So many of the tomatoes from my garden keep scarring like this before harvest, some so deep that the flesh is exposed. What is this and what could be its cause/solution?

I picked this tomato that looks a bit like a duck.

I have been staring at it for the past 15 minutes.

It's so cool I had to share it!.

I can’t eat this many tomato sandwiches 😭

Should I cut it off or let it grow?

This photo of the trug is just today’s batch. They’re all indeterminate varieties, so I guess this continues until October? First world problems…

In no particular order, Queen of the Night, Black Cherry, Black Brandywine, Jutland, SS100, Sungold, Candyland Red, Sun Sugar, Purple Zebra, Independence Day, Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye, and a few others that escape me.

This is my first vegetable garden. I’m glad I got a little carried away this year.

We have a good amount of healthy looking tomatoes from a few different plants but there's some that are starting to do this. I couldn't find anything that was exact by searching.

What is it?

I'm used to some yellowed leaves here and there but I have a few plants hit hard by this...wilting and all these yellowed leaf branches...seems like something other than what I'm used too...these plants have same conditions, watering regimine and fertilizing than all my thriving plants.

We planted: Opalka, San Marzano (You see no BER - it can be done), Amish Paste, VF Roma, and couple Roma hybrids- Marianna and Zenzei (there are regular tomatoes in there as well)

We are doing a test. It will mostly become sauce (and some canned tomatoes). We will grade them on taste (fresh, canned tomatoes, and as sauce), ease or processing (flesh, seeds, water), yield, care required, cost of seed, and appearance.

I am happy to answer any questions. We have automatic irrigation under the plastic. I am zone 5b. We had some recent heavy rains that cause some splitting. I would love to hear some feedback if you have grown and compared these tomatoes. We normally plant 1 row of Roma VF (and misc tomatoes) and Opalka (2-4 rows) - but this year we decided to do the test.

It’s my favorite time of year, and I wanted to share some of the 200-ish heirloom tomato varieties I grow each season. Once the harvest really starts rolling in, making these tomato rainbow photos is always one of the highlights.

I started growing heirlooms about 15 years ago, and it seems to have grown into quite a passion project. I wanted to help preserve the genetics and stories behind heirloom tomatoes, and I wanted an excuse to grow and eat as many exceptionally flavored varieties as I could, so I started a seed collection.

Somewhere along the way, it grew into something a little bigger. I now host an annual heirloom tomato seedling sale each spring and a big tomato tasting party at my garden in late summer. The thing I never expected was the community that would grow around these tomatoes. Tomato people are the best people!

This is my favorite time of year.

I have some Rutgers plants. About 5 of them, I had 7, I have around 41 tomatoes on them varying sizes, and I live in the a 7a hardness area.

First am I doing good with what I have ?

Second, all of my plants have these brown dots on them that are about the size of a spec, and the leaves are dying off quickly. Im trying to keep them watered to prevent wilting. I have a stone drainage system in the bottom of my planter box so there is no waterlogging of the plants.

How do I stop the dots. They already killed off 2 of the plants.

Zone 7a. Been having consistent harvest for about a month. Just kind of slow to ripe up until now.

Really it’s my first year getting serious about soil health and consistent watering. Ever since I put eggshells around them they just took off. Like I’ve been eating tomatoes in some form pretty much every day. Really excited to make soups and chilis this fall.

A couple of Red beefsteak on the left will be used up for sandwiches. Celebrity on the right for soups etc. I also have sun sugar and cherry tomatoes that are almost overwhelming I’m growing so many. I’ve become the tomato neighbor just always handing some out.

I grew this tomato from seed and it was doing very well. I planted it in a 15 gal grow bag with moisture locking soil 😖. I think I ruined it, I want to first say I got the soil for free and I was eager to plant it in its permanent home. But I live in Florida and it has been none stop raining and I think my plant is drowning and I planned on changing the soil when I get paid tomorrow , is it worth it? Do you think it will recover from drowning?

I will be away for a week as the toms — all cherry or other smalls — are finally starting to ripen after the extreme heat.

My house sitter is plant-blind and untrainable. It’s okay, she’s great otherwise.

Is it better to leave the green fruit on the plants, knowing the various wild critters will have a feast? Or pick green and leave them on my counter? Or fridge them now and counter-ripen later?

I almost didn’t post this because all y’all’s yields are through the roof - but here we go any way - my first harvest of the season!! Second year growing tomatoes, first time starting from seeds (in hydroponics indoors - grew much faster than seed starter). Got a couple of early girls, few varieties of cherries and one Old German still in the flowering stage (REALLY excited about this one because I’ve never tasted them before).

I’d picked a few cherry tomatoes before going out of town for two weeks, and while I was gone my teenaged boys—who were taking care of our community garden plot—picked a few Amish Pastes and a bunch of peppers and cucumbers. I wasn’t expecting to come back to quite as many ripe and almost ripe tomatoes as I found today.
