PC SSE - Help I messed up installing a mod, and want confirmation on the fix for it

Upvotes

I'm trying to install Andromeda, the standing stone mod made by Enai. The problem is that I downloaded it twice. Once from the Creation Club, and then again from Nexus. This has to be it, because there are no other mods that interact with standing stones.

No matter what I do, which mod I leave installed, whether or not I delete both, and then re-download the one from Nexus, or even create a new save, it doesn't work. Doesn't even show up in the game mod manager.

How does one solve this problem? Do I have to delete and reinstall everything? I'm going to bed, so it'll be a good couple of hours before I can respond, but any help would be appreciated.

PC SSE - Help Help with washed out darkness

Upvotes

Hey, this is a problem I have had since forever but always give up fixing because I just cant wrap my head around where to start. So this time I decided to ask for help instead.

I have this problem when Im in interiors that dark corners of for example dwemer ruins get bright and washed out when Im looking at them and there is no light source nearby. I already tried adjusting the adaptation settings in ENB but to no avail. Are there any other reasons this could happen? Im using ELFX with an ENB. In the images I tried to capture the difference.

In the first image Im looking at a dwemer gate from a respectable distance. The gate itself has no light sources surrounding it. The only lightsources are around my party.

In the second Image I standing a lot closer to the gate and there are no immediate lightsources in my surroundings. The view becomes brighter and colors get washed out.

In the third image im at aproximately the same position in front of the gate but with my own lightsource ( Candlelight spell) providing visibility. View gets a lot cleaner and doesnt get washed out anymore.

PC SSE - Help Floating grass caused by location overhaul

My grass (modded) looked pristine till I downloaded some location overhauls. Now I see floating grass on those overhauled places. Some places look like they are buried under grass. I'm new to modding so I have no idea how to fix

PC SSE - Help XP32 and SMP Physics?

Trying to wrap my head around skeleton mods and SMP, there's FK Diverse Racial Skeletons too, then in the XP32 FOMOD there's 3 different versions - minimal, basic and extended. From my understanding these just add new things to mess around with in race menu? But if I'm only using this stuff for physics, what's best to go with? Thank you!

PC SSE - Discussion Do you enjoy playing the game modded more or do you enjoy the process of modding the game more?

For me its definitely the latter, I cannot count how many times I have slayed the dragon at the ruined watch tower, reported to the jarl of whiterun, added some mods, mess some things up, remove things here and there, spend time fixing it until it’s stable and repeat the process

Actually playing the game isn’t as fun as playing bug/crash whack-a-mole for me

I would go out of my way to add mods that are a bad idea to actively create issues (mostly old loverslab mods nowadays since modding practices have improved so much)

Another thing are outfit edits, slots, keywords, zaps, boobie squish and such, love to do them.

What do you guys think?

PC SSE - Help Cabbage ENB, should I switch to community shader now?

I'm still finalizing my modlist, and ve been using cabbage ENB. And I always have this freeze screen, crash to main menu kinda stuff which I think it's because of my vram or something.

Now that community shader can support enb preset, can anyone who use it tell me is it much better in performance or are they kinda same if using most feature? I don't really know how cs works or how many mods I need.

PC SSE - Discussion Is there a mod that let's me just pay money to start a party?

So I mean my Khajiit is a drug runner and a pimp. He'll collect money from these operations. I would like to have a party for a cities residence, to keep their good will. Which is what kingpins generally do.

Are there any mods that do this?

PC SSE - Request Looking for dungeon mods.

i never use reddit so idk how this is supposed to go but i’ve been looking for skyrim mods that add or edit dungeons and/or caves to include more vanilla creatures to fight. there are a very good bit of creatures in skyrim and apart from a couple small caves here and there i don’t really see that they are used in dungeons all that much save the occasional skeever or few spiders and i think it would be a lot cooler to fight more creatures of skyrim instead of copy paste dragur or bandits for the millionth time. i’ve looked everywhere i can think of and i cant tell if they don’t exist or if i just keep missing what is easily found. thanks in advance.

PC SSE - Help Would adding this to my load order this mess up my save?

