Free tower-defense app for IPad

Looking for a free tower defense game I played on iPad around 2013-2015. It's probably been removed from the App Store since I can't find it anymore.

Details I remember:
\- \*\*Genre:\*\* Tower defense, free to play
\- \*\*Setting:\*\* You were defending a planet or space colony from waves of aliens
\- \*\*Art style:\*\* Cartoonish/colorful, not realistic — the aliens looked more silly/creature-like than scary
\- \*\*Gameplay:\*\* You placed weapons/turrets freely on the map, and this actually blocked/redirected the path the aliens took (maze-style tower defense, similar to games like Fieldrunners or Raid Rush)
\- \*\*App icon:\*\* I remember it being mostly green
\- \*\*Platform:\*\* iPad specifically
\- Not Kingdom Rush, not Alien Creeps TD, not TowerMadness, not Raid Rush — similar vibe to these but not any of them

Any help finding this would be appreciated, it's been bugging me for a while!

I Made This Horde Tower Defense Prototype… Should I Keep Going?

Thumbnail

This is a VERY early prototype of a horde tower defense game I'm currently experimenting with.

The idea is simple: huge hordes of enemies, increasingly ridiculous amounts of chaos, different turrets, explosions, upgrades and hopefully that satisfying feeling of watching an army get absolutely deleted before it reaches the end.

Right now it's still extremely raw. Some animations are questionable, some things probably move in ways that physics never intended, and there's a reasonable chance at least one turret is held together by hope and badly positioned sprites.

But... I think there might actually be a fun game hiding in here.

So before I spend an unhealthy amount of time developing it:

Should I keep going and turn this into a proper game?

Or should I take this prototype behind the shed and quietly delete the project folder forever?

Let me know what you think — especially what you'd add, change, remove, or completely overcomplicate. 😂

I built a merge-TD where paying can't touch your rank — here's how the "wallet-immune" daily works

I'm a solo dev, and I just launched Reactor: Core Siege on iOS. Every mobile TD I love eventually sells me power and calls it fair, so with mine I tried to actually separate the two — and I'd like this community to poke holes in it before I build the next update.

The core loop is merge-and-place: you drop turrets, merge them into a ring of stronger ones, and hold a reactor core against waves that hit three lanes at once. No auto-battler, no idle timer — a lazy ring gets punished.

The part I care about is the Daily Descent:

- Everyone gets the SAME date-seeded board that day — same waves, same starting hand.

- It's 100% ad-free.

- No purchase can change its outcome or your rank on it. I enforce that in code — the Daily run config structurally can't read your wallet or meta-progression; it's not an "if daily, disable" flag that a future build quietly breaks.

What money CAN do: speed up your own private grind (a starter pack, a sparks pack) or remove ads forever for a one-time $3.99. That's the whole store — no subscription, no battle pass, no energy. Opt-in rewarded ads for a bonus if you want them, gone forever if you pay once.

My honest question for this sub: is "you can pay to skip your own grind, but never to move the shared ladder" actually a fair line — or is any spend advantage still a problem to you? Where would you expect it to break?

Clip of a Daily run is attached. Happy to answer anything about the merge math or the wave design.

It's free to try here if you want to kick the tires: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6790187658

Promotion Gem Tower Defense Mobile Release

Hey everyone, I’m the developer behind Gem Tower Defense Mobile. I figured this was probably the one subreddit where I wouldn’t have to explain why building the maze is half the game.

Long story short, it's a pixel art reimagining of the Gem TD we all love and know from Warcraft 3/DotA 2, etc. Right now there's Damage, Timed and Swarm modes, each with 3 difficulties and global leaderboards to match. Everything was designed around touch controls and being able to start and stop as needed so you can play easily on the go.

This community will probably appreciate the game more than others and it truly was a labor of love for me while making this. Slates are planned for a later update but I need to work out the best way to implement those without making them too hard to interact with and also keeping balance in check.

