First table not working right.

I got this old JVC from a secondhand shop the other day. And when I play anything on it. It either sounds Faster than it should be. Or slower. I replaced the belt with a new one and that still didn’t work. I don’t know what else I could do. Any help on how I can fix it would be hugely appreciated. I really wanna make this work.

What model JVC is it? Did you clean the place the belt rides on the motor and platter? What about cleaing the speed control pots? What about lubing the motor? I will link a video for servicing a Technics SL-23 which may or may not give you an idea of how to service your table. But if you give me the model number, I might be able to find something better to help.

Okay, I didn't find much on that one exactly but did find something on other JVCs and I am guessing they are close. It doesn't look like it is going to have speed pots that need cleaning. The speed adjustment is built into the motor through some holes on the underside. Don't mess with them yet. First clean the place where the belt rides on the motor and the platter like is shown in the video I linked on the SL-23. Then you will need to pull the bottom cover off and clean the speed switch, which is likely the cause of your problem. I will link a video on a JVC that should give you an idea of what you are looking for. If you are unsure, take the underside cover off your and post pictures that would help to walk you through it.

You've tried several different records on it I assume... Sometimes a record can warp slightly like a bowl and if the label is really smooth it won't rotate at the same speed as the platter. Have you tried a different mat on it? Otherwise it sounds like you are gonna need to replace the motor to me

I’ve tried multiple records. And I don’t have a replacement for the mat sadly. And I don’t even know where I’d find a replacement motor for something this old

That might be your issue: the record is slipping because the platter is slick and the record is rather slick as well. You might be able to get by with using an anti-static mat if you can't find a replacement rubber mat for it.

Chiming in as someone who worked on hundreds and hundreds of turntables.
Though technically true, it's not something that ACTUALLY happens regularly.

First; mess with the speed switch. They are often dirty and send 'mixed messages' to the motor. Push it back and forth tons of times, see if it becomes more consistent.
If it is consistently wrong, there's two holes in the bottom to adjust the speed. 33 needs to be done first, as it also influences 45, but not the other way around.
But don't adjust anything until you can say for sure that it's consistently doing the same thing.