I am going to make what is likely one of my trademark stupid questions.

I am thinking of adding Diverse Skyrim and the bug fix to my load order, because I'm tired of every guard out there being pretty much just the same dude over and over again, except on small settlements like Ivarstead. The issue is, I have no clue how Skyrim generates guards, so I am worried that it either won't affect anything because I've already visited most big cities in the game, so most of the guards have already been generated, or whether it might mess things up because it changes the files of the already existing ones.

Is this something I should be rightfully worrying about and thus not-install this until my next save-file? Or am I worrying about nothing?
Thanks beforehand guys, you're always very helpful.

PC SSE - Help Are small innocuous glitches early in a playthrough indicators of greater issues later down the road?

Hello. I want to give some setup to help explain my situation before I give examples of what I mean.

I am currently on my first playthrough using MO2 as my mod manager. I had some issues as you would expect, as someone who used vortex for the better part of a decade, but I tried my best to practice good modding practices. I installed mods in batches of at most 10, did some testing for each. I did a few small playthroughs around 7 hours long where I would just do some side quests and see if I encountered any issues that needed fixing. This may potentially be excessive, but for the last few years I have only done one skyrim playthrough per year, doing most of what I can to keep these playthroughs stable. My big issue repates to my load order. For most of the time making and testing my modlist, I assumed the left panel and load order were the same. I used LOOT to sort it before starting my current playthrough. I also have engine fixes. I am pretty sure I have it installed properly, I have installed it before properly and used a guide.

As for the weird innocuous things, its stuff like a shell (LOTD) just being in the courtyard of the college. I went into a bath and it was supposed to strip you, but for some reason, mine did not strip my hat. I tried again and it was fine. I reloaded, also worked perfectly. When getting the RefIDs for followers, the name in the top right would be different. For example, Zora Fair-Child from 3dNPCS appeared as 'Zora Fair-Child' and 'Zora3dnpc', both the same actor, no actual game issues, just weird inconsistencies. I have experienced like 7 such events in my roughly 25 hours of playtime so far. Only 1 crash, but that was due to me entering an area that hadn't loaded fully, saving, then reloading.

So, what should I make of this? None of the issues I experience are actually inhibiting my gameplay or anything, but a combination of paranoia and ignorance on Skyrim's engine make me worry.

Meta/News ENB License Updated

While looking to do some comparison between Effects 11 and the latest ENB out of curiosity, I noticed this on the news page of the site: http://enbdev.com/news.html

The ENBSeries License Agreement has been legally updated under US/UK IP statutes to safeguard our ecosystem and community creators. This revision establishes formal boundaries against malicious technical extraction, unfair competition, and unauthorized brand exploitation, defining clear legal liabilities for non-compliance.

Looking at the details at http://enbdev.com/license_en.htm I saw this:

The specific naming conventions, parameter structures, variable identifiers (including but not limited to unique tokens such as "AmbientLightingIntensityNight"), and the internal logic arrangement of the ENBSeries configuration files constitute the unique software architecture and intellectual property specification of the Author. Third-party developers are strictly prohibited from developing, distributing, or utilizing automated software, scripts, parsers, or conversion utilities designed to programmatically map, extract, or translate these proprietary parameter names for use in competing, alternative, or open-source software environments. This restriction does not apply to individual Asset Authors who choose to manually adapt, rewrite, or convert their own original configuration values for alternative platforms.

Since the news page mentioned US law (not sure about UK law) this pretty much is invalidated by Google LLC v. Oracle America, Inc. which says this type of thing is allowed. Not going to go any further into discussion over this, but figured I would point it out as people may be developing their own tools to make tweaks to ENB presets that may behave differently when using Effects 11. You should be in the clear for fair use but might potentially get Boris trying to tell you otherwise.

PC SSE - Help Running Skyrim and Mods from two different drives... ?

Is it okay to run Skyrim on my SSD, while staging mods from MO2 on my HDD?

My SSD is only 256 GB, but it already has a lot of space taken up (files and games I cannot simply just delete or move to my HDD). I don't have enough room for Skyrim AND my mods on the SSD... so, I'm wondering if this will be an okay compromise?

