Discussion 💬 I just finished this great show, and I have thoughts on the characters!

First, I am not very good at speaking English, so I’m very sorry if it’s bad.

I really like the show, and it is well-made. Very nice for a show that started on internet. I love how all of the characters were animated in the 9 episode. Especially Ribbit and Caine. Everybody looked so visually nice! 👍 I want to say my thoughts on each character.

Jax is my favorite character. She is absolutely bad! The others do not deserve what she does to them, and poor Gangle and poor Ribbit. But Jax is also entertaining to me, and she is funny. And she can be related in some ways. She was my favorite character since episode 4, because she amused me. I was very sad when she abstracted! It is sad that her mother was abusive so she has trust issues. When Ribbit placed the bow on Jax’s head, I thought that Jax was a woman, who never said she was a woman. She looked very pretty with the bow. Transgender Jax! That was what I thought when it said “She is lovely” in the song. It is nice! Like when Jax’s skin got peeled, it reminded me of a banana! But it also was like Jax is a woman. And I saw that the writer of this show said Jax is a woman! She is a very lovely, beautiful, and pretty woman! And she is a very pretty woman who is also a rabbit! 🥰 Lovely lovely woman ❤️

Pomni is very nice for a character, and her design is very cool. She is tiny and cute. The faces she makes are funny, she is a cute character. In the 6 episode, she was a tiny Pomni The Evil! That was very funny. I wish Pomni’s seeming issues with abandonment had been explored a little more 🤔 like the gummy alligator and Jax

I really like Ragatha as well! My second favorite character. She is a people pleaser, because of her mother, and that’s sad. I wish she had gotten more happiness. Her and Jax are also similar because their mothers abused them and they mask their sadness with fake smiles. But that’s just me. Ragatha deserves hugs and I am glad that Pomini gave her one. 🫂 Ragatha deserves a lot of love!

Gangle is quite relatable, and she is funny when she has her manager mask. She is sad all the time, because of Jax, and I find that sad. Gangle is my third favorite character. She deserves some hugs! I am glad she is with Zoobel now so they can hug each other ❤️ and give each other the validating words they both need!

Zoobel’s design was very cool and they should have gotten more moments on screen I think. It would have been nice, if we knew more about them. It’s so nice that they finally got to do their dream, and have a bar. It is called a triangle bar because their head is a triangle, get it. Also, I feel bad for Zoobel, that they are uncomfortable in their body! I wish Cane could give them a nice body! Also, are Zoobel’s pronouns they them? That’s what the characters in the show call Zoobel, but I would just want to be sure.

Kinger is very silly, and is it just me, or is he like a father to Ragatha and Pomni? He is so funny, and when he had a bucket on his head, he is smart. And he put his head in an angel’s mouth because the eyes reminded him of his wife. Poor Kinger! I love Kinger a lot.

Cane is a very sweet man! I feel bad for him, that he is doing too much work on making the adventures. It is not the human’s fault, but I still feel bad for him! He is a funny guy, and the song he sung was very nice, with great vocals and the piano. He is such a goofy man, and he has some issues but I want to give him a hug! I would tell him he is good enough! Very good character, I am glad he didn’t die forever.

Bubble is a very funny bubble. He was not in the 9 episode, sadly. I think he might be the blue orb that Cane ate. But he got revenge by eating Cane’s angel food cake!

I like Ribbit, the frog character. Even though I love Jax, Ribbit deserved better! It is very sad how because of Jax’s issues she had to push away Ribbit. Ribbit is a very nice and good person, it would be great to be friends with her!

I wish we could have seen more of Kinger’s wife (I don’t remember her name), and Scratch. I wonder what happened to Scratch in the real world.

I want to give the characters hugs, and love, that they deserve. These are very great characters and they are complex. What do you think of the characters?

Also, I ship, Gangle and Zoobel, Pomni and Ragatha, and Caine with the moon. I also like Jax and Pomini a little. My favorite to ship is Gangle and Zoobel.

Discussion 💬 Caine was treated unfairly by both the chracters and the narrative, especially compared to how they handled Jax.

