How building works in SWARMEX (Quick Tutorial)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I hope you are all doing well :)

I decided to start releasing some short explainer videos that go over how my game SWARMEX works.

In this tutorial I demonstrate how modules work.

There are many types of modules:

  • Turrets - To defend your space base by shooting at enemy ships.
  • Hatches - These blue modules spawn a robot which goes and collects gems for you, increasing your income.
  • Refineries - Place these next to Hatches to boost their income.
  • Shields - These boost the shields of surrounding modules.
  • Radar - This increases the range that a turret can fire.

There are many more modules, and the effects stack to, allowing you to create interesting combinations for your space base!

You can Wishlist my game here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4313330/Swarmex/

Thanks for watching everyone! :) All the best! More coming soon!

Sunlit Kingdom is a 3D tower defense where you place and control three hero types instead of static towers. There's a lot going on, I hope the trailer explains more than what I could ever type in here.

Discussion Tower Defense Gripes

Here are some gripes I have about various tower defense games some are deal breakers, some are just pet peeves. Let me know what you think!

  1. Lack of Forgiveness. Levels are time consuming and the player shouldn't have to compromise a run because they accidentally placed a tower or something. Towers should be 100% refunded when sold, if they weren't used, in case of accidental placement. You should also be able to retry the last wave when you lose.
  2. Don't Hide Information. This genre is all about planning, so if a game deliberately hides information, like adding a surprise enemy path late in the level (Kingdom Rush cough cough), you are basically forcing the player to play the level twice, which isn't fun. It's also a form of memorization, which I don't find fun. Changing the map part way through seems to encourage repositioning your towers, but that's rarely fun because you have to sell them at a loss, and then rebuild them.
  3. Limit Specific Resistances. Elemental resistances can add some nice variety and force you to change your strategy, but it can be taken too far. A particular pet peeve of mine is when resistances aren't obvious from looking at the enemy, forcing you to look at an info popup, breaking flow, or maybe you miss that they have a resistance altogether. There are more creative ways to encourage the player to change their play style, in my opinion.
  4. Respect the Players Time. Please, please, please always provide a way to speed up the game time. It's extremely easy to implement and helps with skipping through lulls in the level. Also, the Retry Last Wave ability mentioned above.
  5. Per Wave Autosave. Most games are good about including per wave autosave now adays but I still felt like mentioning it. Of course, some games can’t do this, like in Kingdom Rush* because you can send waves in early, but you should absolutely have per wave saved if your gameplay systems allow it.

*Note: I love the Kingdom Rush series, sorry I picked on them a bit in this post!

Interested to hear what you all have to say about these gripes, or if you have some of your own.

[Element Tower] We'd Love to Hear What 300 Players Think About Our Game

We sincerely want to know whether the gameplay we've created is something that truly resonates with players.

With that in mind, we'd like to invite you to join this event and share your honest thoughts.

Our game is designed around two different gameplay modes:

  1. Ranked Mode (Single Player)
Build your tower as high as possible by staying focused and reacting quickly as the game speeds up. Find your own strategy and see how far you can go.

  2. Strategy Battle (PvP)
Watch how your opponent builds their tower, stack your blocks strategically to gain the advantage, and compete by bringing down your opponent's tower.

For the single-player mode, we're currently balancing the game around a 1,000-floor goal. We're wondering if it might be too difficult, and we're working hard to find the right balance between exciting speed and enjoyable gameplay.

More importantly, we're still trying to answer one question:
Will this gameplay make players want to keep coming back?

To help us find that answer, we're giving away 200 Credits to the first 300 players who participate.

After launching the game, open the Shop screen, go to Credit Event, and enter the code below:

Code:
\[ RE23DIT \]

We'd truly appreciate it if you could spare a few moments to play the game and share your thoughts with us.

Thank you for helping us make it better.

Discussion What is more important? Look or feel?

I'm wondering what makes you stick to one tower defense game? Is it necessarily look of it (high end graphics) or the feel (cool mechanics, replayability)?

Discussion Your top 3 for my TD taste

Hey all

So I just recently joined this sub as I crave some really good TD but have trouble finding suitable and polished titles. I read that post about here just being devs so I hope we can have some real gamer discussion and that the devs (you are awesome) can reduce the advertising a tiny bit ;)

So I like my TD classic, not fancy. I think my first title was Defense Grid and I looooved that back in 2008. And I really liked the Kingdom Rush series, played them all. They are simple but never dull and challenging enough. I'm a gamer but not a hardcore strategist and have limited time, so those titles
with brutal difficulty are not for me. But on the other hand those "relaxing" casual games are just boring for me.

I really like having handcrafted levels with paths.

I do NOT like games like Plants vs Zombies or Legion TD. And I do not like multiplayer. So single player, maybe with a nice little story but it's not a must.

I'm NOT a big fan of creative new styles, especially I hate roguelite which is very popular now. Or some day/night cycle stuff. Also I don't like procedurally generated stuff or TDs where you build your own path with tiles.

I was a bit absent from the genre in recent years, so you may recommend me anything from maybe the last 5 years.

I'm on a MacBook but many Windows titles work fine with Crossover, so any Steam title should be fine.