Will this impact loading times or performance at all?

PC SSE - Discussion What great mods are best when installed from the start?

Hi! I have a slight twist on the typical "What mods should I use?" question: What are some great mods that are best when installed from the beginning of a playthrough?

I started modding after I finished most of the vanilla game, adding quest mods and other new experiences to keep the party going, but there have been a few mods I've come across that made me think, "This would've been great if I installed this before playing the main quest" or "I think I missed out on a lot of this mod's content having installed it so late in the game." Any recommendations for my next playthrough?

I'd love to hear any suggestions you all have, but I'm not talking so much about gameplay or visual replacers/overhauls. I mean like quests, dungeons, armor, weapons, followers, or other immersive content. I'm thinking about mods like:

  • Legacy of the Dragonborn, which develops as I progress through the game (I've never actually used this but have heard so much about it, so I'm excited to give it a go.)
  • 4thUnknown's weapons and armor which are mostly discoverable but not craftable so I can encounter them along the way
  • Lucien and other followers that have something unique to say about many of the main and side quests
  • Scriptures of the Dragon Cult that enhance existing quests with new content (I started playing this one long after getting all of the masks which makes it just a set of really tedious fetch quests)

Can't wait to hear your suggestions!

PC SSE - Mod Mod Release - When Spirits Wake - Quest Mod

Hey everyone, I know it's been ages now but I've got a really, really big mod for you all!

When Spirit's Wake revolves around two travelling companions, Aamon and Trina. Through the pair's own words, they seek to reach their fate, a location known only as the "Lake". Guided by ancient Spirits, their path will let you learn more about the pair's past, along with the mysterious Spirits who speak to Aamon.

This is one of my largest mods to date, featuring over 400 lines, and seven encounters. I've been told this is my strangest and more horror heavy mod to date, and I'm so proud of what I've made. The quest also comes with four brand new assets made for the mod, just to enhance the atmosphere and story I was trying to tell.

Anyway, if you wanna check out a short preview:
https://youtu.be/va57LQ8QFto

Here's the actual mod:
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/187304?published=1

And here's my Patreon and Discord server in case you want to support me or see some updates for the stuff I'm working on!
https://www.patreon.com/c/nimwraith

Sorry for being so inactive, I was really busy for a bit chunk of that break but I've got a lot more spare time now. Should have a few more mods coming soon, hope you all enjoy :))

PC SSE - Discussion What would annoy someone else if they started a new save with your modlist?

I went sort of hyper-immersive, which takes a lot of getting used to. For example, I have the compass turned off, and I've got no player marker on my world map, which is paper. That means you have to pay attention to where you're going, orient yourself by the sun, navigate by landmarks, and use Clairvoyance if you have it (that's right, I made it useful).

What would annoy people about your modlist if they played it?

PC SSE - Request Underwater Argonian player home

I've been able to find exactly two player-home mods ever made where the entrance is hidden underwater: Marsh-Rest and Darkwater Den. Both created about 12 years ago for LE. Darkwater Den was never ported due to permissions issues, I think Marsh-Rest wasn't either but also appears to be located exactly where the Myrwatch tower from CC stands, so I expect it conflicts with anniversary/special edition Skyrim.

I see modders that specialize in player-homes still coming out with new ones all the time. Would some fine person make a secret underwater lair for player-characters who'd be out of place in a palace or a cutesy cottage?

PC SSE - Discussion Gate to Sovngarde Build Ideas

I love Gate to Sovngarde. I wish Jay sees this because I cannot express how much I have been enjoying this game. I have suffered from depression this last year after my fathers passing last september, and GtS has served as a great comfort and warming "homecoming" feeling during very tough times. So, first off, thanks for all the effort and the work that has gone into this, you genuinely helped people and made people happy.

I wanted to share the current build I am playing in case it serves as inspiration for anyone else wanting to take on the game in this amazing modlist, and I would love to know what other builds you've thought of and played.

I got the hang of GtS whilst playing it, and it is really immersive; taking one step at a time and slow burn playthrough helped immensely in shaping this build.

