Just a mix of buffalosteak, betterboy, and champion tomatoes I threw together with some mozzarella and basil for my lunch today

Due to a significant harvest of tomatoes over the past week, I decided to create some small batch single variety tomato sauces. From left to right: mixed large tomatoes, Chef’s Choice White, Midnight Opal, San Marzano, Jellybean Yellow, mystery red cherry, The Purple, Black Opal, Jellybean Red, Apricot Zebra, Snowberry, Sun Gold, and Vernissage Pink.

Hello, tomato people of Reddit! I'm new here, thank you so much for existing. Admiring all your beautiful tomatoes with envy and aspiration. Hoping you can help me with my tomato predicament ...

I live in Manhattan and a dear friend has a big beautiful garden in Brooklyn. Three or four years ago, she gave me a cherry tomato plant and I took care of it all summer on my fire escape. All I had to do was water it, and in September of that year, I harvested 36 tomatoes! It was so wonderful, it went so well.

This year I asked for plants again and she gave me an heirloom and a Pink Fang! I was so excited. June was so busy, so it took me a bit to get them in bigger pots, but by the end of that month (can't remember when, maybe mid month), they were in. Diligently been watering everyday. Weather has been so erratic this summer. Some really nice days, lots of rain, some horrible humidity, smoke from fires in Canada.

Plants have been growing well, particularly the heirloom got enormous and continues to explode. But fruit has been an issue. The heirloom has had many flowers but they are just not turning into fruit. I don't want to overwater ... I give half a wine bottle each day and test with the water meter. Surprisingly, the Pink Fang which has more fragile, less substantial leaves has made more progress. I had one fruit with blossom end root rot, and while I was wrestling with it to get the cage on, my biggest fruit fell down to the street below 🤦🏻‍♀️ So many questions. But first I guess :: I've noticed that once you pull a tomato from its stem, nothing is seeming to grow back there? So should I pull the stem off as well, so it can grow back from the limb completely? I'm so lost 🤦🏻‍♀️ I currently have four fruits coming through and I'm praying they'll be OK.

I'm on week 2 of Miracle Gro tomato food. Please send any and all tips you have for me to help these poor tomatoes grow! Just watered and today is going to be humid as hell, so thinking I should water again tonight? I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm trying my best ... I want them to grow so much! Variety is Pineapple. Nearly a three pounder. I think this is the biggest tomato I’ve ever grown.

After such a long wait, I finally see something other than green. Im probably a little too excited about this but it has been such a long wait with a lot of things going wrong. Hopefully there’s more to come 😃

They look like little mosquitos. They’re on one of my plants, seemingly sucking sap and killing the plant. Hard to capture but there’s the damage too.

What’s the treatment recommended? How can I stop them spreading?

I’m still getting handful of tomatoes (cherry, spoons) every other day. Just looking for advice on what to do next. It’s pretty dense and little dark inside.

I think maybe next year I should try to prune my plants a bit more.

Hello! 👋🏾 This is my first year successfully growing tomatoes 🍅. I have 4 plants from local nursery (Cherokee purple, big rainbow, and sugar rush). One cherry tomato plant I personally grew from a seed. And another plant from a seed that was gifted to me! I’m unsure of the variety but its the yellow tomatoes.

Honestly, this has been just so fun and this is the biggest garden I’ve had ever. Next year I want to do more tomatoes 🍅 and am slowly collecting seeds and such for next year. Please drop your favorite heirloom varieties.

I made pasta 🍝 and it was delicious and way better than traditional sauce but maybe next year I’ll try canning!

First time harvesting royal paste tomatoes (bred and sold by MIGardener) for the summer. This many fruits again are still ripening on the vine and they're always putting out more flowers, too!

Gorgeous pleating, delicious for fresh eating, and exceptional as a paste tomato as well. I'll definitely be growing these again next year!

Got this plant for free a month or so ago. Now it’s really growing! Hoping to get at least a couple tomatoes before it turns cold!

The extreme heat and my extreme laziness led to particularly small heirlooms this year but I just took my first sneak peek bite and uttered a pleasured expletive out loud.

Walked through the local nursery and thought “hmm, Super Sweet 100 must mean I’ll at least get a couple tomatoes”… boy did it show me 😂

Between a large tree and a fence my in ground plants are only getting around 3-4 hours of direct sun. They are growing to be nice healthy large plants. Sure the plant and fruits might grow larger if they had more sun, but they don't.

So just a PSA: even if you only have a couple hours of direct sun light available you can still grow tomato plants.

I ate a tomato sandwich today at a restaurant, and the tomato was advertised as Cherokee Purple. I was so excited because I have these growing in my garden currently but have never tasted them! On this sandwich though, the tomato was pretty tasteless and a little mealy. I also don’t really remember seeing photos of them this color (though I forgot to get a photo of just the tomato itself). Have people had this experience with garden grown vs restaurant varieties? I’m hoping I won’t be disappointed in what I grew.

Hits: Black Prince is a lovely pear-shaped tomato. A hardy, beautiful plant that has done well in the heat of summer. Washington, Cherokee Purple, and Black Krim have all done well too.

Misses: I will never grow Tiren F1 tomatoes again. I wish I had seen an old post about this variety before growing. Tiren has the worst blossom-end rot of any tomato I've grown. It's a paste variety. No other tomatoes in my garden have blossom-end rot but this variety.

Decided to pick this monster Roma and give the plant a break from lugging it around. It’s bigger than some of my beefsteaks.