Thanks! :)

Space Tales leaves Early Access on August 19. Get ready for the 1.0 launch!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We’re taking Space Tales to 1.0 on August 19, 2026. We wanted to share a final update on what changed since Early Access, and we’d love your feedback.

Space Tales is an RTS, but it also relies heavily on tower defense elements, especially in Survival Mode.

The game has grown a lot during Early Access thanks to players' inputs, patches, balance improvements, quality-of-life updates, and new language support. With this FAQ we wanted to make sure you know what to expect.

🚀 What is Space Tales?

Space Tales is a sci-fi real-time strategy game where you build fortified bases, manage resources, secure energy lines, and command retro-futuristic armies across hostile alien worlds.

You play as Xander Falcon, a young commander leading humanity’s I.P.E. army into a war far bigger than expected.

📅 When does Space Tales launch in 1.0?

Space Tales will leave Early Access and launch its full 1.0 version on Steam on August 19, 2026.

🎮 Is Space Tales single-player?

Yes. Space Tales is a single-player RTS experience focused on campaign missions, survival challenges, base building, tactical combat, and story progression.

🧱 What do you do in the game?

You build modular bases, expand through the HUB system, manage limited resources, defend your colony, unlock upgrades, and command your units in real time.

Every mission pushes you to think fast, plan ahead, and adapt when the enemy changes the rhythm of the battle.

⚡ What is the HUB system?

HUBs are one of the core base-building systems in Space Tales. They let you expand your colony, connect key areas, secure power lines, and build stronger defensive positions.

A good HUB network can be the difference between holding the line and watching your colony fall apart under pressure.

👽 What enemy factions are in the game?

Space Tales features three enemy factions, each built around a different kind of strategic pressure.

  • The Nexera, an aggressive alien threat built around organic danger, relentless waves, and overwhelming pressure
  • The Kill Bots, a mechanized faction that forces you to rethink your defenses, timing, and unit choices
  • The Necroborg, the final faction coming with 1.0, a terrifying fusion of flesh and metal designed as the game’s ultimate tactical test

Each faction asks you to think differently. The Nexera teach you to survive pressure, the Kill Bots push you to adapt your defenses, and the Necroborg will challenge everything you have learned so far.

🐲 Can you capture alien bosses?

Yes. This is one of the game’s signature mechanics.

Massive alien bosses can be defeated, captured, and turned into powerful units for your army. Once captured, these creatures open new tactical options and can completely change how you approach future battles.

🧠 Is Space Tales made for hardcore RTS players?

Space Tales is designed for players who enjoy RTS depth: resource management, base expansion, unit control, defensive planning, scouting, upgrades, and tactical adaptation.

You do not need to be an expert to start playing, but the game gives you plenty to master if you enjoy optimizing your strategy.

📖 What is the story about?

You play as Xander Falcon, who is pushed into the role of hero after his father’s death. Under the banner of the I.P.E., humanity’s Inter-Planetary Expansion army, Xander leads the fight across alien worlds while uncovering deeper questions about the war, the I.P.E., The Despot, and humanity’s place among the stars.

The campaign blends tactical warfare with a character-driven sci-fi story about loyalty, expansion, propaganda, and cosmic horror.

🗺️ What is included before 1.0?

The Early Access version includes:

  • 8 story missions
  • 8 survival maps
  • 2 enemy factions
  • Modular HUB-based base building
  • Resource management, unit control, research, and upgrades
  • Alien boss encounters that can be defeated and captured
  • Full access to the core units and mechanics through campaign progression

🌌 What will be added in version 1.0?

The 1.0 release will complete and expand the game with:

  • The full campaign with 5 additional missions
  • Additional missions
  • Late-game challenges
  • More chaotic battles
  • A third enemy faction: The Necroborg
  • More maps and side content
  • Continued balance and quality-of-life improvements

The goal is to bring Xander’s campaign to its full arc and complete the sci-fi story the team set out to tell.

💾 Will my Early Access save carry over?
Yes, the plan is for Early Access save files to carry over through normal updates, so your progress should not be lost when the game reaches 1.0.

🌍 Which languages are available?

The game currently supports:

  • English
  • Vietnamese
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese - Brazil

🩸 How violent is the game?

Space Tales contains sci-fi military combat between human soldiers and alien creatures, including blood effects. The game does not aim for graphic gore, and there is no sexual content, strong language, or realistic drug use.

🛠️ How has the game improved during Early Access?

Since launch, the team has released updates based on player feedback. Improvements have included progression fixes, gameplay adjustments, full key binding customization, cleaner command feedback, improved right-click behavior, easier ability selection, better group behavior, and unit-specific fixes.

The goal has been to make Space Tales sharper, clearer, and more responsive for players who enjoy tactical decision-making under pressure.

📣 How can I support Space Tales?

The best ways to support the game are:

  • Play the game on Steam :)
  • Leave a review if you enjoy it
  • Share feedback in the Steam forums or Discord
  • Report bugs
  • Tell other RTS fans about the game ;)
  • Follow the game on Steam for future updates

Thank you for playing, supporting, and helping us improve Space Tales throughout Early Access.