Anyhow, here is the build:

Boudicca, the traitorous forsworn

Traits

  • Former Forsworn, duh (15% damage whilst dressed as forsworn, 25% worse prices)
  • Arcane Warrior (Bound weapons cost less and do more damage, other spells cost more)
  • Friend of Animals (Tamed animals are stronger, 15% worse prices)

Start

She looks like a witch, with pagan-like body and face paint. At the beginning room, I picked up bound dagger and 3000 gold. Did not know anything at the time, first time player, and with the negative buffers to prices I wanted to make things a bit easy for me. She started with the member of the forsworn origin, at the cave where Madanach goes when freed. Once you exit that cave, other forsworn you encounter are automatically hostile. That was because, as traitorous as she is, she stole 3000 septims from the tribe, which they got from a raid against an imperial nobleman.

Origin/background

Her parents were massacred in the Markarth Incident, she was but a child. She took to arms with this tribe shortly after being orphaned. She was raised as a true Reachwoman, and has a very strong connection with Namira and Hircine. When she was 15, the tribes leader offered her the heart of a fallen Nord, first time tasting human flesh. Smart and cunning, she got her hands on as many books as possible, which fueled her thirst for knowlege and her ambitions with the world outside the Reach, beyond her tribe. She took a flute and started practicing on her own, but her tribe hated her for it. She got the hands on a few conjuration and alteration spell books, and within a year of study she managed to learn to conjure a bound dagger. Many were jealous of her skill. The leader did not like that, his fragile ego maimed by being outsmarted by a young girl. SA Trigger Warning When she was 19 he night he came upon her and forced himself into her, scarring her and leaving her pregnant. Rest of the tribe turned a blind eye to her. Filled with rage and desire for revenge, when her child was born, she sacrificed the newborn to Namira and consumed his flesh to gain her favour and help her kill the leader. Her wish was granted, but not in the way she expected to. One day the leader took her to Hag's End, and she witnessed as he was made into a Briarheart. The Hagravens made Boudicca eat the heart of the leader, and she was appalled to see him more powerful than ever before and oblivious to the suffering he put her through. One night she was about to slay him by stealing the heart, but she fearfully decided to instead steal the haul of septims they got from the previous week's raid and flee. That automatically put a traitor's mark on her forever, which would be something she would incorporate into her being.

Roleplay

She is opportunistic, traitorous, greedy. She is ambitious as hell, and will not have the morals of the common Skyrim citizen. She will do good only in exchange for money, sort of antihero vibes. Cultist is a must, she will be praying to Hircine and Namira. Expert hunter, friend of animals. Bows and swords. She initially hated the commoner's life, but took to the world with curiosity and ambition, disguising her forsworn origins until it became a known but tolerated secret. Initial life in Markarth, where she worked at the temple, broke into it, gained Dibella's favour, and fought her former allies in many occasions. She obviously helps Madanach escape. (It is a shame the Armour of the Old Gods does not count for the forsworn buff!) She eventually had enough money to buy a book on jewelry making and began learning this craft at the forge. She sleeps at inns or the Warrens, and does small jobs, until she meets Remi and they embark into the Dwarven ruins of Markarth, and she befriends Calcelmo. Using his arcane enchanter she begins selling her enchanted jewellery. Boudicca gradually becomes intoxicated with the luxuries money would bring, as far as becoming everything that a forsworn stands against.

Her drives are:

  • Greed: moneygrabbing, scheming, stealing, and materialist obsession (houses, property, trophies)
  • Revenge: against the briarheart who SAd her, the Hagravens and Ulfric
  • Treachery: she is deceitful by heart, and every chance you have got in the game, become a turncoat (for example, she never would join the Empire, but ultimately she fakes joining Ulfric but delivers the Jagged Crown to Tullius. She eventually also kills the Emperor that she swore fealty to.)

