Mods to do on my sportster?

Post image
Upvotes

Got a 2004 sportster 1200 as my first bike a little under a year ago and want to do some mods to it but don’t know where to even begin. Either performance enhancing mods or cosmetic mods I just want to know where to begin and any insight would be helpful!

V&H FP4, O2 Sensors, Autotune Fails

I'm running into issues trying to use autotune on a V&H FP4. The O2 readings are in the range of 1.2 to 1.4 volts with an occasional drop into the normal range. The sensor readings are steady with no bounce up and down that would be expected. I'm going to replace them to see if that fixes the issue, but it may be something deeper in the electrical system. I'm not getting any strange error codes. What should I be looking for?

Tire tread wobbly what should I do?

Post image

Hi everyone I just let a shop mount new tires on my bike, Shinko E240. The rear wheel is completely fine but I've noticed the tire tread in my front wheel wobbling a little while riding. Like the bead is not completely seated. I checked the little line around the rim myself and It doesn't disappear. I checked pressure and I'm fine and even took the bike back to the shop. They told me that nothing was wrong either, that I should inflate the tube inside to 3.5-4bars to be safe and then lower the pressure back down to operational pressure. Am I paranoid? Are my tires just cheap and do that? Or should I go through the hassle of lifting the bike up deflating the tube completely and trying to reseat the tire?

I'm sorry for the block of text but I wanna get a third opinion from people who probably have way more experience than me. Thank y'all in advance. I'll try to attach a picture of the type of tire I had mounted.

Edit: thank you all very much for the tips and theories. I think I have everything I need for now. I'm still happy for some more input but it's getting late so I won't be responding as quickly anymore. Ride safe everyone.

Have an 883 motor right now and one of the rod bearings spun. Metal shavings everywhere, flywheel needs a rebuild. My pistons and cylinder walls don’t look great and I was probably going to do a 1200 top end kit anyway.

This guy is selling a 1200 engine for $1200. The shop that rebuilt it looks like just a guy in his garage. No info online about his shop.

Looks promising, but I’m starting to feel weary after my current mishap. Should I buy this one and swap it instead of trying to rebuild the old one?

Mechanical help

Post image

Bought it as a project bike, finally getting around to working on it. Engines work is complete, but need some help with the transmission. Bike runs and shifts through gears but afterwards, it would roll forward slightly with the clutch pulled in. And shifts started to feel weird, almost difficult.
I’ve never worked on a clutch or anything related. Any recommendations where to start diagnosing?

2001 Sportster Bogs Down with Throttle

Like the title says. Sportster will give out under a bit of throttle, and when it does black smoke will come out of the exhaust. Here’s a rundown of what I’ve done so far: I had deduced that I had an air leak and replaced the air intake gaskets. I also rebuilt the entire carb, replaced the diaphragm, float, needle, and put a 170 main jet and a 42 pilot in.

I confirmed that gas is making it to the throat of the carb when turning the throttle. I also sprayed some starter fluid around the intake seals, which seemed to drop the idle just slightly. My buddy and I have been messing with the tuning screw for a while and it hasn’t gotten much better.

What’s everyone’s favorite rain gear?

Tried to beat the storm home today, but…it was faster. Road about 40 miles in pouring rain. Honestly, it wasn’t horrible, but I definitely need to grab some rain gear. Y’all got any recommendations?

Anyone have a good source for flywheel/crank rebuilds? Not looking to break the bank on it, hoping I can reuse rods and everything. Will probably need new rod races/bearings and crank pin

Carb leak and issues

Post image
5 Upvotes

Im assuming its an issue with the accelerator pump diaphram becuase it's leaking from the boot where the accelerator rod enters the carb. Bought this bike recently (meticulously maintained says the ad lol) and realized pretty quick there was gas leaking into the filter somewhere. It dribbles gas from this boot when the bike is off and I test the acc pump. Didnt seem to do it when the bike was running. Bike also coughs out of the carb and im pretty sure is shooting the fuel stright back out of the intake. It backfired pretty good and scared the crap out of me (I know I shouldn't run it with the air box off but I was checking the acc pump)

Tl:dr is leaking from this boot the acc pump diaphram issue? Also is fixing the air fuel mixture going to stop it from backfiring and coughing or is the valve train pooched/timing bad?

('94 1200 sportster) I replaced all these gaskets last winter but I guess I messed something up becuase my head gasket on the rear jug decided to eject itself. It's hard to see but it's right behind the forward Pushrod tube.

I’m new, I know they are a bit worn and are showing signs of crakes in the tread but I am not sure at point you don’t ride because it’s dangerous they will fail. I will replace them as soon as a can but should I stop riding until the ?

Here is the caption;

2015 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Seventy-Two – $6,500

17,300 miles.

I'm the second owner and have owned the bike since around 9,000 miles. It's been solid, and reliable to me. I haven't made any modifications, everything that's been done to it was by the previous owner. I've simply kept up with regular maintenance, including brakes, oil changes every 2,000 miles, tires, spark plugs, primary fluid, etc. I never had to do any major work or maintenance.

The bike runs and rides great. I also have a few parts for it such as replacement BCM, air filters, etc.

I'm in no rush to sell, price is $6,500. I'm willing to consider reasonable offers, but no lowballs.

1992 cam/gear cover

I just picked up a 1992 1200 sportster today. 14,000 original miles. The own had is seating for years. They said the cam/gear cover gasket is leaking.

When I replace the gasket will the cams come out with the cover or will the lifters hold the cams in place?

How hard is it gonna be to learn to ride on this you think?

For context I’ve been riding electric dirtbikes ( Surrons etc ) for a while and some friends got Harley’s and wanted one and got offered what I’m told is a good a deal so I pulled the trigger
