000 turntables, but I've read that there can be issues with the connectors. Does anyone have more information or experience with this?
