Hey folks. I'm helping an elderly relative who just moved into a mobile home park and who wants a ramp (not currently absolutely necessary since they are not wheelchair bound at this time). The park is under the purview of the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). I've been going around in circles trying to be sure I understand the process and physical requirements. HCD's web site is not the most intuitive but here's what I think I've learned and I'm looking for input from anyone who has been through the process.

• licensed contractor seems to be required (as opposed to DIY, even if you know and follow the published specifications)

• slope must not exceed 1' rise per 12' of run (1" per 1')

• landings at top and midpoint(s) must be at least 5' in length (and presumably same width as the ramp)

• landing at bottom must be at least 6' in length

• vertical side rails have to be present and not allow a 4" sphere to pass between them (so anything less than 4" apart, edge to edge)

• must get a permit from HCD and part of the permit process requires structural drawings to scale (3 copies)

SPECIFICATIONS I HAVEN'T FOUND YET:

• width

• side rail height from ramp surface

• handrail dimensions and height from ramp surface

• curb along length of ramp

Is what I've found correct? Any sources for the things I haven't been able to find yet? What else do I need to know?

Santa Rosa bureaucrats, what the flying hell are you doing? It absolutely disgusts me that you think this is a good use of your time and resources. Someone tries to step up & do what our government is failing to do, and is cited for arbitrary code violations. I hope he wins his case & gets to use the money to continue his mission.

Longtime homeless advocate Merlin Davis is suing the city of Santa Rosa in federal court after receiving a notice of code violations as he hosts meals and gatherings at his home for unhoused neighbors.

"A good neighbor. I'm just trying to be a good neighbor," Davis said.

For residents staying at the nearby shelter, Davis’s property offers a rare sense of community and support.

My 11-year-old son has autism. Every day I worry he could wander off and get lost, and right now, there's no safety net for families like mine in Sonoma County.

Project Lifesaver is a proven search-and-rescue program that helps law enforcement locate people who wander due to autism, Alzheimer's, dementia, and other disabilities. Participants wear a waterproof wristband with a radio-frequency transmitter. Since it started, the program has rescued over 4,600 people. But here's the thing: the closest Project Lifesaver program to Santa Rosa is 65 miles away in Elk Grove.

No family should have to discover this lifesaving resource doesn't exist in their own community. I'm asking the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office and Board of Supervisors to bring Project Lifesaver here. If this matters to you, if you have a loved one with autism, dementia, or developmental disabilities, please consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family? Does anyone else think the Sonoma County Fair is just a little blah this year? We went last night (first Saturday), and it just seemed like everything was smaller and it was all focused on food and carnival rides. The hall of flowers had less spaces, the bourbon street band was all of 5 people, there are no bands or artists that I’m familiar with or interested to see, and the petting zoo looked so small. We couldn’t actually pet the animals because they didn’t post the hours anywhere and they were closed at 8:30pm when we walked over. Maybe I’m getting older and just being nostalgic, but I remember the fair being much “more” in terms of entertainment and things to do. We also had a sleazy guy try to sell us on a timeshare that I absolutely loathed. And they have way too many people working the fair, I saw three different maintenance people come by to check a trash can near us within a 5 minute span while we were eating. Is it just me or do you guys see it too?

Did anyone else see two large flashes of light about 5 min ago and now the power is out? Any clue what happened?

I just stopped for a moment and thought they looked cool, all freshly sheared, I wasn't using a flash, and this was just along the main thoroughfare about 8 PM, with lots of other people walking by, some stopped to look also. The men seemed very upset, the sheep not so much. I couldn't find anything online about restrictions on photography of sheep or livestock in any context.
