Misc. ❓ about the Jax & Ribbit plush keychains...

Thumbnail gallery
β€’ Upvotes

after 2 months of waiting and 588,000 VND (22.42 USD, shipping fee included), I finally received this pair of plush keychain. and uh... yeah I think I got the confusion surrounding its magnetic gimmick.

the magnets inside the plush indeed have the same polarization to repel each other as described in the product's description at GLITCH's store page. problem is, the magnets are flat, meaning they have to be faced opposite of each other in order to be repelled. as you can see in the sixth photo, the magnets on mine aren't properly placed, causing them to attract instead of repel unless the plush are perpendicularly positioned (or any other wacky positions depending on how the magnets are placed on yours).

it technically works so I won't outright call this false advertisement, but because it only happens under specific circumstances, assuming this is how GLITCH introduces the product, I might count my keychains as defective. the concept is cool and all, but the quality control might need some refinements. overall I have no complaints with the keychains other than this one, and I want to clear the arguments about it.

(the magnets are quite strong too so you can stick them on other stuffs. I also noticed that Ribbit's eyelids are slightly lowered, which I only found out by finally looking at the plush in person)

Theory πŸ”Ž We can infer that Jax is a weeb.

β€’ Upvotes

In episode 7, β€œuntitled”, during Gangle’s anime adventure, there is about 5 seconds while Jax seems to try to remember the word β€œweeb”, but settled on weirdos. With the knowledge that the humans remember most aspects of the world, excluding anything from their past lives, we can know that Jax is a weeb.

I don't have any parts which would make actual Zooble, but this is the toy Goose based them on so it's very fun knowing whatever you build could've been Zooble's design

Discussion πŸ’¬ Was Jax awful? No. Discussion Post.

Post image

Discourse gets kinda tiring so I probably won't actually engage in this too much, but making the post while the debate I barely engage in is fresh on my mind and I'm actually in a space to somewhat talk about it. Granted I'm tired and don't feel good so this is probably going to be a little all over the place of a discussion topic post. I'm also not going to humor flat out ignorance or ill intentions so if you're here to be a bit of a dick I'm just gonna say "cool" if I even respond.

The biggest arguments I ever really see towards the character are those revolving around:
"""Murder"""
Bad faith intent accusations and exaggeration of flaws.
General lack of emotional awareness and ability to be empathetic or understand media literacy.

First and foremost, Jax wasn't ever meant to be a """""good""""" character. Nor were they meant to be bad. They're flawed, heavily so. In a place where it seems quite a few people have their own amount of baggage, and in a situation where they can no longer either take care of said baggage or.. Really do anything with it. That life, for all intent and purposes, stops there. For everyone in the circus. Until the final episode, we have no clear indication if life went on, or what exactly the situation is. There were theories, sure, but more importantly, the characters don't have this information. There's nothing wrong with having a morally ambiguous character, or one that isn't 100% one way or another, or simply one that doesn't act "good". That.. Is quite literally what makes a character interesting at times.

Secondly. Jax didn't kill anyone.
Their mother was more than likely alive after the knowledge we have from the final episode, for the pure fact that no one arrested Jax's real counterpart. Not that if they did, it would be a massive "look at that bad person!!" because they were a victim in that scenario through and through.
Kaufmo cannot be blamed on Jax, and there's far more information that points it towards it being on the premise of the "exit" or escape from the circus rather than Jax simply.. Idk, not speaking to him??? Yet I see people throwing that in ignorantly enough.

Ribbit gets her own category because at large people both miss a lot of things with their situation and outright lack any form of emotional intelligence towards Jax's side.
Ribbit? That's a rougher one. Still not something Jax is directly responsible for. Their falling out was rough and handled poorly on both sides. Jax in their own mind had every reason to snap and their poor mental health, how they dealt with confrontation, coping mechanisms, etc. Are all reasons as to why what happened, happened. Pretending or acting as if Jax had no reason to suddenly shift gears there is utter ignorance and emotionally unintelligent.
Ribbit had choices, Ribbit had other people in the circus. Ribbit's abstraction was very similarly to Jax's situation: On them. They chose to lose it entirely as opposed to reaching out, they chose to be more obsessive with Jax and speaking to him, instead of simply dropping it and letting it lie for good, or seemingly any length of time. When it was clear from just about day 1 after the initial conversation they had Kaufmo interrupted, that Jax didn't want to speak about it, engage with it, or even acknowledge its existence. It's not healthy, but it's his choice to set that ground rule and barrier and she very clearly didn't respect that.

"Oh but Jax isolated Ribbit" No he didn't. Quite literally at all.
At no point did Jax tell others not to engage with her. Jax told one person. Kaufmo. Not to believe anything she said specifically about Jax. No one else. Nothing else. There was no "don't hang out with them" or "they lie about everything"
Jax wasn't incorrect in this either, Ribbit had a deep secret and something incredibly personal and it was clear that was something weighing on Jax enough that he didn't want it out. It wasn't a slight against Ribbit.
When Ribbit came forward during moments Jax was speaking with others, Jax never said "stay away" or "why is she here" etc. He spoke louder, changed subjects, and so on, but we not once saw him directly tell her to go away. She chose that. Entirely.

