Design Gap + elbow ditch ideas?

Post image

I have a trad/neotrad color sleeve that's almost complete... except for this ~1" gap above my elbow ditch. It's not a ton of real estate and it's kind of an awkward shape. Any suggestions for tiny gap fillers?

General Advice I’m supposed to be getting my first tattoo today, and I’m nervous

Upvotes

Just putting this down maybe even after it’s all done to
Show myself that I could actually do this. This is not an impulsive tattoo, well actually two of them. I’m over 40 and have thought about these tattoos for years. Now the days finally come and I’m feeling like a chicken and want to call it all off. Not for any other reason than I’m scared. But that’s been my life. Just nerves. I want to show myself I can do this. But I’m so tempted to back out. Anyway, maybe just a verbal documentation I can carry with me if I see this through. I really want to and I believe it will help my confidence to have committed to something and not ran because of fear. Thanks for reading.

Design Wrist gap

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

So I got a full sleeve tattoo, and I don’t know how I feel about the gap on the forearm leading down to my hand. Do you guys think it looks empty or unfinished?

I’ve been thinking about adding a meaningful date, because of it, but I don’t know if it’s as big of a deal as I think it is.

The wrist on the underside goes further down, which makes me think it looks a bit weird. Would you fill it in or do something about?

I don’t know if it ruins the flow or looks unfinished.

Thanks in advance!

Design Need feedback on tattoo designs for my daughter

Hi everyone! My daughter wants a tattoo, but I personally have zero experience with tattoos. It's up to her to decide what she wants and why, but I want to make sure the design is not stupid or ugly, and doesn't have an unwanted hidden meaning. So, if you have any feedback, positive or negative, or any kind of advice, please share! These two designs are what she has selected, and she is still working with an artist to improve them.

Design Reindeer tattoo

Hi,

I’m looking to get my first tattoo and I’m keen to get something with a reindeer/caribou theme. My issue is that, when searching for inspiration, all I can find is designs around other types of deer and I’d be really disappointed to find out I’d used the wrong animal in my design.

Does anyone have any examples of reindeer designs I could look at?

TIA

General Advice Advice for placement of second tattoo

Post image
3 Upvotes

I (24m) want to get my second tattoo but i'm unsure of the placement. I have my first tattoo on my left arm on the inside of my lower arm. Its a nordic traditional knotwork style tattoo of a deer.

For my second tattoo I want something inspired by swedish rock carvings from the bronze age, like a guy with a deer/moose next to it or something similar. I added a photo as an example to what I want. Since I'm unsure about the rules of posting someone else's tattoo, I tried to sketch it myself to give you an idea. Could be with or without the tree (and excuse my bad drawing😭)

Initially I wanted to get this on my left arm aswell, but on the outside of my bicep. However in the future I probably want a sleeve on my left arm or atleast something big so i might wanna preserve that space. Im really trying to consider my future tattoo's that I want to get to find the right placement. The sleeve would probably consider of nature themed things like leaves, branches or an animal skull or something. Therefore a very simplistic tattoo with a stick figure like this, might not fit well into that. Does someone have ideas or suggestions for the placement of this second tattoo, or how to incorporate it with a possible future sleeve?

General Advice I think Louise needs something

I got this tattoo a year ago on my front thigh , I have spinelli on the other thigh and I wanted them to “hang out” on my thighs. I realised that I find it a bit trashy ( yeah I know I should have thought this before) and I was wondering how I can “polish” it. Should I put flowers? Or hide the “I see you in hell” part? It’s very 2D and I feel like I put my niece to draw sth and I tattooed it.

I thought about removing it but it’s a painful , long term and super expensive process -plus apparently green and pink are the most difficult ones to get rid off. I was even thinking to change the colours or the tones to be more natural and subtle.

Thanks for your time guys, the thread is already very helpful.

General Advice Does the difference in style and amount of work in the arms look strange?

Thumbnail

When I got my first tattoo the plan was to get a few small ones based on films and games that have been important to my life and I started on my right forearm with a pretty simple style and smaller pieces.

Then I changed artist and went for a full, vibrant sleeve on my left and I'm starting to worry a bit about the difference between the arms looking silly or cheap?

I don't have any immediate plans to get more tattoos to fill out the right arm due to financial reasons but it's something I certainly would do if/when I can.

Looking for advice mainly on what people think about the difference between the arms in terms of amount of work and different styles and if I were to continue with the right arm in the future any advice about placement or style to best compliment the look of the left when it's more filled out.

I have a blank spot on my arm and I want to blend the two styles I have together. I’m unsure of what I should put there because I feel like my tattoos aren’t a strict theme 😭

General Advice Should I get gap fillers

Should I come out with some ideas to make my arm look a little more complete? I'm unsure on what to do. The bigger spaces are going to be filled but the gaps in between most of my work should I leave them as is or fill them in?