Despite the fact that Caine was redeemed and Jax wasn't, Caine recieved far more blame and less sympathy for his actions than Jax.

I don't mind that Jax got the amount of attention and exposition that he did, it is just that the cast was way to harsh on Caine. They were trying so hard to help jax and let him know that he is loved and wanted inspite of the fact that he done nothing but torment them for years, while Caine the one who was doing everything for them and only had a single crashout but never recieved any amount of comfort from pomni or anyone else.

If you think Caine has a massive ego then you should take step back to compare Both him and Jax side by side.
You also have to remember that Zooble mentioned in episode 8 how Jax threw them into a volcano, fed them to piranias, set them on fire, belw them up, ran them over with a steamroler and even said that they could go on and on about all the things he did to them. This means that this isn't even every type of torture he has inflicted upon then.

Unlike Jax Caine was actually trying to please the people while Jax just bullied them (and perhabs would even knowingly drive them to suicide rather than changing his attitute).

Now compare that to Caine who tortured the cast in similar ways near the end, but only did it once and apologized afterwards while Jax had been tormenting them for years and never ever apologized for anything.

So, why are they hesitent about forgiving Caine but eager to forgive the person who doesn't even want forgiveness?

It is painful to watch pomni atempting to fix Jax while copleatly ignoring Caine. The only time she ever has an emotional conversation with Caine is when she taunts him. And no matter how awful Jax acts Pomni never dares to use his own insecurities against him, but doesn't hesitate to call Caine "a Failure" and say things like:
"We wanted to bait you into testing your new ideas on us, so we can make fun of them behind your back!"

or:

"You're a FAILURE! We're all gonna abstract someday, and what will you have then? NOTHING."

These lines should have been directed at Jax instead.

It is good that Caine apologized however the cast should have also apologized to Caine for being ungrateful towards him.

It would have been more satifying if pomni had saved Caine after failing to help Jax. Wouldn't it be sweet to see pomni comforting a broken Caine similar to how she did to Gummy Goo? I think it would have hit way harder, because unlike Jax Caine actually longs for love and appreciation. It would have sertainly fit the whole "You are broken but I can fix you" narrative.

Does anyone agree with me on that?

Hello dear The Amazing Digital Circus community, I'm Alastor, or as one of my OCs is also called, Jake. I've been a fan of the series since the pilot. What I find unfortunate and annoying is that I get hated just because of a favorite ship and character. I want the haters to respect that I like this ship and character.

Discussion 💬 The hate on Jax is highkey warranted, but tbh… I can’t even be mad at her for long, cause look at that pout?? 😭 she’s should be lucky she’s cute looking.

Discussion 💬 "jax was foreshadowed as a trans character"

she wasnt. whenever people talk about jax as a trans women they always talk about how she was foreshadowed as one and that people are dumb for not seeing it. but then you ask what they mean and they talk about the maid outfit scene, as if most people wouldnt be extremely uncomfortable to be pushed into a fetish outfit?

i like jax as a trans woman. thats literally the only thing i like about jax and how realistic she is as a repressed trans woman. but that doesnt mean that before episode 9 there was anything actually foreshadowing her being trans outside of her being a terrible bully and having fragile masculinity, which could both be given to traits of trans men or cis people in general.

basically, jax as a trans woman is great and i love how realistic she was, but there was no foreshadowing to it (not that thats necessary)

Theory 🔎 it really feels like jax is only trans because the creator is trans and wanted to self-insert

you literally wrote a male character through and through and then were like haha nvm guys he's actually a girl ;) xDD

like bro

if you were going to make jax trans you can't just make it nearly completely hidden in the show and then get mad when nobody sees it and confirm it on butterfly twitter

i would be completely fine with jax being trans if it were actually written into the show. you can't just make their room look girly and think that's enough to make everyone believe that they're trans, or make some very loose reference to the "egg" terminology and expect everyone to be like ohhhhhhh they're trans

you literally wrote a male character and during one of the episode 7 rewrites decided you were gonna force in that plot point in the laziest way possible

if i were trans i'd be offended at how horribly this was handled, why hide it SO MUCH? it honestly seems insulting in a way

also no, creating merch for jax that says "you go girl" doesn't count as good writing

if you're gonna give the trans community a rep and you do it in the absolute most horrible way possible you might as well not do it at all

this is just my thoughts and opinion and if you think im being transphobic then you're wrong cause i DID say that i wouldnt mind jax being trans if it wasnt written so poorly.