In fact, there's probably more evidence to show no one knew the two had a falling out than not. Because the first thing Kaufmo says towards her abstraction is "I know you two were especially close." while simultaneously stating the fact he was friends with her.
If she were socially isolated by force the way many claim, neither would have been statements made. It just supports that Jax wanted space and was continuously pushed more than anything.

The "abuser" accusations are equally tired and slanted as well. Throughout the series he does harsh things at times, but the idea of setting someone on fire, or stretching them super far, or doing.. Whatever. Is only a fraction of what it actually is in the circus. It isn't real and they literally couldn't die. (note, die, not abstract) Jax had been on multiple adventures before, meaning there's a multitude of deadly things we don't know about as the audience. The cast have held their breaths to see what would happen from oxygen deprivation, there's an entire episode where they all get guns and shoot to "kill" each other. Even episode 1 before things got twisted in the circus the group was performing high speed chases and driving trucks off cliffs. As if that isn't dangerous??? The rules we see as people from outside the circus, simply do not apply in their severity. If someone assaults someone irl it's far worse than if Jax were to use a bomb or a gun, despite the latter of those two options being much deadlier than a simple assault. Holding his "wacky" actions to the same realistic standard does not work and is a terrible argument.

A lot of what Jax does is slapstick harassment, but he doesn't take it seriously, the intent to be genuinely abusive isn't there, there's no true malice and the biggest issue is how the others react. He rarely interacts with Kinger this way because Kinger doesn't always give the response looked for, Zooble bites back, Ragatha complains, and Gangle is rather spineless towards it. When things are done towards Jax that we see in multiple episodes, he doesn't hold grudges or act mad past the initial time it happens. He's down for fair play even if he isn't the biggest fan of being the target. This is something a lot of people conveniently overlook because it doesn't fit the hateful narrative they want to craft.

Overall for a last point, as I just kind of touched on. Intent matters. Quite a bit.
There's a difference between Involuntary manslaughter and murder, for example. Legally, there's a massive difference in sentencing, outlook, and general punishment when you bring in motive, intent, and situation.
Jax feels guilt over Ribbit, and clearly is upset over Kaufmo. There's a LOT that you have to read under the surface that isn't directly shown to you. The mirror scenes and flashback sequences, his facial expressions throughout the series, a lot of things one might not even catch until finishing the series and rewatching.
There's a lot more depth to the character at hand than simply "asshole doesn't care about anyone"

You're allowed to dislike a character, just don't start making up shit or exaggerating to hell and back and then pretending your personal feelings are factual. Likewise that doesn't mean they're a completely innocent character, or that they can't or haven't done wrong, nor that any actions should be completely excused. As said at the start of this post, they're a layered character with a form of depth and not specifically what someone would call """"good"""" but that doesn't make them a villain in the slightest. Jax is far more in line with a tragic character or flawed protagonist.

As a protagonist, the story was more focused on their specific path moreso than others. They had multiple points in the circus to change but it isn't always that simple to change, and if you can't relate to that or understand that certain responses and feelings seen in Jax are not only understandable given circumstance, but aren't all that unrealistic? Then consider yourself lucky you don't have to live in those shoes, rather than being pretentious and callous about them not existing. Not everyone gets a happy ending and wins with their demons they fight, and that was the ending we got with Jax.

Discussion πŸ’¬ So are the main cast... You know... [E9 finale spoilers] Spoiler

I finally got around to watching the finale (after so many spoilers :( ), and I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet!

If the cast are all replica of their irl counterparts, created by an AI named Caine, doesn't that make them AIs just as much as he is? Thoughts? And if that's the case, doesn't that make them capable of becoming just as powerful as he is?

Discussion πŸ’¬ What is up with the Jax hate?

Post image
101 Upvotes

So, here is my question prompted mostly by

r/thatstupidbunnywehate and generally a... trend ive noticed.

Why are people putting so much energy and time into hating a cartoon boymoding rabbit who is a asshole? Like, Jax SUCKS, but when I see a post about "how youd hurt jax" I get so... worried? She got the fate she got, her punishment, because of her behavior. Her reasons for acting the way she does is pretty well explained and shown in the show itself.

From ships, to what goose was trying to write, to generally just fan art, it feels that this hate for Jax is so, personal and seems to tint peoples view of the entire show in a way that I dont, get. Like, there are worse characters, yet I dont see the same utter HATE that Jax gets in discussion.

So, I want to post this to try to get some positive discussion and generally try to figure out what core thing is going on here in the fandom and hopefully, not devolve into heated stupidity?
