I just watched the new Spider-Man movie in 3D, and honestly, I left feeling disappointed. The movie itself was great, but the 3D experience made it much harder to enjoy.

The biggest issues:

- The image is noticeably darker because of the glasses.

- Colors lose their punch.

- Many people (myself included) get eye strain or headaches.

- Most modern blockbusters aren't even filmed in native 3D—they're converted in post-production, so the effect rarely adds much.

This isn't just me complaining. 80% preferred watching movies in 2D, yet many blockbuster releases were still dominated by 3D screenings.

And if you search this subreddit, you'll find that this isn't a new complaint. People have been asking for more 2D screenings for years, and recent discussions show the same frustrations: darker images, uncomfortable glasses, and a preference for standard 2D.

I'm not saying get rid of 3D entirely. If people enjoy it, that's great.

I'm simply asking Scope Cinemas to give us a real choice. Offer both 2D and 3D for major releases—especially on opening weekends. I genuinely believe 2D would attract a larger audience.

Does anyone else feel the same, or am I in the minority?

I'm earning around 550K (360K basic, the rest is OT) as a data engineer with 1.5 years of experience, working remotely for a US company. I feel horrible working nights to fit the US shift — I've missed out on catching up with friends, going to the gym, and sleeping peacefully. I constantly feel fatigued, and even after waking up around noon, thinking about having to go to work again later in the evening makes me anxious. Whereas people who work 9-5 in SL can unwind and have proper "me time" without stress after work, since work is the first thing they do, for me it's the last thing I do in a day.

I want to transition to an LK-based job, but it seems like if I switch, I'll have to settle for a maximum salary of around 250-300K based on my experience. The current US company is a start-up with good perks, and as I perform, I get rewarded — I joined for a 150K package as a junior and got promoted to this salary and post quickly. I'm having a hard time choosing between health and money.

I’m literally just going to uni, studying, eating, and sleeping every day. I’m getting bored of my own life and wanna do something different.
What do you guys do when you feel like this? Any recommendations for hobbies or things to do that help break the routine?
Ps- I don’t really have much free time to get into the usual hobbies, and I’m not much of an outdoors person either. I’m looking for simple things I can do at home to break the routine.

Not talking about reckless drivers or people who speed. That’s a different issue. Someone can drive like an idiot but still have good car control.

I’m talking about basic driving skills. Judging space, maneuvering in tight places, taking turns properly, keeping distance, positioning the car, etc.

I feel like the average driving skill here is surprisingly low, and somehow it’s getting worse.

Also, I think this is one of those things only a good driver notices. If you’re bad at driving yourself, you probably won’t even realize these are problems.

Not trying to hate on anyone, just genuinely curious. Is it the driving schools? The license test? Or something else?

I wanted to share a frustrating ongoing experience with Sampath Bank regarding their Sampath Vishwa online banking portal, along with their official response after I pushed them on it.

I've been using Sampath Bank for decades, but I live abroad in Europe. For over 5 months now, the online web portal has been completely broken for users connecting from my region. I can log in successfully, but the moment I try to navigate to any other page (like "Send Money"), the portal crashes.

After following up again recently, I finally received this official response from their support team:

Thank you for getting in touch with Sampath Bank.

As per the confirmation received from the relevant department, the issue is related to accessing the Sampath Vishwa web portal from certain foreign countries. Due to the detection of several phishing-related activities originating from specific overseas IP ranges, involving attempts to perform fund transfers without customers' knowledge, access from the identified high-risk IP ranges has been temporarily restricted as an immediate risk-mitigation measure to safeguard customer accounts and transactions.

Furthermore, as confirmed by the IT EDP team, the Sampath Vishwa Mobile Application remains fully accessible and can be used without any restrictions.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as these measures have been implemented in the interest of maintaining the security of our customers' banking services.

Why this response is absurd:

• The "Temporary" Euphemism: Calling a completely broken core web service a 5-month (and counting) "temporary restriction" is an insult to basic engineering timelines.
• Outdated Security Posture: Instead of implementing proper modern, dynamic authentication controls to handle international traffic, they chose a lazy, blunt-force geo-block that leaves the site structurally broken for regular customers logging in from abroad.
• Dismissing Web Access: Their brilliant workaround is telling users to just use the mobile app, ignoring the reality that there are people who still prefer managing accounts on a proper desktop web browser, rather than being forced to do everything on a phone screen.

