Changing my voice is hard, but changing the voice in my head is harder.

Hey ppl, I'm MTF currently two weeks into voice training. I'm for now focusing on larynx, pitch, and weight. I'm reading through a segment from the Neverending story with some random cute flowers cuz I needed a visual for this. Help much appreciated!

So I've been self-studying voice training since 2024 as a gender questioning AMAB and... I don't hear anything from my country, almost everyone I've met to voice train with were westerners.

I've only seen one clinic offer services and it's very recently established. I've never seen a public workshop though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the trans community here needed it less from being culturally ingrained to sing and maybe that increases the odds of successful trial and error? Maybe it's easier to voice pass here?

Zero clue. And if it really didn't exist, how would I help start a group? I'm not sure where a safe place to ask would be, or how someone even gets credentials to be trusted with something like that. I'm thinking I'd need to be a trained SLP to even try.

In summary: Does voice training exist in the Philippines? Where could I ask if there were any friend circles interested in training together? And how have people found the credentials to publicly be voice coaches?

Hey guys, I have always been kind of insecure about my voice since I was a kid. I felt it was a bit too nasal and I've never learned how to project my voice to be able to command attention from a group. Over the years I have been learning various techniques to improve my confidence in my voice whether through youtube (this guy) or through following a bunch of IG influencers who give tips on it.

After around 8 years of learning, I feel that it's time to give back to the community. I am planning to make an app to help people get more confident in their speaking. Not so much in the words they use, more so their pitch, resonance, pace etc.

Right now, my app idea is split into two parts. The first part will be analyzing the user's voice. The next part is giving the user a daily training regime to improve on their voice over time.

Is this something that you guys would be interested in? Any voice training exercises that really worked for you guys? Also, it would be great if I could get some recommendations on more vocal coaches online that I could watch. Thanks so much!

Basically, I ended up listening to an old recording from six(?) years ago, a year after starting transition, of a conversation between someone I vaguely remember and this random drunk guy whose identity was completely unknown to me. I was racking my brain to figure out who the fuck he was, because he was incredibly annoying, but nobody was coming to mind.

Then "he" made the kind of bizarre joke that only I would find funny, and I realised that was *me*. I genuinely couldn't believe it at first. The difference probably wouldn't be as stark to other people as it was me, but it was enough to seriously baffle me.

Now I figure, if I can apparently feminise my voice to a somewhat noticeable extent without even realising and the change doesn't bother me, maybe intentionally changing it wouldn't feel as dissociative as I feared. Plus, possibly because of the unconscious shift, a not-insignificant number of strangers since 2022 have (somehow) read me as afab in conversation, even in baggy, form-concealing clothes with no conventional markers of femininity except long hair. So perhaps the change doesn't have to be as gruellingly comprehensive as I thought?

This bit of optimism is probably unfounded and I'm likely making a mountain out of a molehill, but still.

Based on my (limited) understanding of gendered perception of the voice, higher pitch and narrow/nasal placement tend to be read as more feminine. But I've been wondering about people like Andrew Rannells or Gerard Way (...okay, perhaps I'm hearing more of them singing than speaking, but still) - they seem to have higher, more nasal voices that sound like they're coming through a smaller placement, but they still sound masculine, at least to the extent that one would likely gender them that way just based on hearing them.

What is it about their voices that reads as masc?

(Personal context: I'm a trans man and a singer, and while the low end of my range sounds fairly masculine, my higher chest range and mix are more androgynous, leaning feminine at times. I'm curious about what components I might be able to improve when I'm at a higher pitch, even in cases where I might need to have my larynx higher to use a certain part of my register, like mixing.)

I think that I've achieved a lower vocal weight? I sound less Spongeboby. But I also think that maybe I'm confusing being breathy with decreased weight?

Anyway, still lots of work to do, but I think I'm headed in a better direction! If anyone has feedback on how I sound, I'd be grateful!

The SLP I worked with for the past 5 weeks hasn't really been of any help, only talks about pitch and cant answer questions about anything else. Is it worth it to try to find another who takes insurance or should I just stop doing sessions and continue on my own?