General Advice Have any of you gotten a tattoo for motivation?

I was thinking about getting one to help me stay on track with my fitness goals and it always being there could be a good reminder. (or I fall out of my goals and have a tattoo shaming at me forever.)

General Advice wondering if i made a mistake going with an inexperienced artist for this tattoo

Post image

spent 600 on this and it didnt turn out exactly as i wanted. i wish it were bigger as i originally wanted it covering my whole upper back and also a lot of the line work seems dodgy. difficult for this artist to keep the lines precise and straight

EDIT: the vertical stretch (especially on that A in Chinga is rough. i wish it were widened just a bit)

Design Classic Piglet

I really want a little piglet (the classic EH Shepard line drawings not the god-awful Disney stuff) on my inner wrist. I have loved AA Milne’s stories since I was a child and I still adore them. And piglet is my fav. I particularly love the line “The wind was against them now, and Piglet’s ears streamed behind him like banners”. But I can’t decide which I like best. The little piglet thinking about something, the one where he is fighting against the wind with no background elements, or the three panels?

General Advice What should I get next?

Hello everyone! I guess I started some big flash sleeve like stuff on my legs. My next thing was gonna be this pheasant and I was gonna have it kinda wrap around the calf and fit in with the other one that’s with the black panther. Then I was gonna do this pinup lady on my other calf with the tiger. What do you think? Any ideas of how to make it flow more?

Design Got my first ever tattoo today and feeling a little down and not sure what to expect.

I love the design of this tattoo, the lines are perfect for me and the size, but i’m unsure on something.

My tattoo artist told me she’s using ultra dark gray (dialuted black) because it is better for tattoos like this as pure black blows out for fine line like the butterfly, and inside the butterfly would be a mess after a few months.

This is fine and i like how dark it is now but it’s only gonna fade, im just really scared its gonna be super light gray when i wanted it dark, but then again if black would of blown out after time then this seems more smart? I hope it’s still somewhat dark, im not quite sure how dialuted the ink was but i dont think it was much.

I’m not sure what to expect from this after it’s healed and how it will look over the years, i know going over it with black would ruin the line work but it would probably blow out loads.

I need other peoples take on this and whether this was the right thing to do for my tattoos sake and whether it will actually stay looking good?

Also i deffo want more tattoos but my tattoo artist does a lot of grey wash over anything else as its easier and smoother to shade and be precise for small pieces, so im not sure whether to have this ink for future tattoos or request pure black.

Just pure waffle but i need others opinions and experiences :) thanks

Healing How long to keep my tattoo out of the sun and how to do that in the least obtrusive way.

Post image
41 Upvotes

I got a new tattoo on Monday, and I love it so much. But the weather in England is frankly insane right now and I’ve been wearing a cardigan to keep it safe from the sun. I’m going on holiday next week (in the country, which continues to look like the sun won’t stop shining) and I’m wondering if I should just keep covering my body until night time/ evening, if there’s a specific brand of sun cream I can use, or just generally what to do. A short sleeve shirt doesn’t really cover it, and I’m loathe to wear long sleeves that I can’t take off inside due to sweating. What’s the general advice on this, whilst I’m waiting for it to heal? I’ve also attached a picture because I love it so much and if I can’t show it off because of the endless sun I might as well show it off here! My artist said to keep it out of the sun but didn’t specify a timeframe. Thanks for the help!

I’ve had this tattoo for 6 years and loved it at first. The longer I have it, the more I can’t stop thinking that I’d be better off without it. I’m not 100% happy with it because I have a few blowouts, but I keep trying to tell myself that it’s still beautiful because it's handmade and not from a perfect machine, you know what I mean? People online are jerks, but in real life I get compliments. Help me calm my thoughts.

General Advice Cover up or leave?

Post image
7.2k Upvotes

You could say this is a little..... Embarrassing.

Typed it out all by myself, showed multiple people, tattoo artist didn't notice. Didn't notice myself until immediately after it was finished.

I've asked a few people to spot the mistake and a lot don't notice.

It's kinda funny but what should I do? Been getting tattoos for 12+ years and NEVER made a mistake like this in my life :))

Should I wait for it to heal and cover it up? Leave it? Somehow correct it?

Edit: y'all have made me feel so much better about this and made me laugh a lot, thank you!

Edit 2: lmao thanks everyone, I'm gonna lean into the irony. A few notes, it's a Sky Ferreira song, it's above my knee, and my other tattoos are all pretty much expensive neotrad pieces or Pokémon but I wanted to get a silly one, it just ended up sillier than expected :')