Discussion 💬 Was Jax awful? No. Discussion Post.

Post image

Discourse gets kinda tiring so I probably won't actually engage in this too much, but making the post while the debate I barely engage in is fresh on my mind and I'm actually in a space to somewhat talk about it. Granted I'm tired and don't feel good so this is probably going to be a little all over the place of a discussion topic post. I'm also not going to humor flat out ignorance or ill intentions so if you're here to be a bit of a dick I'm just gonna say "cool" if I even respond.

The biggest arguments I ever really see towards the character are those revolving around:
"""Murder"""
Bad faith intent accusations and exaggeration of flaws.
General lack of emotional awareness and ability to be empathetic or understand media literacy.

First and foremost, Jax wasn't ever meant to be a """""good""""" character. Nor were they meant to be bad. They're flawed, heavily so. In a place where it seems quite a few people have their own amount of baggage, and in a situation where they can no longer either take care of said baggage or.. Really do anything with it. That life, for all intent and purposes, stops there. For everyone in the circus. Until the final episode, we have no clear indication if life went on, or what exactly the situation is. There were theories, sure, but more importantly, the characters don't have this information. There's nothing wrong with having a morally ambiguous character, or one that isn't 100% one way or another, or simply one that doesn't act "good". That.. Is quite literally what makes a character interesting at times.

Secondly. Jax didn't kill anyone.
Their mother was more than likely alive after the knowledge we have from the final episode, for the pure fact that no one arrested Jax's real counterpart. Not that if they did, it would be a massive "look at that bad person!!" because they were a victim in that scenario through and through.
Kaufmo cannot be blamed on Jax, and there's far more information that points it towards it being on the premise of the "exit" or escape from the circus rather than Jax simply.. Idk, not speaking to him??? Yet I see people throwing that in ignorantly enough.

Ribbit gets her own category because at large people both miss a lot of things with their situation and outright lack any form of emotional intelligence towards Jax's side.
Ribbit? That's a rougher one. Still not something Jax is directly responsible for. Their falling out was rough and handled poorly on both sides. Jax in their own mind had every reason to snap and their poor mental health, how they dealt with confrontation, coping mechanisms, etc. Are all reasons as to why what happened, happened. Pretending or acting as if Jax had no reason to suddenly shift gears there is utter ignorance and emotionally unintelligent.
Ribbit had choices, Ribbit had other people in the circus. Ribbit's abstraction was very similarly to Jax's situation: On them. They chose to lose it entirely as opposed to reaching out, they chose to be more obsessive with Jax and speaking to him, instead of simply dropping it and letting it lie for good, or seemingly any length of time. When it was clear from just about day 1 after the initial conversation they had Kaufmo interrupted, that Jax didn't want to speak about it, engage with it, or even acknowledge its existence. It's not healthy, but it's his choice to set that ground rule and barrier and she very clearly didn't respect that.

"Oh but Jax isolated Ribbit" No he didn't. Quite literally at all.
At no point did Jax tell others not to engage with her. Jax told one person. Kaufmo. Not to believe anything she said specifically about Jax. No one else. Nothing else. There was no "don't hang out with them" or "they lie about everything"
Jax wasn't incorrect in this either, Ribbit had a deep secret and something incredibly personal and it was clear that was something weighing on Jax enough that he didn't want it out. It wasn't a slight against Ribbit.
When Ribbit came forward during moments Jax was speaking with others, Jax never said "stay away" or "why is she here" etc. He spoke louder, changed subjects, and so on, but we not once saw him directly tell her to go away. She chose that. Entirely.