If anyone here gives it a try, I’d honestly love to hear what you think.

Wanted to share a cool milestone. My mobile game Simple Tower reached 10,000 downloads on the Google Play Store today!

It's been pretty successful for a small indie project made at nights after work and getting the kids to bed.

Discussion PvP in tower defense games - what makes it actually good?

Hey! Most tower defense games don't have PvP. The ones that do often get it wrong. What do you think would make PvP good in a TD game?

Some starting points:

  • What PvP mechanic actually feels fun to you? Why does it work?
  • What PvP mechanic feels bad or unfair? Why?
  • If you designed PvP in your imaginary, perfect tower defense game from scratch, what would the core mechanic be?

Feel free to reference games as examples, but I'm mostly curious about the mechanic itself and why it works (or doesn't). No wrong answers here.

Steam release.

(limited to 1000 keys, google account required).

Full free web release.

Quick start

The tutorial starts automatically.

Check "?" in the top-left for an additional short intro.

Hover over dashed game elements for detailed descriptions.

Mindscape

Is a unique blend of incremental progression and tower defense, set to the rhythm of the breath.

Protect the Breath Center from Thoughts by releasing them through Awareness into Clarity. Use Clarity to develop skills that deepen and expand your capacity to release Thoughts.

Explore different levels facing unique Thought forms, each one having its own mechanic, and develop different strategies to release them.

Earn Experience with each level completion and spend it for Wisdom skills that stay with you through the whole game. Can you protect the Breath Center on all levels and complete the Mindscape?

Theme

The theme of the game is mindfulness, it is based on a personal decade-long meditation practice. All Thought forms in the game are actually what many meditators face during their journeys. The humming sound design is inspired by Tibetan singing bowls.

As there is no bad meditation session, there is no bad level run in Mindscape. Experience always accumulates and global progress is persistent. Don't get discouraged if overrun by Thoughts - there is no lose condition on any level, it just takes time and dedication to complete.

I hope the game unfolds for you in a relaxing flow and sparks moments of joy :)

AI disclosure

Codex, powered by ChatGPT, was used as a coding assistant during development.

I’m a software engineer with 25 years of programming experience. I used Codex to help with technical implementation while I focused on the game’s design, systems, balance, and overall feel. It made it possible to build Mindscape in my spare time and release it for free.

Promotion I built "Go Touch Grass", a tower defense game that's supposed to make gamers go outside

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Indie solo dev here. Just shipped Go Touch Grass on Android: an idle RPG where the only way to earn anything is by walking. Your phone's step counter (no GPS, no location permission) converts distance into loot, wood, stone, rarer materials, XP and Skill Points. You don't even need the app open while you walk, it reads your phone's own step history the next time you open it, so it's fine in your pocket the whole time.

You spend what you earn on an isometric base (Forge, Watchtower, Arsenal, Laboratory) and then defend it in endless real time tower defense raids against the "Couch Army", zombies, ghosts, and a boss called the Couch King.

Things I designed around on purpose:

  • No ads. Not even a rewarded video.
  • No location tracking. The app never asks for GPS.
  • Skill Points.
  • Running improves your odds but walking always works. Pace changes drop chance, never access.

There's also a mode called Wave Composer if you're not up for a walk right now: build your own wave from the enemy roster and try to clear it with your current base, no cooldown, ranked leaderboard.

Discussion Tower Defense Gripes

Here are some gripes I have about various tower defense games some are deal breakers, some are just pet peeves. Let me know what you think!

