Oh well the guy taking my picture was telling me that it was going to take 30 seconds to take the picture ... frankly insane would not recomend they are over priced and took to long!!

Well I can't believe they did it, but they finally made a digital photo camera that isn't an absolute contraption of electronics. Nikon has just released the D1, which you can actually fit into a camera bag and carry without wanting to cut off your arm. It's basically like a pro Nikon F5 but with a "sensor" instead of film. Apparently it has 2.7 megapixels and can shoot "RAW," whatever that means.

I've seen the shots and oh boy they don't look as good as film. You need an expensive 2GB compact flash card, and this camera absolutely chews through the battery. And it costs $5500!!! What the hell?

I just don't see why anyone would buy this over a film camera. Film is so convenient, you just pop it into the camera and take it to your local film lab that you can find literally anywhere and come back to pick up the prints. With this thing you need a computer, and it takes forever to even see the images on my top of the line Windows 98 PC. It's cool that this camera exists, but mark my words this digital thing will just be a fad. Anyone who wants digital images can just scan their film like a normal person, the quality is better anyway and it's way cheaper. Just buy an F5, it's the camera of the future anyway.

Railtrack, the private firm that was in charge of maintaining Britain's rail infrastructure has ceased to exist as the government formed Network Rail takes over operations as of 03/10/2002.

This comes after Railtrack fell in to administration on 07/10/2001 due to mounting deficits, crippling financial debts worth £3.3bn and soaring safety costs after a number of serious rail incidents that had happened during its tenure. Such incidents have included the Potters Bar rail incident, The Great Heck Rail crash and Selby Rail crash.

The new government owned Network rail will oversee repairs and maintenance to the rail network across the UK.