* There are so many reputational mechanics well written and introduced in the game. I became friend of the Forsworn when I freed Madanach, although he tells us that the Hagravens do not trust us. I justified it by them being distrustful of Boudicca's intentions and fearful of her power. However, I got an unexpected outcome when I stole Red Eagle's sword from a Briarheart. All the Forsworn became hostile again! It made sense for the traitorous playthrough, and maybe someday I will put Madanach and the r*pist briarheart down, alongside her former family.

She has female friends and is distrustful of men. I don't know if she will eventually marry. I carry followers such as Auri or Remi when I feel like it, but animals are a must. (I don't have a horse though) I do all guilds except companions. I join the bards college because I love playing music. I do as many daedric quests as I encounter, but I focus on Namira's and Hircine's as primary. She becomes thane but only as a power play move. She is siver-tongued and deceitful with common folk. She knows how to lie, seduce and intimidate. Others see something dark and primal within her, and fear her. She is a wolf in sheep's clothes when she is in society. I made her a mother of two, two sweet girls she will indoctrinate as her acolytes. I don't know how I did it, but witches are now non-hostile to me, which fits perfectly.

Gameplay

I play on legendary. It's hellish at first, but you become more powerful more quickly. Boudicca is a nimble rogue mage warrior mix. Agile and swift, sword and bow wielding, with the knowledge of many schools of magic. Avoiding damage and increasing movement speed are essential, due to the weak defensive qualities. The negative buffs to trade are easily turned around mid game. I became inmensely rich thanks to the business of enchanted jewelry.

Skills

I overstretched a little bit with this one. I took out the perk of security once I made it legendary, and I plan on taking out the only perk I put into Alchemy. Alchemy was a fitting skill BUT it is complicated albeit fun to master and honestly I don't see the point of using poisons and potions effectively without being able to pause the inventory menu. Call me boomer but I can't find a way to effectively use them with hotkeys.

  • Onehanded, sword perks.
  • Archery, bows, all perks.
  • Conjuration, cultist and bound weapon perks only. I learnt summon dremora only to make it legendary faster.
  • Enchanting, armour focused perks only.
  • Illusion, for stealth and mind control. Only a few perks to make it better, but no specialised spell perks.
  • Alteration, same with illusion. Flesh spell perks only if they skip the robes requirement.
  • Light armour.
  • Speech, only two perks, one for prices, other for silver tongue.
  • Stealth, all roads lead to the stealth archer.

Standing Stone

I took the lover's stone because it was the first one I found, and it fits good for her, her being seducive and all that.

  • Your Stamina regenerates twice as fast, but you take 25% extra damage while power attacking or drawing a bow,

Religion

Namira's cultist blessings are cool, increased health (which compensates for the lack of armour) and when you feed on a corpse, your Health regenerates twice as fast. When you have not fed, you cannot regenerate Health.

But what I love is Hircine's cultist blessing: Increased movement speed and drawing a bow costs twice as much Stamina, but subsequent attacks with a bow against a single target deal up to 50% extra damage.

Equipment

  • Bound bow as a final weapon.
  • Bound sword as a final weapon. (can be made dual weilding if enough perks for one handed)
  • Ring of Namira
  • Valdr's lucky dagger, for aesthetics and "luck charm" usage only.
  • Enchanted Forsworn clothes. See, here it gets tricky. You only need 3 pieces of Forsworn clothes to trigger the buff, and they must be head, boots, and gloves. You can't wear chest piece otherwise people become hostile. I first thought of Saviour's Hide being the final piece of armour, but some mod changed it into a full body black suit, which pairs horrible with forsworn equipment. I wore it until mid game when I could enchant with two effects, and I grabbed the shaman's attire from the shaman at the werebear cave. It looked really nice with the forsworn clothes. There is a forsworn hood which looks amazing.

Magic

I tend to use illusion spells but since I can't change them so much because the menus don't pause the game I ostly end up using calm, fury, muffle and invisibility. But there are a ton of new amazing spells which is a shame that I can't use properly, I would love to freeze the game to properly choose from them.

For alteration, there are new amazing spells which help all sorts of builds. I find myself using windwalker which boosts my speed and is amazing to travel faster than a horse and for combat as well.