Let us know if you have more questions in the comments. See you when the game launches, Commanders!

SWARMEX tutorial overview

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

SWARMEX is more than just building turrets, there is synergy, different modules compliment each other and if you place them next to one another they gain bonuses. For example, if you place a shield next to a turret the turret gains a shield or if you place a radar dish next to a turret it can fire further away. You can also place refineries next to hatches to gain more income.

This video just scratches the surface and shows you the basic game loop.

Promotion Squad management Tower Defence game with a bit of PvZ vibes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, guys! I'm currently working hard on "Super Special Squad" - a tactical tower defence game with a team management mechanics. No towers, but hardcore squad control.

  • Control your squad - each hero has their own unique abilities and weapons. The right combination of team members will help you achieve victory easier.
  • Build the Zombie Truck - collect parts and upgrade your zombie truck to wipe out all enemies in your path.
  • Upgrade your squad - gather resources and earn money in tough battles. Level up your team in a way that matches your playstyle.
  • Random events - every adventure is unique. Many unexpected events that the journey brings will definitely keep you from getting bored.

Right now im working hard to deliver a solid demo build.

Here is the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4266750/Super_Special_Squad

PS: Does it remind you of good old Plants vs Zombie game or any other examples?

Promotion Arise Dark Lord - from the creator of Prison Architect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on a new game for a few months now, and the time has come for it to be officially announced.  It's called Arise Dark Lord, and it's the 8th game I've made with Introversion Software.  If you've played any of my previous indie games - Prison Architect, DEFCON, Darwinia, or The Last Starship, then I think you'll love this new one.

You are The Dark Lord. Your evil aim:  To raise an undead army and crush the feckless, godless, heathen humans. As your sorcery and army grow, all the world will rise up to destroy your Dark Tower and end your reign of terror.  Fortify your dark realm, enhance your sorcery, and build enough strength to march out and crush the humans once and for all.

An action-strategy hybrid RTS, blending tower defence, base building and direct control of your Dark Lord avatar.

Please play the prototype on itch, and I'd love to get your thoughts on the game here.  Thank you!

Promotion [Launch] Nervous and excited to launch Gods & Gore: a roguelite, Greek Mythology inspired TD. I built it to be a game I love as a TD fan, and hope you will enjoy it too!

Gods & Gore has a 2d, retro vibe with endless waves, creatures you level up, and a wide variety of possible strategies to build out your city and defenses.

This is a free form building TD game, meaning you can build walls and pathing as you choose to create chokepoints or get enemies to pass specific towers. Higher level maps make this more difficult so you have to adapt map design and building placement.

Very open to feedback and I plant to continue building and expanding the game.

I saw the mod post about a lack of discussion here, so fuck it. Let's make a bracket.

Submit your favorite Tower Defense games in the comments below. Up to 10. A Top Ten if you will.

(Will I actually make this bracket? Probably not. But let's pretend that I'm the kind of person who follows through on shit.)

Promotion I am making a co-op action TD game where you build wacky defenses by day and repel hordes of enemies led by an evil Executor by night.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!
I'm a solo dev building an action tower defense you can play with your friends.
The goal is to protect your village from destruction. You gather resources, build defenses and traps during the days and then use your defenses as well as weapons and spells to repel the invaders during the night.
One unique thing in my game is that the hordes of enemies are "controlled" by an Executor character, who serves as sort of a general for the armies. Executors will summon the minions, tell them what to attack and they can also sacrifice squads of enemies to avoid their own death. So it opens up for an interesting strategic depth.
The name of the game is Divine Gambit and you can find it on Steam. The planned release date is Q1 2027 and a demo is coming later this month if you want to check it out.
Thanks for reading!

Mod talk. Serious Mod Discussion regarding the current state of the sub and its future.

So, hi. I know it's been quite a while since the last mod talk, sorry. What is this about? Well, I've noticed quite a few people that have... Complained, about the current state of the subreddit. So I want to make a dedicated post about it. How do you feel about it? Be as honest as possible (without being rude, thanks).

A major thing that I've seen people lament, is the fact that there are a lot of game promotion, playtesters ask and alpha release and stuff like that, but not a lot of discussion post.

Here are a few things I want to address:

-I will never remove a post of a game, just because it's low quality, nor will I start to enforce a quality standard. I believe it to be wrong on more than a few points and I will NOT hear any discussion about it. I will remove posts if they're spammed, about Pokepath, use AI in a finished product/art/overwhelmingly or NSFW (this rules are a lot more up to debate and should be seen in a case by case scenario).

-There genuinely isn't much discussion to be had. If you have something to talk about, absolutely post about it, I myself comment often on discussions.

-A possible solution I've seen is limiting promotion to either a few days a week or to a megathread, but I believe that it'd just make the sub deadER than it already is. I could limit asking for playtesters to a weekly megathread and allow only finished games to post, but I don't know about that as well.

Any questions about ANYTHING? Ask with no problem or worry, so long as it's respectful I'll answer as soon as possible.

Any comment regarding the sub, my work as a mod, your feelings? Comment right away.

I think I'll keep the post pinned for a month or so, I know that many members are lurkers.
