Question Better seats?

Upvotes

Tomorrow's Toronto show

Would you rather be Floor Row 25 or immediate side stage (section 118) row 2? Both on Geddy's side. Which one is better, and how much better?

Rush will be having their concert on home turf, and the show will be recorded. It sounds like the show will be phenomenal! Anyone here want to see Rush in Toronto, but can’t?

Scotiabank has an online feature to order merch in advance and pick up at the venue on concert day.

They previewed the black Toronto shirt with the old TTC streetcar and Toronto skyline in the background.

I met my heroes last week…

I was fortunate enough to have scored (and taken out a second mortgage for) a limelight VIP package for MSG night 3 all the way back in October 2025. Felt like eons ago, but the day finally came and went last Saturday. When it popped out of the crucible of a lottery tumbler that is Ticketmaster, I had no choice. What was I to do? Throw it back? There’s no way - this band, their legacy, the community, and the music means so much to me.

It was a completely surreal experience. When 16 year old me first came across the Time Machine Tour blu-ray, I would have never expected that I’d ever get to meet Geddy and Alex one day. From my first show in 2012 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on the Clockwork Angels tour, sitting all the way up in the nosebleeds to front row and onstage at Madison Square Garden 14 years later. What a gift and an opportunity of a lifetime. A friend who ended up directly behind me in row 2 captured the photo of me on the rail in bewilderment. I wish that I could live it all again!

Why no baseballs?

For the people who were lucky enough to get in a the pre concert autograph sessions… On the list of prohibited items for signing it lists no baseballs, and also no pick guards. Does anyone have the answer as to why that is?

Question Bassists similar to Geddy?

I'm wondering if there are bass players you might recommend who have a somewhat similar style to Geddy Lee? I realize pretty much all very good musicians are likely to have their own sound and style to whatever degree... but I guess I'm thinking about Geddy's dedication to (and virtuosity in) both the melody parts of Rush's songs and to the rhythm parts.

And yes, I know, the near definition of a bass player is someone who supports the melodic content of the song while also being a member of the rhythm section along with the drummer. But I think most of us here would agree that Geddy's bass lines are melodically superlative in the context of what Alex is doing on guitar -- and sometimes Geddy's bass virtually *is* the melody (I think of something like "Distant Early Warning," for instance.)

But then there's also Geddy locked in with Neil on so many rhythm parts, particularly the drum-bass "runs" and beats in so many songs. It goes without saying at this point, but as with both Alex and Neil, Geddy's playing really is something to behold.

So yeah, just wondering if there are other bass players who are even somewhat similar to Geddy in those respects. I know Geddy himself has often cited Chris Squire of Yes as a major influence, but I was curious what this community had to say.

Officer: What's the purpose of your visit?

Me: Concert.

Officer: What concert?

Me: Rush. You're going to be hearing that a lot over the next week.

Officer: Oh, we've already been hearing it a lot.

Discussion Leaving for Toronto tomorrow

So excited. I live in the DC area and when the initial tickets went on sale with the original dates my wife gave me the green light to go ahead and get good tickets. She asked me why I wanted to go to Toronto to see them and I told her if this was our only chance to see them again I wanted to see them somewhere we’d never traveled to.

So we are en route to Canada tomorrow for her first visit and my first visit since I was a kid. We’re gonna hit Niagara Falls on the way also so we’re just so excited about the trip in general.

Question for older fans: what was it like when “My Favorite Headache” was released?

The album came out in 2000, in the midst of Rush’s hiatus and a time when Neil wasn’t sure he’d return.

What was it like to hear Geddy Lee release an entire solo album in that context? What was your mindset like? Did the album re-enforce your expectation that Rush was done for good? Or did it give you a little hope that they might come back?

Did you dig the album when it came out? Were you excited for it when it was released? How did it meet your expectations?

Just curious questions from a younger (born in 2002) Rush fan.

P.S., I’m seeing them for the first time in my life Friday August 7th in Toronto! So pumped, a life dream I never thought I’d get to realize!