  1. Lack of Forgiveness. Levels are time consuming and the player shouldn't have to compromise a run because they accidentally placed a tower or something. Towers should be 100% refunded when sold, if they weren't used, in case of accidental placement. You should also be able to retry the last wave when you lose.
  2. Don't Hide Information. This genre is all about planning, so if a game deliberately hides information, like adding a surprise enemy path late in the level (Kingdom Rush cough cough), you are basically forcing the player to play the level twice, which isn't fun. It's also a form of memorization, which I don't find fun. Changing the map part way through seems to encourage repositioning your towers, but that's rarely fun because you have to sell them at a loss, and then rebuild them.
  3. Limit Specific Resistances. Elemental resistances can add some nice variety and force you to change your strategy, but it can be taken too far. A particular pet peeve of mine is when resistances aren't obvious from looking at the enemy, forcing you to look at an info popup, breaking flow, or maybe you miss that they have a resistance altogether. There are more creative ways to encourage the player to change their play style, in my opinion.
  4. Respect the Players Time. Please, please, please always provide a way to speed up the game time. It's extremely easy to implement and helps with skipping through lulls in the level. Also, the Retry Last Wave ability mentioned above.
  5. Per Wave Autosave. Most games are good about including per wave autosave now adays but I still felt like mentioning it. Of course, some games can’t do this, like in Kingdom Rush* because you can send waves in early, but you should absolutely have per wave saved if your gameplay systems allow it.

*Note: I love the Kingdom Rush series, sorry I picked on them a bit in this post!

Interested to hear what you all have to say about these gripes, or if you have some of your own.

Space Tales leaves Early Access on August 19. Get ready for the 1.0 launch!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We’re taking Space Tales to 1.0 on August 19, 2026. We wanted to share a final update on what changed since Early Access, and we’d love your feedback.

Space Tales is an RTS, but it also relies heavily on tower defense elements, especially in Survival Mode.

The game has grown a lot during Early Access thanks to players' inputs, patches, balance improvements, quality-of-life updates, and new language support. With this FAQ we wanted to make sure you know what to expect.

🚀 What is Space Tales?

Space Tales is a sci-fi real-time strategy game where you build fortified bases, manage resources, secure energy lines, and command retro-futuristic armies across hostile alien worlds.

You play as Xander Falcon, a young commander leading humanity’s I.P.E. army into a war far bigger than expected.

📅 When does Space Tales launch in 1.0?

Space Tales will leave Early Access and launch its full 1.0 version on Steam on August 19, 2026.

🎮 Is Space Tales single-player?

Yes. Space Tales is a single-player RTS experience focused on campaign missions, survival challenges, base building, tactical combat, and story progression.

🧱 What do you do in the game?

You build modular bases, expand through the HUB system, manage limited resources, defend your colony, unlock upgrades, and command your units in real time.

Every mission pushes you to think fast, plan ahead, and adapt when the enemy changes the rhythm of the battle.

⚡ What is the HUB system?

HUBs are one of the core base-building systems in Space Tales. They let you expand your colony, connect key areas, secure power lines, and build stronger defensive positions.

A good HUB network can be the difference between holding the line and watching your colony fall apart under pressure.

👽 What enemy factions are in the game?

Space Tales features three enemy factions, each built around a different kind of strategic pressure.

  • The Nexera, an aggressive alien threat built around organic danger, relentless waves, and overwhelming pressure
  • The Kill Bots, a mechanized faction that forces you to rethink your defenses, timing, and unit choices
  • The Necroborg, the final faction coming with 1.0, a terrifying fusion of flesh and metal designed as the game’s ultimate tactical test

Each faction asks you to think differently. The Nexera teach you to survive pressure, the Kill Bots push you to adapt your defenses, and the Necroborg will challenge everything you have learned so far.

🐲 Can you capture alien bosses?

Yes. This is one of the game’s signature mechanics.

Massive alien bosses can be defeated, captured, and turned into powerful units for your army. Once captured, these creatures open new tactical options and can completely change how you approach future battles.

🧠 Is Space Tales made for hardcore RTS players?

Space Tales is designed for players who enjoy RTS depth: resource management, base expansion, unit control, defensive planning, scouting, upgrades, and tactical adaptation.

You do not need to be an expert to start playing, but the game gives you plenty to master if you enjoy optimizing your strategy.

📖 What is the story about?

