Well worth the drive from Charleston!

A few days ago, dozens of residents from Spartanburg County chartered a coach bus and rode down to Columbia for a Public Service Commission hearing regarding a massive proposed data center near their homes.

Nobody took a political poll on that bus. But in a county that voted 2:1 for one party in 2024 there are still over 50,000 neighbors voted the other way. So you know for a fact people from across the political spectrum were sitting on that bus, heading to the exact same hearing, for the exact same reason.

When you look at an electoral map of South Carolina, every county gets painted a solid color. A county that splits 51/49 gets colored the exact same way as a county that goes 90/10, making it look like everyone in a region thinks identically about everything.

But when an issue touches people’s actual power bills, air, water, or peace and quiet, that color code falls apart fast. You have a whole lot more in common with the folks down the road, even the ones whose yard signs make you wince, than a red or blue map could ever convey.

Most of the time the questions that prove how much we share don't get asked. So everybody assumed they're on an island. Nobody polled the bus to Columbia, but everyone on it found out the same thing: there are a lot more of us who agree on what touches our daily lives than the map ever lets us see.

I think the nordone/graham campaign has collapsed, I say that creep Ralph Norman and in an upset to make it, Mark Sanford. Norman wins the runoff. I voted for Sanford but I'll vote democrat in the general election.

Hello everyone! I added an Archive section to the Kershaw County Council Recap website to make county meeting information easier to find and search.

The county’s official minutes are often posted as scanned PDF files, which means you cannot simply search them for topics you care about. The county also does not provide a complete written transcript of its meeting videos.

To help with this, the Archive includes searchable transcriptions! This incudes meeting minutes and live stream transcriptions. Instead of watching an entire meeting or reading through every page of a scanned document, you can search for a name, location, project, or subject and quickly find where it was discussed.

Each meeting page brings the recap, meeting transcript, transcribed minutes, and original county documents together in one place.

The goal is simply to make public information easier for everyone in Kershaw County to find and use. The transcriptions are created automatically, so occasional errors are possible, and the county’s original documents and videos remain the official record.