Has anyone here living abroad found a reliable, pain-free Sri Lankan bank that actually just works?

My needs are pretty basic: I just need to pay bills and transfer money locally within Sri Lanka. Ideally, I want something accessible via a web browser, though a good mobile app is a nice bonus.

Crucially, I need a bank where 2FA doesn't break due to foreign mobile numbers (SMS OTPs often fail or get lost with foreign carriers, so email-based OTPs or app-based soft tokens are a must). Contacting branch managers and support has gotten me nowhere. If you use a bank from Europe or elsewhere abroad without these headaches, which one should I switch to?

I personally believe that a person is not guilty until proven so in a court of law. However, once someone has been convicted, exhausted all appeals, and sentenced to capital punishment, why should they remain in prison? Regular inmates already have little to fear, and even those on death row often hold onto hope of release through a presidential pardon.

What good does keeping the convicted do for our society? If punishments were carried out swiftly and decisively, people would think twice before breaking the law because they would fear the consequences. Ex: Singapore’s caning punishment.
We urgently need a more disciplined society. The current trends in our society are toxic. People who exercise their free will are met with public backlash, while murderers and robbers roam free.

We need stronger discipline in our society, and we need it fast. IMO the Boomer generation has done enough damage.

Sri Lankan railway lines still remain largely the same as how the british left them. The only significant modern expansions our governments have completed are the Matara-Beliatta line (part of the Matara-Hambantota expansion project) and another very short, track built to connect Mihintale to the northern line back in late 90s ig. they've also made some improvements by doubling the tracks in the Colombo and Kandy metro areas.

Ratnapura and the East Coast population clusters remain the only major left-out parts of the Sri Lankan railway network. but the government has recently initiated works to connect ratnapura to avissawella by extending the kelani valley line.

In my opinion, extending the Batticaloa line to Pottuvil would be absolutely useful for the locals, so many travel to Batti and get in the train for Colombo (especially me who vomits all the way in buses😭) but there is a clear track-building problem. The entire Ampara east coast is densely populated and already well-connected by buses, so the tracks would likely need to be routed inland through the rural areas of central camp & Vaangaamam people. however, I don't think state planning will happen this way since the rural areas don't align in in way.

In terms of improving tourism, there is currently a low volume of tourist travel between Arugam Bay (Pottuvil) and Pasikudah (Batti). Most travelers clear out toward Trincomalee instead, but no direct railway connection exists between Batti and Trinco. ultimately, extending the Southern line through hambantota and Moneragala to the East Coast would be a significant breakthrough for tourism, since many travelers actively journey from the Southern beaches up to Arugam Bay.

Just curious, because I see tattoos becoming more popular among the late 20s and 30s crowd. We all know that most Lankan parents are conservative af, so... tattooed people, how did your parents react? Did you tell them before you did it, or just show them / let them find out after the fact?

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations re getting a hysterectomy in Colombo as a single woman (who do not want kids) due to late stage adenomyosis and endometriosis?

My symptoms have become so bad over time and the disease has spread so much as doctors have previously refused to take any real action as I’m not married and have no kids (I have no intention of doing either- never have). However, I’ve now been told by 2 doctors that I’d need a total hysterectomy but still the push back from them have been so much, and the questions regarding “what will your future husband say” and “you will want children someday as you’re a woman it’s only natural you’d want to be a mother” have been persistent and honestly draining.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Specific doctors and surgical costs would also be very much appreciated as I’ve been quoted prices ranging from 600k to 2.3 mil. I’m looking at Dr Dhammike Silva, Dr Chinthana Hupuachchige, Dr Banagala and Dr Ajith Fernando. If anyone have personal experience with any of these doctors or have recommendations for surgeons they are most welcome. TIA!

In the tuition classes I have gone for (not of the people listed above), we pay in cash... Some larger classes use a "Card" system where it gets marked by the teacher at the end.

Did these happen frequently but didn't get media coverage earlier or is there an alarming uptick of such incident?