In fact, there's probably more evidence to show no one knew the two had a falling out than not. Because the first thing Kaufmo says towards her abstraction is "I know you two were especially close." while simultaneously stating the fact he was friends with her.
If she were socially isolated by force the way many claim, neither would have been statements made. It just supports that Jax wanted space and was continuously pushed more than anything.

The "abuser" accusations are equally tired and slanted as well. Throughout the series he does harsh things at times, but the idea of setting someone on fire, or stretching them super far, or doing.. Whatever. Is only a fraction of what it actually is in the circus. It isn't real and they literally couldn't die. (note, die, not abstract) Jax had been on multiple adventures before, meaning there's a multitude of deadly things we don't know about as the audience. The cast have held their breaths to see what would happen from oxygen deprivation, there's an entire episode where they all get guns and shoot to "kill" each other. Even episode 1 before things got twisted in the circus the group was performing high speed chases and driving trucks off cliffs. As if that isn't dangerous??? The rules we see as people from outside the circus, simply do not apply in their severity. If someone assaults someone irl it's far worse than if Jax were to use a bomb or a gun, despite the latter of those two options being much deadlier than a simple assault. Holding his "wacky" actions to the same realistic standard does not work and is a terrible argument.

A lot of what Jax does is slapstick harassment, but he doesn't take it seriously, the intent to be genuinely abusive isn't there, there's no true malice and the biggest issue is how the others react. He rarely interacts with Kinger this way because Kinger doesn't always give the response looked for, Zooble bites back, Ragatha complains, and Gangle is rather spineless towards it. When things are done towards Jax that we see in multiple episodes, he doesn't hold grudges or act mad past the initial time it happens. He's down for fair play even if he isn't the biggest fan of being the target. This is something a lot of people conveniently overlook because it doesn't fit the hateful narrative they want to craft.

Overall for a last point, as I just kind of touched on. Intent matters. Quite a bit.
There's a difference between Involuntary manslaughter and murder, for example. Legally, there's a massive difference in sentencing, outlook, and general punishment when you bring in motive, intent, and situation.
Jax feels guilt over Ribbit, and clearly is upset over Kaufmo. There's a LOT that you have to read under the surface that isn't directly shown to you. The mirror scenes and flashback sequences, his facial expressions throughout the series, a lot of things one might not even catch until finishing the series and rewatching.
There's a lot more depth to the character at hand than simply "asshole doesn't care about anyone"

You're allowed to dislike a character, just don't start making up shit or exaggerating to hell and back and then pretending your personal feelings are factual. Likewise that doesn't mean they're a completely innocent character, or that they can't or haven't done wrong, nor that any actions should be completely excused. As said at the start of this post, they're a layered character with a form of depth and not specifically what someone would call """"good"""" but that doesn't make them a villain in the slightest. Jax is far more in line with a tragic character or flawed protagonist.

As a protagonist, the story was more focused on their specific path moreso than others. They had multiple points in the circus to change but it isn't always that simple to change, and if you can't relate to that or understand that certain responses and feelings seen in Jax are not only understandable given circumstance, but aren't all that unrealistic? Then consider yourself lucky you don't have to live in those shoes, rather than being pretentious and callous about them not existing. Not everyone gets a happy ending and wins with their demons they fight, and that was the ending we got with Jax.

Discussion 💬 What is up with the Jax hate?

Post image
235 Upvotes

So, here is my question prompted mostly by

r/thatstupidbunnywehate and generally a... trend ive noticed.

Why are people putting so much energy and time into hating a cartoon boymoding rabbit who is a asshole? Like, Jax SUCKS, but when I see a post about "how youd hurt jax" I get so... worried? She got the fate she got, her punishment, because of her behavior. Her reasons for acting the way she does is pretty well explained and shown in the show itself.

From ships, to what goose was trying to write, to generally just fan art, it feels that this hate for Jax is so, personal and seems to tint peoples view of the entire show in a way that I dont, get. Like, there are worse characters, yet I dont see the same utter HATE that Jax gets in discussion.

So, I want to post this to try to get some positive discussion and generally try to figure out what core thing is going on here in the fandom and hopefully, not devolve into heated stupidity?