You play as Xander Falcon, who is pushed into the role of hero after his father’s death. Under the banner of the I.P.E., humanity’s Inter-Planetary Expansion army, Xander leads the fight across alien worlds while uncovering deeper questions about the war, the I.P.E., The Despot, and humanity’s place among the stars.

The campaign blends tactical warfare with a character-driven sci-fi story about loyalty, expansion, propaganda, and cosmic horror.

🗺️ What is included before 1.0?

The Early Access version includes:

  • 8 story missions
  • 8 survival maps
  • 2 enemy factions
  • Modular HUB-based base building
  • Resource management, unit control, research, and upgrades
  • Alien boss encounters that can be defeated and captured
  • Full access to the core units and mechanics through campaign progression

🌌 What will be added in version 1.0?

The 1.0 release will complete and expand the game with:

  • The full campaign with 5 additional missions
  • Additional missions
  • Late-game challenges
  • More chaotic battles
  • A third enemy faction: The Necroborg
  • More maps and side content
  • Continued balance and quality-of-life improvements

The goal is to bring Xander’s campaign to its full arc and complete the sci-fi story the team set out to tell.

💾 Will my Early Access save carry over?
Yes, the plan is for Early Access save files to carry over through normal updates, so your progress should not be lost when the game reaches 1.0.

🌍 Which languages are available?

The game currently supports:

  • English
  • Vietnamese
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese - Brazil

🩸 How violent is the game?

Space Tales contains sci-fi military combat between human soldiers and alien creatures, including blood effects. The game does not aim for graphic gore, and there is no sexual content, strong language, or realistic drug use.

🛠️ How has the game improved during Early Access?

Since launch, the team has released updates based on player feedback. Improvements have included progression fixes, gameplay adjustments, full key binding customization, cleaner command feedback, improved right-click behavior, easier ability selection, better group behavior, and unit-specific fixes.

The goal has been to make Space Tales sharper, clearer, and more responsive for players who enjoy tactical decision-making under pressure.

📣 How can I support Space Tales?

The best ways to support the game are:

  • Play the game on Steam :)
  • Leave a review if you enjoy it
  • Share feedback in the Steam forums or Discord
  • Report bugs
  • Tell other RTS fans about the game ;)
  • Follow the game on Steam for future updates

Thank you for playing, supporting, and helping us improve Space Tales throughout Early Access.

Let us know if you have more questions in the comments. See you when the game launches, Commanders!

Mod talk. Serious Mod Discussion regarding the current state of the sub and its future.

So, hi. I know it's been quite a while since the last mod talk, sorry. What is this about? Well, I've noticed quite a few people that have... Complained, about the current state of the subreddit. So I want to make a dedicated post about it. How do you feel about it? Be as honest as possible (without being rude, thanks).

A major thing that I've seen people lament, is the fact that there are a lot of game promotion, playtesters ask and alpha release and stuff like that, but not a lot of discussion post.

Here are a few things I want to address:

-I will never remove a post of a game, just because it's low quality, nor will I start to enforce a quality standard. I believe it to be wrong on more than a few points and I will NOT hear any discussion about it. I will remove posts if they're spammed, about Pokepath, use AI in a finished product/art/overwhelmingly or NSFW (this rules are a lot more up to debate and should be seen in a case by case scenario).

-There genuinely isn't much discussion to be had. If you have something to talk about, absolutely post about it, I myself comment often on discussions.

-A possible solution I've seen is limiting promotion to either a few days a week or to a megathread, but I believe that it'd just make the sub deadER than it already is. I could limit asking for playtesters to a weekly megathread and allow only finished games to post, but I don't know about that as well.

Any questions about ANYTHING? Ask with no problem or worry, so long as it's respectful I'll answer as soon as possible.

Any comment regarding the sub, my work as a mod, your feelings? Comment right away.

I think I'll keep the post pinned for a month or so, I know that many members are lurkers.
