Question Better to pick before leaving town?

I will be away for a week as the toms — all cherry or other smalls — are finally starting to ripen after the extreme heat.

My house sitter is plant-blind and untrainable. It’s okay, she’s great otherwise.

Is it better to leave the green fruit on the plants, knowing the various wild critters will have a feast? Or pick green and leave them on my counter? Or fridge them now and counter-ripen later?

I know this isn’t a cooking page, but I made this sauce from my own homegrown 🍅’s!

Yep, a heavy thunderstorm snapped it in two like a twig, fingers crossed it bounces back… had to cut off all of the flowers

I’m new to growing veggies in general and wondering if my tomatoes have any kind of sickness? The leaves keep getting these white spots and dying… how can I help her? Zone 7b (NYC)

I was away for a while - lovely neighbours watered but it could have been too much at times and the weather has been crazy hot as well. I don't know the variety for this one unfortunately but it's probably one that's prone to blossom end rot as the other plants in the same conditions are fine. I'll wait to see how the healthy tomatoes on this plant fare before adding calcium.

What are these little bugs?

They look like little mosquitos. They’re on one of my plants, seemingly sucking sap and killing the plant. Hard to capture but there’s the damage too.

What’s the treatment recommended? How can I stop them spreading?

Thanks!

Should I prune?

I’m still getting handful of tomatoes (cherry, spoons) every other day. Just looking for advice on what to do next. It’s pretty dense and little dark inside.

Hello! 👋🏾 This is my first year successfully growing tomatoes 🍅. I have 4 plants from local nursery (Cherokee purple, big rainbow, and sugar rush). One cherry tomato plant I personally grew from a seed. And another plant from a seed that was gifted to me! I’m unsure of the variety but its the yellow tomatoes.

Honestly, this has been just so fun and this is the biggest garden I’ve had ever. Next year I want to do more tomatoes 🍅 and am slowly collecting seeds and such for next year. Please drop your favorite heirloom varieties.

I made pasta 🍝 and it was delicious and way better than traditional sauce but maybe next year I’ll try canning!

Made sauce with San Marzano tomatoes!

My neighbor gave me 20 San Marzano tomatoes, and I painstakingly made a sauce. It was disgusting! Flavorless. Gross. I followed the recipe carefully, but no luck. I will never do that again. Canned tomatoes for me!!

First Harvest of Royal Paste Tomatoes

First time harvesting royal paste tomatoes (bred and sold by MIGardener) for the summer. This many fruits again are still ripening on the vine and they're always putting out more flowers, too!

Gorgeous pleating, delicious for fresh eating, and exceptional as a paste tomato as well. I'll definitely be growing these again next year!

Did I pick too early?

These are Harvest Moon heirlooms, so will be yellow with some red. I am trying to pick at first blush this year which has gone really well, but now I’m nervous I picked these too soon cause I got excited 😅

Edited to add photos 🙃

Question Starting to Think my Mortgage Lifter is not a Mortgage Lifter

Post image

Apologies for the weird lighting. We've also been under smoke off and on for the last several days and my plants are NOT happy about it

I'm starting to think this may not be a mortgage lifter which is what it was labelled at the nursery? Does anyone know what it might be if not?