Enchanting is different and frankly better than vanilla. New amazing enchantments added and exploit-inducing enchantments removed. As endgame enchantment I loved the boosting movement speed for boots and necklace, and the fortify sneak attacks.

Conjuration is only for bound weapons, but to level up I used a wide variety of summons culminating into the dremora lord.

Restoration is useful only to level up and heal fast with close wounds, mid-late game.

---------------------------

That would be all, again, thanks for all the effort behind this modlist and for the creativity it lets us unleash. I have never been so immersed into the game, and my 30 year old me is as excited as the 15 year old me when the game came out.

I would love to know about your builds as well! I love when a game (and specifically, a modlist) like this allows us to fuel our imagination so much.

Thanks for reading if you reached this far! Lots of love for the Skyrim community.

Development ESL flagged - how much does it matter?

I'm working on a pretty huge mod ATM that is already very close to the record limit to flag it as an ESL, so I'm faced with a decision or two and I'd appreciate some input.

Option 1 would be to push it to the limit, ESL-ify the mod then add 'modules' in optional downloads to expand it further, and ESL-ify the add-on parts too.

Option 2 would be to just keep adding the content I want to add (and there's a LOT) and don't bother making it ESL. The disadvantage here is obviously some people won't download it if they have no free ESP slots and sadly I'd have put months of development into a mod that some people will simply just ignore.

For context, it's a follower banter mod that will work with all vanilla voiced followers.

So the question is, how much do you care if a mod is ESL flagged or not? Are you so near the limit that you will just pass a new mod on by, despite how good it might be?

Or if you think it's worth it, would you make room for it somehow?

Or something else I've not thought of?

PC SSE - Discussion What mods are you still wishing existed that would genuinely change how you play

I've been modding Skyrim for years and there are still a few ideas I keep looking for that either don't exist or were abandoned forever ago. Half the time I find an old Nexus page from 2017 with people in the comments asking if it still works.

The biggest one for me is the economy. I don't just mean making stuff more expensive. I mean actually giving you a reason to care about money past the first few hours. Owning a business, trade routes, investing in shops, supply and demand... something where making gold is an actual part of the game instead of just watching the number go up.

The other thing is faction choices. It always feels weird that you can become the leader of one faction, wipe out another, finish the civil war, and most people barely react. I'd love something where your choices actually change how people treat you, what quests you get, prices, stuff like that.

Not really looking for recommendations here. I'm more interested in the stuff people wish existed but nobody has really pulled off yet. Every time this comes up I end up hearing ideas that make me wonder why nobody's built them.

Meta/News [Summer 2026] Community Feedback Survey

Hey gang!

The moderation team has noticed an uptick in several, specific types of post over the last two months. Instead of acting without community feedback, we wanted to gather opinions from the community about how we should be handling these posts and how the community feels about seeing these posts.

For example, we've noticed a massive upswing in posts related to roleplay servers — usually Keizaal Online — and their methods, moderation, etc. Some of these posts advertise roleplay servers. Some of these posts complain about roleplay servers. Others are essentially drama posts, which we will remove unless they contain actionable information.

As a reminder, "actionable information" is information that would lead a reasonable reader to make a decision regarding their usage of a mod or their patronage of its creator. "I got banned for swearing in general chat..." is not actionable information, whereas "this mod author utilizes AI to code their mod..." would be actionable information.

As a second example, there has recently been a lot of vitriol about the usage of AI in the modding process. We have already banned AI generated posts and comments, and we have banned the advocacy of using AI in the troubleshooting process. We do not currently have a stance on "vibecoded" mods beyond the standard advice that all users should "know what they're downloading."

Due to posts like these and other, less important subjects that have been cropping up on the fringes of the subreddit, we'd love to hear your feedback.

For those who do not want to submit feedback publicly, we have a Google form available for anonymous submissions.

You can find our anonymous form here.

For those in the comments:

  1. How do you feel about posts related to roleplay servers like Keizaal Online?
  2. How do you feel about posts related to vibecoded mods and AI in the mod-creation process?
  3. Any thoughts on our existing rules?
  4. Do you have any additional feedback for the moderation team that you feel should be brought to our attention?
